Parents never had to worry about me looking to see what I got for Christmas or my Birthday. I liked the surprise and I knew my parents worked hard to get me the gifts, so I didn't want to disappoint them.
That thing was a beast at the time. I remember seeing it in the catalog and being like "Woah, it runs on batteries? What the heck is this thing?"
Cool! That's actually an updated version. I had the older one where the ground-level base would open and extend a receptacle to receive the transported load (turned a crank). I recall that the train had a cool wire piece to connect the 9v battery to the motor just by snapping bricks.
I have never opened a present, but I have found presents before. One time I went looking for presents early and found a bean bag chair, I thought that it was for my bro, but it turns out it was for me!
No I never did, but I do remember one time before Christmas, shopping with my Dad and he made me leave the store so he could buy a Christmas present. Then we came back in to do our normal shopping and I noticed this was no longer on the shelf.
I had spotted it on the shelf when we were in there the first time and I was pretty exciting about it. I couldn't help but assume he had nabbed it. Come Christmas time, the Lego set never came. Come to find out, my Dad hadn't intended on grabbing that, but he did notice that it was gone when we came back in, and he laughed and said something like, "You thought you were gonna get that shark Lego set, didn't you?"
That's because I got it that year hahaha. I can't remember what year but I did actually get that for christmas

Even though it was released in 1996, or has a 1996 copyright date, I swear that was Christmas of 1995, I definitely remember it being a totally new set I had not seen yet. Maybe it was 1996 though.
Yep, when I was 7 years old I opened up a present, thinking it was the Bon Jovi, Bad Medicine tape. Indeed, it was that tape, I listened to it for a few days and then tried to wrap it back up the best I could. Needless to say, I was totally busted when my mom saw the present under the tree.
I snooped around and checked out my presents before they were wrapped when I was 11 or 12. Definitely ruined the surprise those years and I haven't peeked since.
I did it once and felt guilty. Never again. I still occasionally give some presents the shakes.
Nowadays, gifts are spoiled by getting shit in the mail that my gf ordered for me or family and either the sender's address gives it away, or worse, the company has a sticker with description of contents that I can't unsee.
I never peeked at Christmas presents but a few days before Christmas at my grandparents house, my grandma told me to follow her to one of the closets. She opened it a bit and inside one of the bags was this box peaking out of it:
Man was I excited! I pretended to be suprised when she gave me the present on Christmas day. Put on a nice show for everyone who watched me unwrap it. All while my grandma smirked in the background.

I've done everything else though, shake, poke, prod, etc and that's helped me on occasion.

Same here, I did it one year, felt guilty, and haven't done it since. Don't know what made me do it. Guess I was just at that rebellious age.
