Wii U games - Play or Pass? Star Fox, Mario Maker, Terraria

Just wondering what some of your opinons are of some of these Wii U games. Looking at Star Fox Zero, Super Mario Maker and Terraria. Also curious which if any have good local co-op play (the lady and I co-op play when we can).

Thanks for any input.

  • Mario Maker is a no brainer. Star Fox was actually fun 2 player, but overall a disappointment unless you can find it cheap IMO. Never played Terraria.
  • Mario Maker is amazing in my opinion. You should check out the NA topic on it as there are lots of videos and stuff showing some of the levels. If you like Mario there is basically no end to that game. Some people have a hard time getting into it for that exact reason though.

Star Fox is also pretty good but I agree with starwind on the price drop. If you can get it cheaper or used I'd pick it up.
  • Thanks for the input guys, I haven't researched any of these really so it helps. We have some kohls cash to use before it expires and seen they had some overpriced wii u games I dont have yet.

Also, holy shit, I had no idea there is 155 wii u games...dammmmmnn!
  • Not sure about Mario maker or star fox, but terraria is awesome, if it's anything like the Xbox 360 port, then it has good local co op

People think that it's just a 2d Minecraft but when you get into the game it's very different
  • Terraria is great. You have a large world to explore with varying environments. It is a lot of fun exploring through large underground caves/caverns/dungeons, digging for minerals and finding treasure chests with items. You can craft a lot of objects for your house, tools, weapons, and armor. NPCs end up joining you if you build rooms for them. They are useful because they can sell items or have services for you. As you get better equipment, you can begin hunting down the different enemy bosses. Defeating the bosses will enable you to progress farther by enabling you to new events and minerals/items to utilize. There is a wide variety of monsters that attack you when you are out in the wild. It's fun to tear them down and collect money and occasionally items they drop. There is a lot of customization such as decorating a house you build, or making clothes, and many more. This game is especially fun when playing with friends. I played it on 360 with 2 other friends so I am unfamiliar with the split screen gameplay. The game is a lot of fun and on top of that, I really enjoy the soundtrack. I think it fits perfectly for this type of game. Give it a shot, I think you'll enjoy it. There is actually a lot of depth to it.

Nice review.  I may have to give this one a try now.

  • Mario Maker = One, if not "the" best game on the Wii U

Star Fox - No idea, never played it

Terraria - No idea, never played it
  • I only wish they had made a Zelda Maker of some sort. Maybe they'll save that for the Switch...

I feel like that would be way to hard to make and also way too complicated for people to use. The great thing about Mario maker is that it's simple. You can make one level at a time or 10 at a time. But If they made a Zelda maker it would require a lot of time just to make one dungeon.
  • Though not really a coop game I also highly recommend Mario Kart 8. My GF and I play it for hours and hours and its fun racing against other players online together or if you have 2 friends come over to race with four people locally.
  • Mario Maker is incredible.

Never played Starfox and don't intend to.

Terraria is a great game, but is better played with a Keyboard/Mouse. It'll run on virtually any windows PC. the first time I ever played it near the time it came out, it ran on 10 year old hardware perfectly.
  • Mario Maker is an awwesome game, spent many many hours creating and playing levels.

StarFox is also a great game, but it takes some time to get used to the control. After some tries you get the typical StarFox feeling you know from the SNES- and N64-titel, with hidden paths and secret levels and some very nice boss fights.

Yep Same here, So far its my favorite for the system and it gets lots of play by us. We burned out on playing it, gave it a month break, came back and got hooked again.

Well, Thanks for the input everyone. Ended up ordering Mario Maker and Terraria. Looking forward to playing both

Im hoping they add a mario kart level editor on switch in similar style to mario maker! They did a level editor for smash! Come on Nintendo!

Hope you enjoy the games! Mario maker is alot of fun! If you want an epic rpg get Xenoblade X! If you want more fun platformers and dont own Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze or Yoshi's Wooly World they are all alot of fun and can be played multiplayer!
  • Star Fox was disappointing but not terrible. There's nothing really *wrong* with the game, but it feels just "meh". Like they could've done so much more with the game but didn't. Star Fox Guard is fun but really more of a minigame. The motion controls in Star Fox Zero isn't even what bothers me. The lackluster level design, lack of charm, polish and overall content are probably what turned me off of the game. I got it when it came out, played the entire game in one weekend and have Zero desire to touch the game again. But like I said, it's not a bad game, maybe it's just not for me.

Super Mario Maker is another disappointing game to me. But a lot of people seem to love it. If you love playing custom levels and making your own, you'll love it. I thought I'd love it but I find level making very tedious and time consuming, and I never come up with anything good and I consider myself a creative type person. Playing custom levels other people make is a mixed bag. SOmetimes I come across some really really good levels, but I'd say 90% of the time the levels people make are either too hard, too easy, or are one of those dreaded "self propelled" levels which I hate.

I have no experience with Terraria but it doesn't interest me in the slightest. It looks like a 2D Minecraft, which I also dislike. So take that as you will.
