  • Antibodies. Antibodies are the best thing for a cold. Too bad it isn't as simple as popping some antibodies.   Get well soon, OP.
  • Got a cold? - Here take an Emergen-c, Sniffly nose? - Here's an Emergen-C, Felling Feverish? - Take another Emergen-C, Broke your arm? - EMERGEN-C

    Emergen-C for the win!

*These findings are not evaluated by any PhD, although highly endorsed by me, myself and I.

There's your problem. You need to have it evaluated by an MD. A PhD is too busy reading Tolstoy and making anti-Trump FB messages.
  • I second Allegra D and some form of real pseudophedrine (requires ID and going to the pharmacy counter). As it's been said before, rest and water are more important than any OTC drugs.

OTC cold medicine only treat symptoms and help prevent re-infection while your body does the real work on the bacteria or virus. Only antibiotics and anti-virus medicine targets the cause of the symptoms.

Don't waste your money on this stuff unless you're a fan of the placebo effect and overloading your kidneys and liver with useless vitamins. Taking vitamins over the daily allowance also takes water out of your body to move the waste into urine.
  • So you think Allegra or any other form of OTC meds are better than a simple dose of vitamins and water? Haha

that stuff is good I have to admit

Actually I was reading that this is only useful when you feel the cold is starting. After that it doesn't really do much (if you're congested it's because it's swollen in your nose and sinuses, not because it's clogged).

My kids' pediatrician told us that using these things and netti pots increases the amount of salt in your bloodstream and that it should not be used more than once every day. I have some troubles believing this though as the amount of salt that would be absored, even if there is a small layer left in your sinuses, would be lower than what you get in a regular meal, so some info coming from the medical community may be a bunch of bullshit too.

I wouldn't worry so much about that as I would the type of water used.
