Its really hard to say. I used a triwing out of my tamper-proof set. I can also imagine that you can make a flathead work if you really try (maybe put a rubberband on the tip of the screw driver head for extra friction). Mine were very loose so I can't imagine it being that difficult to jerry-rig something so that you can get it out.

since there was a chip in the side of my monitor bezel missing on the side, i decided to use this to run an IR blaster left over from a cable box, and a usb extension, for future testing.

I tried every brand remote I have, and by pure luck, my daughter's Element remote worked, though the buttons sent different signals than what they're marked as. There is indeed a menu for adjusting picture settings, and the menu is a typical element GUI

    image

it should be noted that it seems many functions are disabled, probably due to heavy modification by Lynx before distribution

Who would have guessed element? Are there any settings for audio?

  • This is the set I've used for years, for all of those itty bitty kiosk security screws, and cartridges, and it's never let me down.

typical audio menu shenanigans, but I'm not screwing with it anymore until I find a few more Element remotes to monkey with. The one I have makes it kind of bonkers

    Awesome, thanks!

SNES, yeah I tried jacking with a flat head and mine are in there pretty tight, buying a set is now my last resort.  I just hate how the nubs of cables look.

Yeah I hear ya, the first thing I did was remove those stupid cut wires (gamepad too). From there I made caps for them so I didn't have to look at an exposed ps/2 port.

I just used a very small masonry drill bit that I had in a bit set to loosen mine up.  (They have a flat flared tip.)  I think that the right sized flat head srew driver would work too, but would have to be very small.  Mine weren't very tight either.

for those that haven't ventured into disassembly, the monitor has an extra HDMI, USB, and a headphone jack IR port behind the bezel. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that there is a way to access menu functions, but now that my kids are aware of its presence, further inspection is nearly impossible

Congrats Adam! Was hoping you were able to nab one. I have been meaning to reach out to you to see if you did and also just to see how life has been overall.
  • dewisp02 told me this is the place for Wii U kiosk discussion, so here I am!

I picked up a Wii U kiosk about 3 weeks ago from a local GameStop. I had called them asking about getting one, and after some discussion and verification with district reps, they let me know they'd hold it for me. I picked it up a few days later. I haven't actually powered it on, but it's fairly complete and clean. I was told that it was fully functional before the Nintendo rep removed the console and controllers. There are cut cords for the controllers, but not the console. I do have the key. It also looks like they left everything inside (cords, connections, hardware). I do not have demo a demo disc. I don't have room in my current house, but I'm moving later this year. I can't wait to set it up!

I'll update with some pictures shortly.

  • Has anyone else with a stock display had any success in using the second hdmi port? Mine doesn't switch over when using the input button under the display.

Yes, I have my NES Classic Mini hooked up to it.  Power on the kiosk (plug it in) and just grab a tooth pick in order to depress the Input button.  You have to hold the button 10-15 seconds before releasing it and then it will switch over.

    Congrats ninjistar!

Anyone know what the second small Wii U Gamepad charging brick is for, it's by itself on the 2nd shelf.  Mine leads back somewhere.

  • Here are some photos and info from my kiosk for inclusion in the list.

Im guessing I didnt wait as long as I could have to switch that input! Time to add a second HDMI cable up there.

    Thanks for the tip!

Thanks. I stalked mine from a particular store for a month when I heard they were getting dumped, so I made sure I was kind of prepared this time.

Its used to power the Wiimote controller box. It takes power from that and (I think) data from usb. I'm not sure at this point. I'm gonna try to find a pinout if I can for future reference.

Thanks!  This is my first kiosk.  Because of that, I was pretty excited to pick it up.  I had hoped to get the demo console and all, but was not able to. I'm still satisfied with it. I love the blue lighting and the look of this kiosk in general. I was hoping to get more than one, but after realizing the time and effort needed to move and load one of these, I decided to not puruse that idea at this time

  • I've included my info below to help with more easily updating the list on page one. I am not sure about a few things (like the model # and the "tv bezel"). Someone please chime in if there is an obvious error here.

  • Has anyone mentioned the model of subwoofer that came with these units? I wonder if they are commercially available.

I made a goodwill run looking for a replacement subwoofer and most were too large to fit in the pedestal.

