Curious what the conditions are for getting the good ending i've heard about. I figured it was just finishing everyone's side quests and giving each person their special items.

So, how long of a game is it? I just found the Nun and stoped at the camp at the "Nameless Coast."

  • I'm only about 2 hours in to Ys VIII so far. Been spending most of my time with Game Boy games and my NES Classic.

Another letdown. Is nintendo really going to have a year and a half for people like me who dont care about smash and rpgs waiting for a good first party solo player experience title?

Yes. *Patiently waits for Metroid to be delayed*

Hopefully the Switch is just experiencing the same lull that the Wii U had around the same time and will see a good set of releases in 2019-2020. Seems like it'll be Smash until fall 2019 though :/

  • Mario Tennis seemed ok from the demo, but it's not a game I'm interested in playing online in all honesty. Add me to the list of people that was bummed the single player was lacking (especially since I thought I heard it was going to be more fleshed out before it released). I was really hoping for something like the GBC single player content. I will also probably wait for a decent sale, and then use it as a couch multiplayer game.

There's so many great games to play on Switch now though, even though Nintendo's line up for this year isn't that amazing. I'm a big fan of Smash so I can't wait for that. Yoshi would have been a nice addition to the holiday season but oh well. I've found myself playing Splatoon 2 a lot more than I played the original. I think a big part of that is the controller is so much more comfortable than the bulky Wii U gamepad.

I'm thinking it will, all things considered there is quite a bit of good games for it for how long it has been out for.

Usually at the 2-3 year mark the best stuff starts coming out though.

I liked the wii u gamepad. I had zero problem with it. I dont think the switch is anymore comfortable. The analog sticks on wii u were much better to me. The problem is i got the switch for nintendo games. Very lacking. I dont want to play indies All that much. I dont buy nintendo for 3rd party.

Id be fine with things if theyd just announce some stuff being in development i csn look forward too. Tell us mario maker is coming or something. I dont expect much. I was looking forward to yoshi but like usual yoshi game delayed for years
  • I enjoyed the Wii U gamepad a lot. I feel like it's more comfortable than the Switch as well. Was a pretty cool console. Glad I have mine hooked back up.

I meant the Pro Controller with Splatoon 2, I'm pretty sure you're locked in to the gamepad on the Wii U version which was always super uncomfortable for me, especially with motion controls. I never understood why they required that when you could use other controllers in the split screen mode. And the Switch Pro Controller is arguably the best and most comfortable controller I have used across any system.

The Switch portable isn't super comfortable for sure, but my biggest gripe with it (and the Wii U gamepad too, actually) is the text is so tiny on some games in handheld mode. I remember that being an issue with Xenoblade X, and I'm playing through Mario and Rabbids on Switch now and tried to use it in bed last night and was having such a hard time reading the hit percent. I very rarely play the Switch in portable mode so it isn't a huge deal, but it's just kind of annoying. There should be an option to scale text or something.

You could turn gyro controllers off in splatoon 1. That was the first thing i did  after tutorial. Having the touch screen map coverage at a glance  was better imo. Its thecreason i havent gotten splatoon 2. Feels like a downgrade

LOL You're the only person who feels that way   I just can't believe people expect a mario tennis game to have a rich single player. Do you guys play 2K, Madeen or FIFA single player campaigns? They're long asf and detailed as hell. If Nintendo pulled that shit it wouldn't even feel right. The status quo is shallow multiplayer and rich online.

Has anyone played recent installments or Mario sports games? Didn't we get exactly what they've been putting out for the last 5+ years? If you ask me, sounds like the woes for fair whehtur Nintendo stanz.

Dont know if you were aware but the older mario sports games had a story and unlockables. The gameboy color ones were great. Mario baseball on gamecube had a great simple single player mode. Everything gamecube and before sports wise were good. Even Wii had a couple great ones.

The point was they emphasized this games solo campaign and hyped it up as a big feature. Like it was coming back. Its super short. You dont unlock anything. Its like a tutorial.
  • Well, it technically is a big feature in the modern landscape. Lots of games like this are multiplayer only. Seems like fewer people give a shit about implementing a single player mode when they could just rush out multiplayer and make their money. At this point, if it's expected to be playing with 2 or more people it's online only for the most part.

