Almost lost a sibling last night in a car accident.

So last night my Mom texted me letting me know my sister had been in a car accident.

She attempted to pass a truck on a 2 lane highway road but realised there was another vehicle ahead of that one and the car behind her wasn't letting her back in. She turned into the gravel to avoid a head on collision and ended up flipping the car 6 times, was partially ejected via the passanger side window and was pinned under her car until they were able to get her out.

Luckily she is alive and has no serious injuries (I have no idea how).

Just wanted to post this to send a message out to everyone to remember to drive safe, speeding and driving carelessly to get somewhere 5 minutes quicker is never worth anyones life.

  • Glad she's safe. That must have been scary as sh1t.

One of the benefits of getting older (for most people) is being more patient and taking less risks. I can't believe some of the things I used to do back when I was in my late teens / early 20s.
  • Glad to hear she is ok and that no one was seriously hurt.

Was she wearing a seatbelt? A lot of people have a nasty habit of not using one. Everyone should wear a seatbelt.
  • Wow, glad to hear she's okay. She's gonna need some pushing to probably get driving again, I know I did when a cherry picker truck (on of those ones that work on power lines) ran a red light and T-Boned me, the state blamed me since I was only 16 but whatever.

Gotta remember every time you get in the car you're driving a weapon that's a lot more deadly than a gun.
  • Glad to hear that she is unharmed. Must have been scary.
  • Yikes Toxie...sure glad things are ok
  • Glad she's okay Toxie. Do you know if anyone in the other vehicles around her when it all happened stopped to call 911/help?
  • Glad she wasn't seriously hurt!
  • So glad she's okay. Warm wishes to everyone and their family during the holiday season. Give out lots of hugs, you never know what happens tomorrow.

Thanks everyone, it was honestly very scary and I don't know how I could have dealt with it ontop of everything that has happened recently.

Brandon, yes there was a woman who stopped and got her cell phone, called my parents and 911...she also stayed with her until someone arrived.

  • Sorry to hear about that Toxie! Glad she is ok!
  • That is insane. So incredibly lucky that she doesn't have any serious injuries. Still a terrifying experience, but glad everything is relatively ok.
  • Glad to hear she's ok. I actually lost a highschool friend a couple years ago in a car accident in icy conditions. What's it like in Chatham right now? Any snow yet?

No snow yet man but it has been pretty damn cold, it was expected to snow today but didn't get around to it.

  • Good to hear she's alright Mang, just keep counting your blessings and I'll keep ya'll in thought.
  • Glad she's alright
  • I'm glad she'll be alright. As a new(er) driver I see my friends doing stupid things while driving all the time. I'm that one guy that drives slow for no reason though   I go like 5 under the speed limit at any given time. I like to drive in unison with car (a mini-van from the 90s).

    Truer words cannot be spoken.

Like everyone else, I'm so glad to hear she got out of this mess fine. Sometimes you learn life most valuable lessons the hard way, but she got lucky and it is so awesome that she's okay.
  • Holy shit.

I do a lot of driving and there are tons of angry drivers on the road folks just need to chill out and relax. I try not to succumb to things like road rage, or inpatients. But at some point we all done something reckless. Your sister is very lucky, I glad she okay.
  • Glad she's ok. Hope she gets better fast
  • Glad she's safe.I lost my brother in 2007 in cars accident . Drive safe everyone
  • Glad everything's ok. I've seen some of the worst sights from car accidents. Taking a few feel breaths could help save a life.
  • If I read the original post correctly you said someone blocked her from moving back into the correct lane when she couldn't make the pass? That is totally illegal. Hanging someone out to dry to try to prove a point and causing an accident equates to some form of negligence in the least. If someone attempts to pass you in the on-coming lane on a 2-lane road and you speed up to block them, then you are actually in the wrong and not them. I hope everyone involved stopped so that person can be charged.
  • Glad to hear she's alright, brother! Hope all is well and she recovers quickly. Driving is no joke.

Also incredibly dumb on their part. They could have easily ended up as part of the accident too.
  • Glad she is safe mang. Scary stuff!

We actually need to go through a 4-day lesson about safe driving to get a license here in Switzerland where they talk about stuff like that.

Dude, really? You can dodge a car if you see it coming for you, you can't dodge a bullet, nor will a car enter a building and shoot 40+ people in a matter of minutes, resulting in death. Sure, the death numbers are higher in many states for vehicle related deaths (not in 21 states as of 2016), but that's because more people own vehicles than guns. We're talking about a device meant for killing a target vs a device meant for safe travel.

The only time someone is going to die with a vehicle is when the operator isn't operating the vehicle properly, or a safety malfunction happens (loss of brakes, wheel falling off/axle/tie-rod issues, etc), and of course, weather conditions.

Maybe you meant a BB gun, though?

Toxie, I'm glad your sister is okay. I can't imagine getting that kind of a call.
  • Shit that's scary - really glad your sister came out of that relatively unscathed.
  • That sounds terrifying! It's a miracle she came out without any serious injuries, definitely seems like it was a real close call.
  • Thanks again everybody, I still really can't believe she made it out of that the way she did.

    Just thankful as all hell.
  • Holy eff.

    Glad she's okay, man.

Props to you for being strong enough to make this post and help others realize the safety and care needed when driving. Especially with winter here/coming.
