I would try to help, but the platformer selection this year isn't as fun for me.

Heck, it even started with freaking Mario 3!

Well, a stupid death on Wendy ended it for me. Blah. I'll try to get another run or two in this week, but time is tight, and I have some other gaming goals for the week, too. Nice scores, peeps!

That is some insane point pressing. Makes me wish it would have been a low score contest instead.

Low score contest you have to wait out the timer. High score contest you have to point press. Either way is tedious.

Or just simply progression with the tiebreaker being high/low score.
  • there only one way to play smb3 competition. max point pressing

Well,it makes you spend a lot more time on 1-1,1-2,and other select levels rather than focusing on the entire game. It seems like more of a SMB 3 1-1 comp than the whole game.

  • Point pressing is boring and I'm no good at it anyway.

  • I don't mind point pressing,I just think that it often takes away from a game as a whole by having to focus on a certain few levels. But then again if you really like the game then it just adds to the fun.
  • It took me like 20 minutes to read through this thread and I'm glad I did... Some great scores too.

    Is this legal?
  • I told myself I'd only give this one go. Too much other responsibilities to spend the time. I took a shot today and was somehow more confident than justified on the first hammer bros challenge in world 2; lost a life with approx 250k points. I could have been higher if in better practice on 1-2 point pressing, but I lost a tail twice in pretty short order. Maybe I can post for participation tomorrow if I don't have too many chores.

One thing I did relearn is, you get more points on Boom-boom stomping than using fireballs; also no points either way on the Koopa kids.

Easiest early point-pressing tips - raccoon floating (ducked): goombah pipe after the hill in 1-2 - let the goombahs build up a bit; and set of 3 drybones before 1st thwomp in world 2 fortress.

Pro-tip for 1-2: You can double up on the 8k point scores by whacking something with your tail, and then landing on something else.
