Alan Thicke has passed away
News outlets are reporting that Alan Thicke passed away today due to a heart attack while playing hockey. For people who grew up in the 80s, he was the TV Dad Jason Seaver on Growing Pains (he also wrote the show's theme song.) I used to watch this show all the time when it was being aired and in syndication.

At least it was doing something awesome and something he probably loved.
I just watched him on fuller house last night and was explaining to my fiance who he was. That is awful.....

I just watched that last night and I was thinking about how I haven't seen him in years. Pretty weird.

yeah last time I saw him in anything was how I met your mother years ago.

I watched that episode a couple nights ago.
Sadly, on my drive home, I heard him hocking some random company on the radio. Lest we forget he was a bit of a sellout, especially in the later years...
RIP though, he popped up in so many places that I'm sure to have those "aha!" moments for years to come.
RIP mang.
Well he died in the most Canadian way possible at least.
LOL I was waiting for someone to say it

Chugged a bottle of maple syrup before he got on the ice, traded a couple hockey cards and then had a heart attack because he accidently traded away his Gretzky rookie card.
In all seriousness though.....RIP, anyone dying is shitty, especially when you accidently traded away your Gretzky rookie card.
Where had you heard he died playing hockey?!? It was tennis.

Actually I apologize, he was playing ice hockey with his son when he collapsed. I had heard he died playing tennis but it just turned out he was at a charity tennis tournament last month and "seemed" to be in great health.
69 years old is no spring chicken though. These days when I go to the basketball court with my Dad, we never play in games, nothing more than light shootarounds anymore.
I actually think of him best for the Crystal Light Dance Competitions....that was a great episode of tosh.0!

He made regular appearances on How I Met Your Mother. When I saw him pop up in Fuller House, I was like "weird seeing him in the show" then thought "hm, wonder what he's been up to since his cameos..."
While his acting (at least in the US) doesn't really extend much past some made for TV Disney movies and Growing Pains, he was more of the behind the scenes guy (he wrote the original tune for Wheel of Fortunate, and also the theme for Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life). Genuinely seemed like a nice fella too, sad he passed (while not young by any means, 70 isn't really that old these days. Hell, Trump is that age, as well as Hillary, and neither of them appear to be old and falling apart)

Credibility obliterated indeed
Oh no! After I just watched him in a cross-cameo(?) appearance (Growing Pains was also an ABC show and he was called "Mike" in that episode too...so does that count?) in a Fuller House episode! Wonderful show for Full House fans like myself BTW.
He was Jason on Growing Pains; Mike was Kirk Cameron (DJ on Full House's real life brother).