The subwoofer is a generic one. it has a A 10W speaker with a 6 Ohm impedence. The funny thing about it is that it just takes an positive/negative input and then is hooked up in parallel with the right speaker. Theoretically, you can make your own if that helps.

  • I was able to land a kiosk today. Controller wires were cut and missing along with the Wi U and Gamepad. TV was busted and it needs some work, but did land 4 demo discs. I also found 4 SD Cards in the bottom of the cabinet. Do the SD Cards go with the display, and what do they contain if so?

I will need to clean it good and re-wire it as they unhooked all the wires but look forward to getting it working.

    Congrats on the find.

I disasembled much of my cabinet to get it clean. Its amazing how much dust was not only inside but in little nooks and crannies you wouldnt expect to get dirty.

Hint: When it comes to the white plastic a magic eraser is your friend. I wet mine with isopropyl instead of water.

Yea, the amount of dust is crazy. Will definitely try a magic eraser and alcohol to clean it up. Need to look at the wiring as they unwired it. The block the LED's plug into was damaged a little from tossing it in the dumpster. Hopefully just the casing was damaged and it's still functional.

My goal is to get it clean first and then wire up the lighting. Then I can work on the TV and getting a regular Wii U hooked up until I can maybe find a Wii U demo unit with controllers and gamepad at some point in the future.

    Edit: Serial #4183 N, N, N, Y (Busted monitor), Y, Y, N, Y, N, Y, N, Y (4-Listed below)

Demo discs: May 15, Aug 15, Nov 15, Mar 16, and 4 SD Cards which I was told are to update the demo units so the discs work properly.

The lynx box for all the LED is just a bunch of individual fuses for each wire. My lights are wired up directly to a 9v power supply even though the original is 12v. Why 9v? I thought it was bright enough. It doesnt need 12.

Cool. I think it's just tbe casing that's damaged. If it works I'll use it but if not atleast I know I can replace it.

  • after dewisp explained what the wrench was to me, I went back and checked and I do have the wrench with my kiosk.

I also have a few questions, just out of curiosity.

Do you guys have any idea what that extra shelf at the top of the underneath part of the kiosk is meant for? I just put wii u games there, but is there something that's meant to go there?

Also, for those of you that have the papers, demo discs, or SD cards, where in your kiosk did you find those?

I also find it odd that the store managers of your guys' Gamestops were so cautious about giving you guys the kiosks... My manager seemed happy to give it to me, all I did was leave her my number and a few weeks later I walked in and she told me to take it wherever I wanted. She knows me and my sister as regulars and gives us promotional stuff from time to time, but besides that we don't have much of a connection.

My GS wouldn't tell me if I could have itr not. Tbey said it was Nintendo property and they weren't sure what would happen with it once they came to get it.

I found 3 Demo discs in the dumpster along with some cables and chords. The SD Cards and another demo disc were on the bottom shelf mixed in with the wires and dust, lol. Didnt know they were even there until I got it home.

I would assume it was meant for storing forementioned demo discs or something along those lines. Personally, I use it for the additional hardware (audio amp, raspberry pi, custom power distribution box, and the custom audio splitter I made) that I added in to improve the functionality of this thing. I assume it had no real purpose other than that.

The gamestop manager that gave me mine didn't really seem to care if I took it or not. She just was adament about getting nintendo's hardware back to nintendo and making sure everything was done by the book (probably why I didn't get the key and demo discs/sd cards). I think these gamestop employees are reluctant because it may go against some sort of policy or they may just not know that nintendo only owns the console and controllers inside it. Other than that, I had no real problems with them and every person I talked to said that they either didn't know or just gave me a straight up yes or no. So perhaps just a miscommunication on the end result of these things.

  • Does anyone here have the assembly / disassembly instructions? If so, would you mind posting them here or PM'ing them to me? I have the opportunity to save another Wii U kiosk, but we need to take it apart.
  • I just picked up this one and got it set up in my gameroom. It was surprisingly in amazing condition, just a bit dusty. The TV seemed brand new without a scratch or fingerprint on it, which I thought was strange, but was very happy about it. Sadly, there was no WiiU with it, but the key was in it, so I am pretty happy about that as well. Once I put my WiiU in it and cleaned it up a bit, it turned out very nice. I will post my serial number tomorrow morning in an update post. It was found in GA.
