How badly can Capcom screw up Mega Man on iOS/Android?

  • I can't believe how far down Crapcom has slid this decade. As for when they quit on Legends 3 after all that promo/hype (didn't Nintendo Power give it an 8-10 page article or something?), to paraphrase a former governor, Crapcom would never make it as a Navy Seal or a Frogman, because in BUDS training, if you say the words "I quit", you're gone! Crapcom made us long time Legends fans so excited and pumped up, now they made a major committment. But then, just like they did with MegaMan Anniversary Collection Advance, when the going gets a little too tough, they quit!? Frankly I don't even care when Crapcom makes any kind of announcement, there's no point, because they're liable to QUIT!! Maybe they should be called Quittercom

Case in point-- they really don't give a crap what people have to say it seems. Just look at the YT comments... they're disabled. The like/dislike bar doesn't lie about what's going on though.

You should see Capcom Mobile's Twitter account this morning. You've never seen such venom in your life, the staff at Capcom are probably all hiding under their desks right now. Vicious backlash.

I'm reading through the twitter now.

Haha, there's some pretty great stuff here. Tough day at the office for some folks at Capcom. But really, they didn't play test it or get some feedback? Seems insane to think they'd let that through. Haha... I'm laughing a little bit, but it seems so illogical from a business perspective.

So Quazonk, the games are as bad as the trailer looks?

Man, they're so bad that I actually feel like an asshole right now thinking of ways to tell you how bad these games are. I can't say one good thing about them, and there are just no words to properly convey how shitty they are unless you play for yourself, which I don't recommend at all, even for "I've gotta try it if it's that bad" purposes. The controls are worse than a mess, the frame rate is actually much slower on my iPhone 7 Plus than it appears in the trailer. There is just absolutely no reason to play or even try this. It's a true insult to Mega Man fans.

Oh wow... That suonds horrendous. I'm laughing at the thought at how bad they are. Not that it's funny people paid money for them, but funny at how bad a company could fuck something like this up.

I don't buy any mobole games... what if a game's terrible and you complain about it? Does anyone ever give refunds if the games are glitchy? I mean... obviously a ton of games are shitty and it's just a cash grab so I imagine there's no reprecussions for the game developers.

Even your recomendation to NOT play because they're so bad has me intrigued, haha. Intrigued to maybe download a demo??? Haha, shit...

Too bad, though. Mega Man on NES is so awesome, 1-6 don't deserve this type of treatment.

But alas, this is the EXACT reason I have/want the original carts. I want to play the games how they were meant to be played. Maybe kids who exdperience this will be driven to try the new games... On real consoles. On a legitmately sized screen.

If there was a free demo, I honestly would tell you not to waste your time. If you tried it, you'd say "I know why I wanted to try it, and I now know why you told me not to bother".

There is a silver lining that you can get a refund on a buggy/glitchy game from the iOS App Store within the first week of purchase. They of course make it juuust enough of a pain in the ass process that half the time you think "ah screw it it was only 2 bucks, I'm not messing around on the computer for 15 minutes to get back the credit". In this case I likely will since it worked out to be about $20 CDN for maybe 3 minutes of full-on frown game time.

I definitely wouldn't close the door on mobile gaming altogether though. There are a handful of mobile games that rank up there with my all-time favourite video games, and I bet if you tried a few of them you'd agree. The 2-game series of Mage Gauntlet and Wayward Souls by developer Rocketcat Games stands out like a sore thumb freshly smashed with a hammer. They are not just amazing mobile games, they are amazing video games that 1000% deserve the attention of everyone on this forum. I'm drawing just as big of a blank to describe to you how incredible these games are as I was to describe how shitty Mega Man on mobile is.

Too bad about no demo... I was hoping to come back to say this, haha.

Well, if anything... it just reaffirms that the original is the best way to play the games.
  • Capcom might as well have released a phone port of Umbrella Corps then this lazy job.
  • Touch screen controls for any plat former is just a fucking pain in the ass.

I just don't get it. Give me a controller any day
  • Did you honestly expect better from a Mega Man game with touch screen controls?
  • Think it's a little funny on most of the reviews I read they say get an nes emulator with controller support and the roms as it's so much better. Which is true, but to me it came off as "hey they fucked this shit right up, let's show em and download those not so grey area roms that'll teach em!", but to be fair I also seen mention of the latest collection on Ps4, 3DS, Steam on some as well.
  • I don't think people quite understand what the purpose of some mobile releases are. When you install it, does it require access to your identity, account, calls or messages? Often the intended purpose of creating something like this is to get people to download it, try it, farm the contact information from their phone and then sell the phone numbers or email addresses to a third party company that uses them to spam you with advertisements. They will get people to download this and even if they have to refund everyone their money, they collected enough information to make them millions at no cost.
  • Bah! Stupid fuckin Capcom. Give me Mega Man Universe dammit! I'm done buying Mega Man until they give something new and worthy of the brand. Too bad it's never going to happen.

