Let's talk ball. Basketball that is.

I've seen some mlb and nfl talk, how about basketball? Any fans?

  • The NBA has been one of my longest passions in life, I've been a regular viewer and basketball player for over a quarter century now, and passionately studied the 40 NBA years I missed. It's amazing to me where the league is these days. I think it was just last Wednesday that the entire pregame discussion on ESPN was about getting rid of marijuana testing and rules in the NBA, and all four commentators were for it. I really can't believe we are where we are at this point. Sometimes I just need to pinch myself...

If this years Finals is anything but Golden State vs Cleveland, something really drastic has happened between now and June short of an epic meltdown. I mean, both of those teams have a guy who has scored more than 30 points in a quarter, and they aren't even the best player on their teams!!! That is just unreal.
  • I have been a Bucks fan my whole life; so, not a lot of cheer about. Although, things are looking up with new owners, new arena, etc coming to town. Jason Kidd needs to go, though. Hopefully, the Bucks will be relevant by the time LBJ retires/moves to the West.
  • Lots to be excited about as a bucks fan!

antetokounmpo is a monster and if they can get a draft pick and a prospect for Monroe (in assuming he's gonna get traded) they'll be an up and coming team.

Even down by 25 at the half last night vs the raps they didn't give up, got it within 10 (before losing by 25 but still)

Jason kid was a god send for that squad! Why don't you like him?
  • Rockets are killing it this year. What a pickup eric gordon has been. Also since Beverley came back after missing the first 10 games rockets have only lost 2 games. He is playing great this year. Def the glue guy now. Ryan Anderson has been solid as well. But he has had cold spells with scoring. Him and gordon are exactly what harden needed though. They can hit 3s better than the rockets have had in years. Dont have josh smith, terrence jones, ty lawson brick fest this year. Its been great. I think the rockets now are at an NBA record 23rd straight games of 10 3s or more made?

This demise with D'Antoni was exaggerated

He has been such an improvement over Mchale and Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff was just soooo bad. Actually run inbounds plays? Who knew you could? Actually call timeouts before the other team has all the momentum and your losing? I thought that was against the rules last year haha
  • Those black Rockets jerseys are probably my new favorite uniform for this year

They are sweet, and the rockets have played great in them. I wish theyd just wear them every game with only the mcdonalds jersey they no longer wear as the alternate
  • It's funny how a certain uniform can really transform a team, I always thought

that the Utah Jazz felt like a totally different team when they would wear these

So far for me my biggest prediction to come true is all the problems with the New York Knicks. I knew a few people that thought they would really click but I thought they would have a pretty bumpy go. It is sad to see the decline of Joakim Noah I will say. Along with Derrick Rose, 5-6 years ago you could not find a more passionate and exciting player in the league.

Most amazing Rockets game I've seen this year was the one against the Nuggets at Denver coming off a win over Golden State the night before, AM flight, and they come out and put up like 40 points in the 1st quarter making it look like a track meet....that was really crazy.
  • I am an OKC fan. I also hope GSW has a space jam thing where durant and curry suddenly lose all their talent...
  • I'm rooting for okc in the wake of the durrant bs. Plus Westbrook is league MVP period. (Maybe harden)

Speaking of harden, Rockets w the beard running the point have looked like a new team. I laughed when I first heard that was the plan, harden can dish the rock? Who knew?

Nyk arnt going to far but def better then last year. Porzingis is the future for such, such a diverse skill set.

I predicted the Celtic not being the contender they where made out to be. When I saw si predict they would finish 2nd in the east I laughed, hortfords great and all but come on. I think they had the raps in 3rd or 4th with 45 wins lol. Those guys love to hate on the raps. Derozen has proved he's a top 25 player too to spite them having him at 46. (I did love the little digs they made at him through out the issue tho, jokes)

  • I also thought that Celtics prediction was too lofty. Celtics are in trouble so far, they have not had a single significant win this entire season. The only close games they have won have been against non-playoff teams. They've folded away to all the good teams so far. Without Isaiah Thomas they would be in 76ers territory right now. 4 of next 5 on the road. Only positive is that this next game with the Spurs is the last one of the season so the Celtics got them out of the way early

Harden always dished the rock. Nobody made any shots. Always stunted his assists.

Westbrook imo isnt the mvp. His stats are easy to explain via his NBA record pace usage rate. He triple double hunts. Steals away rebounds from his bigs. He is a one of a kind player and is super aggressive, but he tries too much. He takes 24 shot attempts a game, along with a league high 10.7 Free throw attempts per game which is over doing it imo. He has people capable around him. Last game they played the rockets, he just took some simply horrific shots. Harden is not a great 3 point shooter at all, but westbrook is pitiful from 3 for how much he chucks them up. Not saying harden is the mvp right now either. Have to see where the teams finish. But if you are just looking at triple double disparity its a shame. Harden has many games this year where he would have had one barring 1-2 rebounds. So I think the stat in itself is rather overrated.

