PS4 a future collector's system
The PS4 has only been out for a little over 4 years and the library is now cranking titles out at full steam. As of today, there are 576 titles either already released or confirmed for upcoming release. Nearly 100 titles are Limited Run Games, plus an easy 100 more are on small indie labels. I am not counting Limited Edition's and Collector's Editions separate from the standard version. Furthermore, there are between 90-100 PAL exclusives, and then you also have 20 more games as part of the PSVR library. Count that # with the main library and you close in on 600 freaking games!
Talk about a big difference: Wii U was released an entire year earlier and to this day has well under 200 titles.
With strong support continuing in this generation for physical media and for indie titles getting physical releases tenfold over the previous generation, I would argue the PS4 will be a collector's treasure trove in generations to come. It's hands down blowing the shit away at Xbox One when it comes to indie titles, especially since LRG isn't publishing for Microsoft.
My favorite title, while hard to pick just one, I put this bad boy at the top of the list:

So yeah... anyone else fascinated by the PS4?

I know collectors repair NES systems all the time but they're easy to repair. I feel like the disc stuff would be a pain in the ass.
I do like me some indie games though
Ain't nobody got time for this. Some idiot is gonna be chasing after JUST DANCE 2017 on PS4 in 2030, come on man, get your priorities straight.
Just Dance made me lose 30 pounds man, don't be knocking that shit.

That 30 pounds was probably just your balls.
ps: you used to have big balls.
All of that in mind, it'll take a really special individual to want to have a whole PS4 set, and we'll probably end up seeing future collectors forgetting that under-advertised non-mainstream titles like LRG releases even existed physically. A situation like that would be funny to watch unfold, actually. I don't think those titles are going to command the kind of money some folks think they will.

Thats an interesting point. I can see it being a major pain to make a checklist of physical games, when theres so much digital only and some do release physical. Also theres no way in hell LRG games will be worth a lot in the future. People buy them as a collectible with the idea that they can flip it for profit later, and when everyone has that same idea, there just wont be that scarcity that the people buying them think there is.
This actually makes me curious -- is there a list somewhere of the PS4 titles that do or do not have patches released? That way, you could still collect titles and be assured that in the future, you'll always be able to play the best released version of it.
I think when you buy like "game of the year" versions for xbox 360/ps3 its all the DLC, but also any patches that were released. Probably a similar thing for ps4 right?
Nah I'm not into it. LRG is a good idea for players but the collectors are being taken for a ride. 100 games from them alone at $30 each? Sounds like a collector's nightmare. The Ghost of Collecting's Future takes future PS4 collectors to a neck beard nest, shows how they ordered multiple copies of each game to keep sealed, spent 80k just to have them all, then explains to the PS4 collector that 100s of people just like this are the reason why they'll never have a complete PS4 set. The future collector wakes up shouting for joy exclaiming
Actually, I also am not big on the disc based systems in general, but is it just the day one updates and stuff that people don't like? Can you really not play a lot of these PS4 games without an update and a patch? Are there going to be hundreds of orphan PS4 titles in the future once the servers shut down?
Why collect a lot of shit?
More games released = more shit
Why collect a lot of shit?
Have a look at the ps4 indie library and get back to me.
Wow! I'm quite surprised by the negativity in this thread, I thought the PS4 was the new hotness! I don't have a dog in this fight, as I've never so much as played a PS4, but loads of people have been saying there are great games on that system...
PS4 is amazing, and has way more fun games than Wii U or Switch. I think some people here don't want to admit that Sony has been making better consoles than Nintendo for over 20 years now.

Yeah Sony has been better for 20 years hands down, I just wouldn't collect a full set for PS4.....Or any full set really.
Plenty of shit everywhere really.

nobody is arguing that. Playing and collecting are two different things

Although everyone is entilted to their own opinion........you sir, are wrong about the Wii U. Nintendo exclusives on that system that are must plays and fun outnumber fun and must play PS4 games. I own both systems and a Switch. The Switch already has 1 game better than all PS4 games as well, but that's unfair. All hail Breath of the Wild.
The first problem is cheap consoles. These new consoles and accessories break super easy. They are made as cheap as possible.
Second is the stupid amount of updates they are going through. As of now there are three generations of Xbone and PS4 consoles.
Third, most games will be just discs once the servers go down. A ton of new games require regular server sign in to even turn them on.
Fourth, look at the Original Xbox and the 360 (not sure about PS3). Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Halo 2 have DLC that I will never get to play because my data got deleted. Not being able to go back and play something I paid for makes me mad.
Fifth, game series have been ruined. Nintendo continues to impress us with games that are new yet similar to their roots. Look at Halo, Gears, and Street Fighter,Gran Turismo, Battlefield, Battlefront, and Twisted Metal (there are plenty more). These franchises were once masterpieces and now they are mere shadows of what they were.
Last but not least, all of the limited editions. This is the biggest complaint I have. Need for Speed only sold in a "Limited Edition" for the first six months of its release...how is that limited?
Sadly so many games are coming out for the PS4 at a fast rate that I haven't had time to play the library properly. So most of my games are still sealed.