I am still grumpy today over the fact that they have cancelled Mega Man Universe.

I was dying to play as Bad Box Art Megaman in a legit Mega Man game and die to Metalman.

  • Capcom hates Mega Man.  In the same way that Nintendo hates Samus.

"Rest easy now... here in the land of forgotten characters."

  • Yeah... Capcom does seem to hate Mega Man.

It's funny/confusing/sad that they released the games like that.

Why didn't they use Digital Eclypse Mega Man Legacy Collection here? It was build specifically for porting the classic games to new platforms!

Digital Eclipses port on the XBox is pure trash and the latency makes it unenjoyable to play. Capcom hates the Mega Man franchise. I can no death MM2 on both difficulties without dying (and really quickly), but nope, not on the Legacy Collection. Hell, even the anniverary collections are garbage. I wouldn't expect a mobile port to be any better than the trash they've rereleased over the years.

Uh... what? Have any proof of that? If any game or app requires access to any of those, you have to give them permission, at least on iOS. Oh, on top of that it's illegal. Where's your sources on this conspiracy theory?

I 100% assumed the gameplay would be shitty (from other past touch screen controls). Seems to be correct.

But, I would at least hope Capcom could at least port the game without it being a choppy pile of garbage. Which, they have not.

Seriously.... I wish I could have sat in on some of those meetings to see just how the game was released.

"Well... the game is barely playable"

    "Can we fix it?"

"Yes, but that will take x amount of dollars"

    "Okay, fuck it, release it!"

    Thus the ensuing shitstorm.

I can't imagine it had anything to do with something other than money.

It seems utterly impossible that they couldn't port the game properly and NOT have lost all the frames or whatever god forsaken travesty that happened with these games.

So Capcom was too cheap to make the games properly and now they're dealing with the aftermath. Hopefully this will smarten them up a bit.

I mean... this is all in the understanding that even if they did make a PERFECT port of the game, it would still be hindered by the touch screen phone controls and tiny screen.

Ha! They'll probably use it as a means to justify why they can't bother making a new mega man, because "everyone hates everything we've put out for that franchise", while ignoring the fact they're doing a shitty job at making these games on newer platforms.

Haha, Capcom has lost their marbles. They do certainly seem to be ignorning their shitty job.

There should be someone there who isn't drinking the Capcom Kool-Aid working there who could have said "These games are terrible, we need to re-do these."

Honestly... how could a game development company release such a shitty game, no matter the franchise?

It being Mega Man is just downright blasphemous.
  • I know the mobile game is screwed up from what I am reading, but does anyone else thing the Mega Man bundle on the Xbox One is also screwed up? I got it during the holiday sale for cheap, but the controls feel off. I have only played it a few times, but the controls make it frustrating to play.

I didn't have any problem with Digital Eclipses port at all. I played just as terrible on it as I usually play. Comes with being really bad at videogames.

At least that one ran a 60 FPS and not sub 20 FPS like this one.

You're not the only one. I think I paid $15 or $20 for it, and it was the worst purchase of the year for games for me.

Can't you beat GnG without any issues, and with the torch, of all freakin weapons?!   It blows my mind that MM2 is difficult for you

Darn... I believe it was my worst buy as well. I am glad I only spent I think it was like $5 on it. Stupid XBOX Live holiday sale. It always manages to get me to buy a few games.

I was wondering about this game/set.

    Capcom... shame on you.

Well, the torch is clearly overpowered, so the games get so much easier, and Ikari Warriors is perhaps one of the easiest games ever, while MM2 has Metalman as a boss.

They will get people to download this and even if they have to refund everyone their money, they collected enough information to make them millions at no cost.

Uh... what? Have any proof of that? If any game or app requires access to any of those, you have to give them permission, at least on iOS. Oh, on top of that it's illegal. Where's your sources on this conspiracy theory?

Ever notice how there are 85 different flashlights in the Google Play store that all do the same thing and for some reason require access to your call list or text messages?

Can you tell me why a Transformers game requires access to the phone number calling me?

This is common practice, it's called data mining.

Also, how the hell did they manage to screw this port THAT badly?

Why didn't they use Digital Eclypse Mega Man Legacy Collection here? It was build specifically for porting the classic games to new platforms!

Digital Eclipses port on the XBox is pure trash and the latency makes it unenjoyable to play. Capcom hates the Mega Man franchise. I can no death MM2 on both difficulties without dying (and really quickly), but nope, not on the Legacy Collection. Hell, even the anniverary collections are garbage. I wouldn't expect a mobile port to be any better than the trash they've rereleased over the years.

I can beat the shit out of MM2 on Legacy or Anniversary with no problem.  There is a little bit of lag, yes, but if you know the game... it's nothing.  The mobile stuff I don't have faith in... but any other version?   I can do just the same with minimal difficulty.  MM2 is a cake walk no matter what you play it on.