I'm surprised Nintendo has gone further down this path. Splatoon single player sucks, but I'm glad they at least did something. Any other company or console and that would have only been the online stuff.
  • I was just disappointed there is another tennis game instead of golf. I loved Toadstool Tour and its one of the few GC games i play regularly.

I remember being quite frustrated with the Wii u early on. At least the Switch has good games for those who didn't get to a lot of stuff on the wii u.

I played the 3ds golf game. It was pretty good.  We did a couple tournaments on here with 6-10 people a couple times. It was fun.

Yea I'm aware. I'm also aware that those games haven't been made for 10+ years. Compaired to Sports mix for Wii, or 3ds, Tennis on Wii U, the Switch tennis IS and upgrade. The way you unlocked characters in 3ds was buy amiibo CARDS ffs and the 3ds tennis was pretty much a joke. Comparing GameCube games (or their Wii remakes) isn't gna hold up well considering those games were made with online as an after thought. Games are the complete opposite now.

Yea even most AAA games that have single player games only come with around 10 hrs of content and it's only done as fan service. Smash 4 was like that.

Like I said. They heavily advertised the single player mode as a huge perk. Its nothing basically
  • Still playing sky force reloaded, man I'm enjoying replaying levels and leveling up my ship.

Off work today, maybe I'll stroll into EB Games and buy some more games. Definitely want to pick up Crash.

Uh... yeah. Watch the original reveal trailer (around 4:30). They made it seem like there would be a big emphasis on the story mode this time around as the FIRST reveal and impression of the game (with the tagline for the game even being "Serving Up A Story Everyone Can Love". So yeah, I don't think it was that unrealistic to expect something like the older Mario Tennis/Sports games, especially since Camelot is the same company that did those. Fans have been asking for that for a long time. I don't think anyone was expecting something as intricate as Madden or FIFA, but a fun single player experience with the Mario charm.

I haven't played the game yet, so maybe it is, but based off what everyone is saying that is not what they ended up doing.

And please, don't pull out that "fair weather fan" shit.   I've been buying Nintendo products my entire life, through the ups and downs. I'm sure most people on this forum have. It's fine for people that want to play online. I've watched some people streaming it and it looks like a lot of fun. But that's not something that interests me much personally.

Not sure if you're a "phone games guy", but Sky Force Reloaded is available for iOS and Android, and it's free. I play very few mobile games as most genres really suck on mobile due to the touch controls, but shoot-'em-ups are an exception for sure. Some really good mobile shrimps out there. RIP to the awesome Cave iOS splarmps like Espgaluda, Dodonpachi, Mushihimesama and Deathsmiles that never got updated and removed from the App Store

Thanks for the heads up but I can’t game on mobile, just dont like it.  Im also on my phone for work enough as it is so anymore wouldn’t be good for anyone.

Besides, switch rules so I don’t mind spending the $10 or whatever it was for us in Canada.

  • 7 hours into Ys now. At first I wasn't really digging it, but playing it today... I'm really into it. I hate that some games take time before they get fun to play. In 7 hours I probably could have beaten Books I and II by now. Oh well.

I'm enjoying it now, regardless. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was more fun initially so I really need to get back to that.
  • Good to know that it starts out slow and gets better. I haven't started it yet but hearing overall very good stuff about it.

Well i'm 52 hours into the game now. Have 93% of them map complete, Found all the location points and sorta just tying up some loose ends around the island. Think i have all the people now as i was able to remove the last baricaded spot that took 24 people. The boss was pretty tough in that location! I don't think i was really ready to take him on at my current level but finally beat him after blowing through most of my potions and food!   Figured since im this close i may as well shoot for 100%. I think i'm on the last story mission now.
  • I am 14 hours in now and have 15 villagers. The night exploring dungeons are exhausting my resources, I had to use up all my food and save the potions for the boss. I don't like the raids they always pop up when I am in the middle of a dungeon.

The raids sorta become less frequent as you progress but yeah them night explorations missions can be pretty tough.

  • Mutant Football League preorder up on Amazon

Would link but on my phonw
  • I need to stop buying so many Switch games. I spent the last 2 weeks trying to find a cheap Octopath Traveler Wayfarer edition on eBay because they were sold out everywhere. I just logged into my Amazon account and forgot that I pre-ordered it back in March...
  • Are physical copies of Mutant football league in short supply? I don't know much about the "indie" physical releases to know if they are something you have to jump on right away, or you can wait for a price drop, or buy used cheaper.
