What's your favorite Christmas themed video game?

And why is it Twisted Metal for the Playstation 1?

I bet you forgot that game was Christmas themed, didn't you!

Toejam and Earl on Sega Genesis is another great one that you don't typically think of as a Christmas game, but Santa is in it and he gives you presents so it must be Christmas.

  • ^Oddly enough, the first thing I thought of was TJ&E.

NIGHTS on the Saturn is another definite one. "Dusty Diamond Zone" from Sonic 3D Blast always did it for me, too (especially the OST).
  • I always loved Freezeezy Peak (too lazy to double check the name) from Banjo Kazooie. The Christmas lights part, the giant snowman scarves, ahh...due for a replay of that one, I think.
  • Oddly enough I only play scary games for Halloween, but do not play xmas themed games for Chistmas. Huh... I wonder why that is. Maybe I will start playing some this year based off of what people comment on.
  • Nights christmas i guess. All the ones on wii and ds suck terribly.

But since die hard and home alone are "Christmas movies" to most people, then i am going with Home Alone for Sega Genesis. Its not the LJN crapola!
  • One that most probably don't think of is Blue Stinger for the Dreamcast. There's a part of the game where you're going through this shopping area and it just happens to be Christmas time! I love it and while in the shopping areas you hear this:

  • I cant think of a game, but there are a lot of stages and snow levels in games that have a xmas feel to them that I like.
  • Well, my favorite full-on Christmas themed game is Nightmare Before Xmas. But if all's that's required is a cameo appearance by Jolly ol' Saint Nick, I'd have to give it to Secret of Mana.
  • Gex 3 (playstation) had a Christmas themed level. You even battle with ole Kris Kringle himself!

Also, Twisted Metal 3's North pole level let you blow up Santa's house, and even use it as a special weapon.
  • I find this to be a difficult question. I think I'll rank them as follows:

    1. 8-Bit Xmas 2010

    2. 8-Bit Xmas 2016

    3. We Wish You a Merry Christmas (game most capable of putting you in the holiday spirit)

Christmas NiGHTS might be on the list if I could play it. Videos seem cool, but I don't have a Saturn.
  • Christmas NiGHTS. I always thought NiGHTS was pretty cool but add CHRISTMAS to it and it's just epic. Cheery music, presents to unlock, snow, what a great game.

I can't think of tons of others (8-bit Xmas, Home Alone, Die Hard?). I remember Elf Bowling was big for a minute, but that was terrible.
  • Home Alone on Genesis is one of my favorite games that I never figured out how to play right. The music, the graphics, the different designs for each house. It's all so perfect. I don't care that I lose every time.

I had no idea there was a Nightmare Before Christmas game.

  • Die Hard Trilogy  (it's 2/3 Christmas)

Oh man, I used to love that game.  Totally forgot about it.  What system was that on?  I just remember renting it a lot as a kid.

Genesis is the most well know, but I think there was a SNES port as well.

Edit: Actually, it was ported to just about everything except NES.

  • I'm seeing Super James Pond for SNES and a port of James Pond 2 on PS1. It could have been either one, I dunno.
  • Let's not forget Daze Before Christmas!

Super James Pond is the SNES version of James Pond 2.

  • Cool, it's really cheap on ebay so I might pick that up. I love playing games from my childhood that I've forgotten about.

Best of luck. I too had fond memories of renting this exact game back when I was a kid. Played it as an adult and it kinda lost it's appeal/mystique. I was kinda bummed about it. I hope you're able to return to it and enjoy it, though!
  • Thanks, if I do end up bidding on it I'll post back with my thoughts.
  • King of Kings - Wisdom Tree

Other than the same pack-in pretty much everyone had as a kid (SMB/DH), I only had two games on my original NES: King of Kings, Super Mario Bros 3. Both were Christmas presents but only one had a Christmas-theme.
  • Yeah, I'd be interested to hear. Another game that got me like that was Uniracers. Anyway, since then I've tried to temper my expectations for games that I remember playing only as a kid, lol

"Full-on Christmas themed?" Isn't there at least a little bit of Halloween mixed in there?

What's wrong with Uniracers? I love that one.

And isn't the Wise Men game the only one actually set around Christmas?

  • I bought Uniracers a while back (never played it as a kid) and I did not enjoy it at all. I just remember not finding it that enjoyable. And I think I could beat the times already on the cart. Was there a way to delete saved data on that one?

Yes, but most games listed here only have a Christmas-themed level or area while this had an entire Christmas-themed game and the label art was a manger scene. It plays a rendition of "We, Three Kings" incessantly, in that game mode but somehow I still liked the music.
