Nes Development Unit

Recently bought an original NES Development unit for my collection. Up until now I have lacked Development equipment for the NES. Thought some other collectors would find this interesting being NES Dev equipment is rarely seen.

  • Nice piece man, cool to see.
  • Neat. So what does it do? Flash roms?

This unit would allow the developer during the build to run the rom on the NES hardware. Upside to this was cost effective not having to create a rom and physical cart. Also they would have real time game play at hand.

  • that is AWESOME!
  • Looks neato! How does the cart fit in?
  • You should mod it for RGB!

Seriously though, nice piece that I would love to have. I would be quite tempted to use it.
  • Nice piece
  • Looks awesome. Was it that clean when you found it?

The best thing about this is the fact it's from the original owner/developer. It was never cleaned but rather stored and very well taken care of. The seller was able to give me the run down on some projects they worked on and the company they developed for. NES development equipment is the hardest to find development equipment for. Reason being is Nintendo never introduced a large scale run of development equipment but rather companies made their own. So most of the equipment was scrapped and a lot of  units were one off.

  • Beautiful piece, can you share what company it came from?
  • LOOOVEEEE IT!! Congrats on the find!!
  • Wow awesome piece, any chance you could post a better picture of the label/tag on the front? I'm curious to see what it says.
  • now that is like a cool piece ....

also, do you have a picture of the label that is stuck on the front of it .. ?
  • Wow! I'd love to know more about this, for so many reasons!
  • Do you have the computer side software too?
  • Really cool piece, grats on picking it up!

Label says "RSP, Inc" which I guess is Riedel Software Productions, Inc.

  • What a neat piece of history! Congrats on the find! Do you have a collection of dev equipment?
  • If I had the money, I'd skip collecting carts and stuff and basically stick to dev equipment. But, that's not possible so I'll just enjoy your photos.

I love this. This is amazing.

JosephLeo nailed it with the text on the front. Added pictures of the title screen on boot up.

  • Very cool!   I think this is actually the first dev kit i've seen regarding NES. Well, i've seen some other stuff too, but it looked home made, like a circuit board with many chips on it, connected to some wooden board/plank.
  • Well done.
  • This is awesome. I have a new item on the top of my wish list. Is there any chance we can see a picture of the insides?
  • Great piece!

So... What game are you going to develop first? Another Batman game for NES would be great, please!
