It was available for preorder briefly on Amazon and Best Buy (and maybe Gamestop). The release date got pushed back to August though. I don't know if they went up for sale again since then, but I'm pretty sure I got mine reserved from Best Buy back in May.

Ah ok.. that is where the confusion lies I think. I saw a couple sources stating the LE preorders were available starting today. I thought that meant available to preorder since I saw the 8/31 release date. Well damnit... missed this one.

  • Banner Saga Trilogy preorder up. And it has the dreaded white cover wrapper
  • Been working lots lately. Wife surprised me with some pickups

Owlboy wasnt available in May at BBY. Popped up on June 4th and was up for a grand total of an hour. When I added to my cart it wouldn't let me. Went up to store and it let me. Hasn't been back up since and store preorders were turned off the next day. :-(

You're right, Best Buy went up June 4, Amazon went up on May 22.

My Best Buy order has a message about there being a shipping delay and "if we can't ship it by Aug 11 we'll let you know and cancel the order", but I'm hoping/assuming because they havent updated the release date in their system yet.

So anyone play Octopath Traveler yet? My Wayfarer edition showed up today but I want to finish Mario and Rabbids before I jump into it.
  • Anyone know if Shining Resonance Refrain has a regular edition? It is posted on Amazon but was hoping to see a pic to confirm. I will put the "Launch Edition" on the main list for now
  • Ok updated the list with games released this past week. Also cleaned up the LRG stuff.
  • Worth noting Runner 3 was a Nicalis release so it had some goodies that came with it like all the first print Nicalis games. Manual, mini soundtrack, little light up character dangler(or whatever you wanna call it. I'd say keychain, more like a phone dangler thing tho) and reversible cover art.

Ys VIII also released as the Adventurers edition. Had some Bonuses, cards, double sided map/poster and reversible cover art as well. I don't know if there was a normal edition that came out also. That adventurers edition also came inside the Limited Edition from NISA.

I think there was a regular edition along side that Draconic Edition Shining Resonance since they had 2 separate Amazon listings even before it came out but not positive.

  • Damnit, Runner has stuff? Might have to go buy that.
  • Thanks DFunk, added it to the list.

Loxx all the Nicalis games have stuff. This includes the upcoming Code of Princess EX

I think its pretty much a foregone conclusion that Nicalis titles will have stuff included with them at launch.
  • I'm sure I already knew that but I didn't pay much attention to the release since I'm not a big fan. They're not bad games but I don't put much time into them. May as well prep myself for Super Meat Boy Forever...
  • I just realized that there will be more games released by the end of this year then the Wii U had total

crap just realized Touhou Genso Wanderer comes out Tuesday.  Need to update the listy
  • Ugh completely missed the Amiibo release of the latest Splatoon 2 pack. When will new releases of these things be available for longer than a day!?

There's 20 of them at my local Best Buy. Did you check there?

Best Buy online says nothing in store anywhere near me, I will still check though

  • So I wanted to finish Ys VIII before Octopath Traveler came out on Friday, but it took me longer than expected to wrap things up. I completed Ys VIII just now (a little over 66 hours total) and all I can say is... WOW! I had never played an Ys game before so I really wasn't sure what to expect, but I was completely blown away. I'm very glad that I didn't rush through or put it down to start Octopath upon release, because the true ending was worth seeing.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think I enjoyed Ys VIII slightly more than Breath of the Wild. I certainly recognize that BoTW is a technically superior game in many ways, but I just had more fun playing Ys VIII. The story was more interesting, the characters more compelling, the combat mechanics more satisfying, and the party system & other RPG elements were very well done. In some respects, Ys VIII felt more like a traditional Zelda game than BoTW did. Don't get me wrong -- I'm a lifelong fan of the Zelda franchise and I liked BoTW quite a lot -- I just think I liked Ys VIII a bit more.

Anyhow, I now want to go back and play some of the other Ys games. Any suggestions on where to start?

If you enjoyed VIII then 7 for PSP and Memories of Celceta for PS Vita will be right on up your alley. They have similar combat styles.

If it's the fast-paced action you like particularly, then any of the other PSP games are prime; the different art style shouldn't put you off.

The older games (1, 2, 4, and their remakes) are a few steps away, with you literally just walking into enemies to do damage. It's a pretty different experience, though still in the same vein.

3 on the SNES is... well it's the Link's Adventure of the series, frankly. A perfectly fine game in and of itself, and I do suggest it generally, but it's a side-scroller rather than top-down, and is the most different game in the series (discounting Ys Tactics).

Oath in Felghana on the PSP is my personal favorite.

I could talk Ys for days so feel free to hit me up if you need more info. I suggest looking up gameplay videos for each game so you can see the different styles of combat and art style.
  • So what you're saying is, I need to get a PSP?

And what's the best way to play the older games? Any compilation releases on (relatively) modern consoles? Emulation?

By the way, I'm a huge fan of GameValueNow -- I use it all the time for NES collecting (I'm at 722 games right now) and was so happy to see it back up & running with the eBay API issues resolved. Keep up the great work!
  • It's been a while since I've been in this thread (I really need to post more on NA in general lol), but I wanted to share an updated collection pic with everyone since I recently took one. I got my Switch a year ago as of the beginning of the month, so I thought it would be interesting to see how much the collection grew....and it has grown a lot more than I thought it would!

I also got my Thimbleweed Park Big Box Edition and Octopath Traveler Wayfarer Edition, but those came in after I took this. Can't wait for the Switch collection to grow and grow. The Switch is takign over my life! XD

Cheers, we're as happy GVN is up as you are believe me!

Yeah get a PSP haha. The best variety is on there tbh, and if you have never had one, it's a great system with MANY great games! If I were to do a list of "hidden gem" consoles it'd be at the top. PSP is really easy to hack these days, too, so really once you make the initial investment you're set. Though you may just end up liking the console so much you start up a collection!

There are compilations of the older games, including 1&2 on the DS as a pack, and the same (Ys Origins) on PS Vita and PS4.

Further, Ark of Napishtim is available on both PSP and PS2, so you have options with that one in particular.

    Cool, thanks for the tips!

Ah sorry, I mistyped. Ys Origin is... well an origin story haha. It's just been re-released a number of times is all I meant. It was originally released back in 2006 on Windows (XP), and has been re-released for PS4 and Vita. I was mentioning it in the same thought as 1&2, and mixed up my wording haha. Different games!

  • Ah ok, thanks. So Origins is a prequel of sorts?

Is there a natural order or starting point you'd recommend for the series?
  • I agree with gloves that you'd probably dig Celceta and VII! Kind of a toss up for me between VII and VIII at this point.

A prequel, yes. Set long before the adventures of Adol.

The beauty of the Ys series is that they are all, with the exception of Origins, simply the misadventures of Adol Christin. They have an order, certainly, and sometimes the newer ones reference the older ones, but never anything enough to ruin a game by playing one before another. Mostly each game makes some slight reference to an older game ("Haha Adol, remember that time we sank a ship with our bare hands!?!?"), as well as some allusion to a future game ("Boy, I'd really like to visit a desert someday").

Definitely feel free to play in any order you please!
