I just think StarFox on SNES is absolutely awful. I can't get into it. My introduction was 64, and I still think that is amazing. I keep trying to give the original a chance... but I just feel like it's a poor game. I don't really know what to say... I just don't get it.
I played Star Fox 64 too, it's not nearly as good, mainly because the difficulty was toned down a lot, the voice over is cheesy, the level design is less inspired and the music instrument set is exactly the same as Ocarina of Time. Yes, technically Star Fox 64 was released first, but OOT was announced far earlier. The music is so unfitting, it seriously detracts from the Star Fox 64 experience. The original Star Fox (and 2) had WAY better music.
Star Fox was hard for me to get into but eventually I came to like it. I still never beat it actually. It's too bad Nintendo doens't have the rights to the Super FX chip but I'd have liked to see it, Stunt Race FX and Yoshi's Island on Virtual Console. My favorite level in Star Fox (that I've seen so far) is Asteroid Field. One day I hope to sit down and really try to finish the game. I love the soundtrack to the game too.
Speaking of Super FX games, does anyone else love Stunt Race FX? I love the game, though I find the Expert level tracks to be pretty difficult to win. But I love the personality the cars were given, the music, and the forward thinking of the game despite pretty low frame rate.

Unlocking 2WD was a ton of fun.
I played that game quite a bit, back-in-the-day, but yeah, the frame rate is abysmal to the point that I doubt I would enjoy revisiting it.

I'm fairly certain the SuperFX is owned by Nintendo, Argonaut's name isn't on any of the production SuperFX chips. It was most likely contract work that resulted in Nintendo holding complete ownership. As others have said, Nintendo would have to write an emulator to handle SNES SuperFX games, they probably think there's no money in doing so.
If Asteroid Field is your favorite, you really must try Space Armada. Sector Y is pretty neat as it's essentially a makeshift ocean level, in outer space.

I'm a big fan of Stunt Race FX too, the vehicle physics are fantastic, even if they're overexaggerated. All the calculations to do that is probably why it has such a low frame rate. It doesn't bother me though, it's not THAT slow like some people say. I especially love that the sound effects gain an echo when you're driving inside a tunnel, I always thought that was an amazing added touch.

Oh yeah I definitely plan on trying to get through every level of Star Fox. Never hit Sector Y yet . I'm also horrible at shooters. It's on my bucket list though!
I like the echo in the tunnels of Stunt Race FX too. The frame rate is low but yea it's certianly not unplayable. I remember renting that game like 3 or 4 times from Blockbuster back in the day because I loved it so much, then rented it again after N64 was out and wished there was an N64 sequel. There's Stunt Racer 64 but it's not a sequel

I need to work on my boss strategies, Sector Y is hard to work with. Maybe I'll give Level 3 a try tonight, I'd love to check out Fortuna and Macbeth.
