  • Well I pre ordered the Master edition, Sonic Mania CE and that one from NIS. But I'm holding off on getting the console. Don't have the money and not in a rush to buy it. Also those pro controllers, wtf is with that price?!

Being the blind Nintendo fanboy and king of bad decisions that I am, I'm probably going to end up keeping my preorder anyway and being disappointed at launch after I finished Zelda. Getting Zelda in March, and waiting until November for Mario makes 2017 seriously lacking. With almost no 3DS games on the horizon and only Zelda and Mario as the big titles this year... Nintendo is giving us another disappointing year. If you're excited, I'm happy for you. If you guys like the launch titles, wonderful. Go all out and enjoy as much as possible. I want Switch to succeed. I want there to be a lot of support. I want them to try new things. But for me personally the launch lineup is a joke.

You know, I pretty much agree with you.  I will probably end up with 1-2-Switch and maybe Arms just to fill things out a bit.  I think my Switch usage is going to end up a lot like my Wii U usage where I go crazy for a few weeks at a time for a particular game and then dead space in between.  I guess it's good for me that I will spend most of my free time playing NES games anyway!

Yup that'll be me. I did the same thing with the Wii U. On big releases I played it a lot for a few weeks but it just sat and collected dust. Modern Nintendo disappointing me is partially what drove me to collect old games to begin with. Wii and Wii U did not hold my interest but at least I can go back and play SNES and N64 and be perfectly happy.
  • Say I have a switch and 1 set of joycons (that came bundled with the console). The switch is docked to the TV. I wanna play couch co-op split screen Mario Kart w/ my girl. Can we each use a separate joycon (her - L joycon, me - R joycon) or am I going to need to buy another pair of joycons?

Nintendo's play-style video on their website omits this scenario.

I am certain they showed in the presentation last night that you would just use one joycon each. They specifically showed it during MK8. Like you do now with the Wii controller.

Okay. They just always seem to show the typical 1-player scenario where you dock the system and then insert both joycons into the grip or 2 players huddled around the tablet screen each using a joycon.
  • Good chart SwiftFrost. It is insane for people to think this should be $199.

Right? People tend to forget it's just another handheld. It should be CHEAPER.

    >300$

    >No hard disk and normal controller included

    >2.5 hours battery life average

    >PAID ONLINE

    >single global region locking

  • Watched the presentation, still think the system has a lot of promise. The new Mario looks great, nice to see a real follow up to 64/sunshine.

Not too many killer apps, lots of ports and waggle shovel ware. Launch lineup is especially weak, though I do love me some Bomberman. Not disappointed but not blown away either.
  • I think the big price fail is on the games and the accessories. If the system included 1,2, shovelware or shovelarms, it'd probably be a bit better, but those at $60, lol. I also think the pro controller is priced too high.

I find it interesting how this is blurring the lines between handheld and home console. Weather you like it or not, those joy-con controllers have a lot of tech in them which I think helps justify the base price a bit more. HD rumble, IR, streaming button, etc. Hell, wii+ remotes still go for $30+ each.

I will be very interested as to how much online is. I think that was a big buzz kill putting that right at the start of the presentation with not too much else about it. Nintendo has a terrible record for online, so we'll see. Could also be a big mistake with how many kids play the console (Splatoon/kart online).

    I do not understand.

    >$100-$200 cheaper than XB1/PS4 at launch

    >Not as powerful as XB1/PS4 and not as much space (I am hoping most of the game data will be on the carts, making space a moot point), but that's been the case for a few generations and they still manage to make good games

    >It comes with that attachment for the controllers, right? I think that will work fine.

    >The fact you can take it out and play on-the-go at all is neat. I don't think I'll be doing that much if at all, but it's still neat you can do it. If it only gets two hours, so be it. I don't know many that game on-the-go for more than a couple hours a day.

    >Paid online doesn't bother me. I can afford $50/year if the service is up to par.

    >I do not care about region locking. It's never been an issue for me before.

I have not pre-ordered this and probably won't get it for a while. If I didn't have a butt load of games to keep my interest for a few months, I probably would have. I am not upset by much with this release.
  • I'm just imagining how many people are going to lose sides of the controller.

  • I hope they change the free monthly game thing. Should be permanent, I know people that would love getting a free game per month, hell, I would.

I don't give Microsoft a lot of credit, but Games with Gold is a great program.  easily the best out of Sony / Nintendo's and MS's current premium online deals.

Yeah but it's not going to keep people from buying a Switch or using the online service. And they can get a bunch of people to buy these ROMs. Why not, right? Making these permanent means they're losing one potential eventual sale per month for each user of online services.

and yet I can still preorder one with Gamestop. They've been known to flake out on preorders (for me at least), so they could be full of shit.

I just think it's funny that if this had been an amiibo, it would actually be out of stock literally everywhere within three minutes of going live.

Have they saaid if some of those are gonna be digital only? Like Bomberman?

And have the Pro Controllers popped on Amazon yet?
  • I think Nintendo really botched the presentation. Not only was it awkward and poorly paced, but the launch lineup was atrocious. Nintendo didn't give anyone a reason to buy a switch at launch except for Zelda and even most people that have a Wii u would prefer to just play Zelda on Wii u and wait until Mario comes out to buy a switch. That speaks volumes.

Nintendo would have been better off releasing Switch holiday season 2017 where the launch lineup would be epic and the games in 2018 would be strong and consistently released one or two months apart so that people can always have something special to play.

That being said, since I don't have a Wii u, I reserved my switch at gamestop today. I still love Nintendo and I have to take the bad with the good.

I do find it hilarious that the Wii U release of Zelda will likely have somewhat of a negative impact on the Switch. It's like the Wii U reaching its cold, dead hand from the grave...

  • How is it a negative impact when the systems flew off the shelf in less than a day? The systems are sold. By the time theres more we'll have a few more games and Mario will be out before we know it! Quit whining people! Like Nintendo and the World owes you somethin!

Yeah it does seem to want to cannabalize the Switch version. I'm having a hard time deciding which version to get.
  • Went to Gamestop an hour before open. Second in line and they had 26 switch consoles, 6 Zelda collector's. I paid the preorder in full for the Switch w/ gray joycons (the "neons" are garish to me, looks like a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich) and a Zelda collector's edition. I wanted to get a PRO controller and that new Bomberman game, but the SKUs weren't in the system. Pity I really wanted the Master Sword one but it was listed as online only.

Anyway I couldn't sleep last night before driving to Game Stop so I took a long hard nap after I got home...

Well a lot of people are going to be disappointed in the Wii u version. There will be a lot of lagging and frame rate issues because of how big the game is that the switch version will not suffer from. So get the switch version.

Nintendo should have made Zelda Switch only for a lot of reasons.

But why? Wasnt the game developed to run on the WiiU?

My Gamestop had 28. They only had 7 of the neon though. I don't know why, but I like the neon so that's the one I went with.

Did you get the Zelda you wanted? Looks like they gave you the Special Edition and not the Master Edition.

Good for you. I just think the neons are a bit garish, look like a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich. I'm not sure what the exact ratio was at my Gamestop.