  • Those sleeping on the Celtics are sorely mistaken. Horford has missed at least 9 games so far, Smart, Crowder, and Bradley have missed games and now IT has missed a game or 2. And even through all of that, they're still above .500 and in good position. Once they can catch a healthy streak, they pile up the wins.

I'm still picking the C's to take the 2 seed in the East
  • And you know this man.....diehard nba fan. Of course pistons are my guys, love stan van and the job he has done. Great young team.

Ill watch anyone though, memphis is a fav also they have 2 former spartans love zbo

Here is a game i just played with one of my good friends while watching some ball. See who can get the most names correct of the top ten all time scorers. Guess 10 names . I only got 7, list eill suprise u

How brutal for it was you watching horford miss that point blank layup to lose to houston at the buzzer. Rockets stole that one after falling asleep in the second half. Or I should say harden stole that one. Caught fire at the last second.

well it changed this year I know with lebron jumping hakeem

  • Lifelong sixers fan. Loved watching Dr. J, Moses. sir Charles and AI. Though I haven't watched any NBA in years (up until this year). I've totally bought into the process! Embiid, Simmons, jah, Noel and probably another top pick next year should make us good (at last exciting for years to come

reminded me of Patrick Ewing's infamous miss, lol. It sucked, but it was only a regular season game against a non conference team at the end of the day. They'll be alright.
  • Pistons were my team in the east too pre raptors era. Bad boys.

76ers have a future if they can leverage somebody with exp. The process is looking good though I agree, still missing a lot of pieces before contention is a reality.

I hear you that celtics have had some injury troubles but who dosnt? The raps will have to drop off big time to give the celtics a shot. And remember, raps lost sullinger (there only off season pickup and guy who was susposed to fill the pf position that they're so weak at) before the season even began.
  • Speaking of falling off though- remember how many mavs fans there were when those cats were a championship team? Lol. I can't wait for a decade from now when all the "I've been a gsw fan since like forever" crowd all jump off that ship.
  • I love NBA basketball. No team in Missouri where I grew up and currently live, so my preferences have changed here and there. I typically like the teams that are great or are on the cusp of it, but don't get their fair share of the overall conversation. This year that team is the Clippers. Ups and downs, including a big down last week getting destroyed by golden state on espn. It baffled me that they didn't show up at all for that game, but when they do, I believe they can beat anyone. See the absolute beatdown they put on the Cavs in Cleveland the week (or two) before on TNT. I am not saying they beat GS in a seven game series, but they will take them to game 7 and don't be shocked if they send the team of destiny home.

I spent seven years in Michigan and loved the Pistons. Right around when I moved, the makeup changed entirely and I lost interest. Rasheed Wallace's pistons jersey is still my favorite jersey that I own. When I lived in DC, I fell in love with the Wizards. When I got to DC, two things were clear - DC hated me and DC hated the wizards. When I said I liked watching the wizards, DC residents would tell me the they are happy someone finally showed up who can watch that team. I watched the team the city hated win in spite of it and it was inspiring to me personally as I tried to win in spite of DC's distaste for me as well. I went to a Heat/Wizards game and the "home crowd" were all rooting for lebron, who I love, but thats embarassing. The same season, they made the playoffs for the first time in forever, and the whole city suddenly loved them. I still have a soft spot for the wiz, but not the same way I did when the team and I shared the bond of being the biggest outcasts in DC.
  • Knicks are looking good.
  • Im a TWolves fan going on 20 years now. this team isn't winning yet, but they will figure it out soon.
  • Im retro when it comes to Basketball too, Jordan,Pippen,Magic,Bird,Stockton etc.

They looked good last night in an impressive comeback win over the Bulls. They have the talent, they just need to learn how to become more consistent.
  • Twolves have one of the brightest futures in basketball. Aslong as theyre not mismanaged.

Townes is a huge asset. Wiggins and Levine are both gonna develop into superstars.

They're def my fav underdog team. Can't wait for the days of twolves playoff runs.
  • I normally watch a ton of Basketball, this year I really haven't and I'm not sure I will.

When the player you follow starts to be to disruptive over politics, I start to not watch or follow them anymore.

  • Just wanted to post this amazing Larry Bird mixtape the NBA put out a few days ago. This stuff never stops putting me in awe.To this day I still think that Magic Johnson was very generous to coin Michael Jordan the greatest player of all time as early as he did (he was already saying it by the late 80s) I still think there is a genuine argument that either Larry Bird or Magic Johnson is the greatest basketball player of all time (and I LOVE Michael Jordan)

Oh man that is great.  I love nba to this day but those that missed the 80s got the shaft.  So many great intense playoff battles especially the eastern conference.

Yeah they each did things that the other two couldn't/didn't do, and that just about nobody before or after them has been able to replicate. They were 3 very different players and then world was incredibly lucky that all three of them, as well as a slew of other amazing players, all came into the league in the same 5 year period.
