Having the system available on its release. You also get to deal with any bugs from launch systems.

That is what I was thinking.......I "NEVER" buy 1st runs of "ANY" technology.

Well said my friend! Cheap ass people these days! Probably the lowest modern console launch price point!

It's not taken aback by the price.  It's not agreeing with where Nintendo decided to spend money on the unit itself.   I would have like to seen less of the Joy Con controllers....basically an updated Wii Mote.....and money spent on tech for the hardware.   Every game they showed thus far could have been produced on the Wii U.

It's already severly underpowered and more powerful hardware PS4 and Xbox One are cheaper, or same price...with 3x as powerful hardware $100 more in the PS4 PRO.

  • I also cancelled my Target pre-order and snagged one on Amazon, which means I effectively upgraded my shipping to release day for free. Nice!

  • Anyone have a link for ordering the pro controller yet?

I said screw it and did this as well. Was waiting for someone else to confirm they didn't charge until shipping. Thanks! :-)

Since when has it been the people or fans that decide which direction Nintendo takes its consoles? You're either along for the ride or you aren't. I for one am glad they included options for creative gameplay. And i bet if they didnt include some of these features there would be a gaggle of people arguing the opposite. Quit your bitchin people and embrace that which is Switch!
  • The controllers look...questionable. For a grown man, it would seem holding the small controller would lead to cramps or be uncomfortable. I'm disappointed a "regular" (Pro) controller isn't included by default.

Yeah, like I said I'm not really excited for it.  I was super disappointed with what they showed us. But I know I'm probably going to end up buying at some point anyway. I like having the option to get it at launch in case I change my mind, which is why i chose Amazon since they don't charge you right away. So it literally costs me nothing right now just to at least have the option. I know I want Zelda no matter what but I'm torn if I want it on Wii U or Switch. As you can tell I'm very conflicted.

Amazon never charges til shipping, which is why I like preordering form them. Gamestop in person takes $50 deposits, so it's not the full amount but it's something. But Amazon is the better option for me. Free release date delivery with Prime too!

You know what you can't get on PS4 or XB1?  Zelda, Mario, etc.  Nintendo is trying to find the sweet spot of what you'll pay to experience those.  $100?  Everyone and their mom would buy em up.  $500?  Only the most diehard fans would buy and there would be too much unsold inventory.  $250-$300 is a sweet spot for sure, and $300 isn't back breaking by any means.
  • Question: How many people are ordering the Switch because they want to the system vs how many ordered it to quickly flip it?

Bet you're doing to see a TON of these on ebay.

Also, lots of backlash against high prices:

"The pricing on Nintendo Switch accessories is a bad, bad joke"

    http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/13/14261342/nintendo-switch-extra-controller-price-terrible

Apparently docks are $90 and controllers $80. Then again, the system is "only" $299...?

I just ordered one for myself. I despise those that buy them just to flip on eBay but everyone is allowed to do whatever they want with products they own /shrug

As far as the docks being $90 so you can play on other tv's in your house...just move the console? Everyone is complaining about the extra costs to play on other tv's but its not not any other console is offering up docks. I think people take complaining too far sometimes.

  • It's not fair to criticize the controller at $80 because it really provides 2 player functionality. Which furthermore, since no one has mentioned it, has any console ever released with 2 player functionality out of the box? Sure, some consoles came with a 2nd controller pack-in on later releases, but the Switch releases with 2 player support right out of the box.

Also, if you are buying to flip, I think you're in for a rude awakening. Should have done that with NES classic. NES Classic was $60 to $250 or so at release, this is probably going to be $300 to $400-$450 at release. Much lower margin, especially when considering the 10% ebay fees and shipping that eats into it.

I don't know if a lot of people are honestly going to preorder it just to flip it this time. I feel like preordering was extremely easy for this. I figured it would sell out in an hour. I never buy a console just to flip it. I only preordered it to keep my options open. The console price is reasonable at $300, and it does come with everything you need to play it. But the accessories are insanely priced. I almost don't even want a pro controller or second dock.
  • And Amazon preorders now dead (again), so that lasted about an hour.

I don't mind the $299 price tag. The accessories on the other hand seem to be quite expensive.
  • I guess preorders for Breath of the Wild are sold out on Amazon? I kinda need it if I'm getting the console!

I picked it up from Best buy which had free release day shipping, or in store pickup if thats our thing.

  • $300 was one of the high points of the presentation imo. People expect to get something for nothing nowadays. Really happy I don't have to worry about paying for online since it is free for the first few months and I will have played all of the mp I want in that time and I doubt Nintendo releases another mp game that can captivate me. Splatoon 2 and Bomberman R are all I need for MP.
  • And damn it just hit me that we'll have these in hand in just 7 weeks. That will be here before we know it!

This is really dumb. Happy they are adding online to classics though.

Yes, this is really stupid.  I guess they aren't familiar with how Xbox games with gold works.  If you download the free game that month, it remains free to play as long as you as a member.

If Nintendo releases the "free game" that immediately reverts to paid at the end of the month, then that seems extremely cheap and trivial.

It feels like one of those Marketing comments where they see how people react and then promptly change if the talk turns negative. I know our Marketing Dept pulls that crap

  • I would be shocked if Nintendo pulls the game at the end of the month. I don't want to worry about it until they announce the service formally anyhow. In the meantime multiplayer is free. Nintendo was always about couch multiplayer for me so I will likely pass on the service.

Doesnt really surprise me. I had to pay for Super Mario World and whatever other SNES game on both Wii U & New 3DS. They could of easily made it cross platform but they want every sale they can get for their games.
  • I wonder if he is getting it from here:

Arent ebay fees for systems 4 percent? Paypsl then another 2.9 plus 30 cents
  • I'm not bothered by the price, not bothered by the pay-for-online model since I don't use online much anyway, I'm not bothered by the hardware itself - because honestly I like the actual hardware. I'm bothered by the severe lack of games. The launch is absolutely pathetic. There's Zelda, sure, and that looks absolutely stunning, but it's also going to be on Wii U, so I don't consider Zelda alone to be the reason to run out and buy a Switch. If Mario Odyssey was a launch title I'd have almost no problem, since at least it's a Switch exclusive at launch. Arms and 1-2-Switch look like budget/demo releases or games that should've been packed in with the system.

Anyway, I'm done spewing salt at the Switch. I'm disappointed and that's that. Despite being disappointed I really want to like the system, and I truly want it to succeed.
