Caltron 6 in 1 (Brazilian)

So I've looked about the forums and seen a number of posts about this version of the game that answers a lot of questions. However, what I really want to know is that as a collector, is it worth picking up this verison? I'm collecting on a budget as I am sure many of you are. I'd love nothing else then to snag a north Amarican copy but it's really tempting picking one of these up as they tend to be cheaper. I'm looking to collect them all (as in NES games) and I don't mind picking up repoductions and what not for the heavy hitters. So to make this short, what do tall think?

  • Dont buy it just as a placeholder, you'll never be satisfied and would've wasted money and time. If you really think its enough to satisfy you, go for it.

Personally I'd rather just stick to what I'm collecting. If I wanted an NES set, I wouldn't count lickle in place of samson, its just not the same.
  • That's true but I'd never pay 500$ for a Little Samson. Just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a game. I tend to run with a soft cap so I kind of already accepted I'd never own a full collection of original copies of every game. So I am kind of in a weird middle ground as I currently can afford just about any game I'd want but I really can't justify spending that much money and rather stick with my soft cap.
  • 3 on 1? Isn't that missing some games?

I would pick it up as a cool oddity or variant, but not to fill that void left by the absence of the real thing. Plus, the real deal isn't that expensive, it's the myriad sticker that is stupid expensive.
  • lol, my bad. It's been a long day. Yeah I seen some copies going for a decent price... It's still a little over my cap however.
  • At the end of the day, it's your collection and if you want to get this game in place of a North American 6-in-1, and you consider it equivalent, who are we to say?

That being said, I doubt it meets the criteria of most other collectors (whether they are willing to pay for one themselves aside.) Especially since you said you were after a complete set.
  • Again that's a fair assiment. Then again I know I'll never see the likes of a Stadium Events or Nintendo World Championship, so I guess in reality I'd have to say a near complete set?
  • If you don't mind reproductions but for whatever reason "need" to have an NTDEC/Caltron 6-in-1 multicart in your collection, the Brazilian release is probably the cheapest one to get?

The HES real player's pak is probably the cheapest version to get. I doubt they 'optimized' for PAL, seeing as it was freaking HES.

can't believe I missed this. You know Samson is like over 1k now right?
  • Well you already said you don't mind reproductions, I would say most people would consider this more authentic than a repro.. does that help?
  • Yeah I think it does Cradelit. I'm no elitest collector and I don't plan on spending an arm and a leg for the complete set. I'd be happy getting reasonally close.
  • it depends, what you collecting? NES carts for all regions? sure. USA releases? no.

also if you're filling gaps in your "collection" with repros, that's not collecting.
  • I know its super frowned upon around here, but I have no problem filling in gaps with repros. I would never drop the coin that some of these games fetch, but some are really fun to play. Yes, I can and do emulate, but would like to have a physical cart to play as well even if its not original. If I could get a Little Samson for $100, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But yeah, im not dropping 4 figures on a game. Nope.

For $18 more you could buy an Everdrive and have every other game on it too. You could even write "Little Samson" on the label.

Yep cookie cutter argument from everyone on this forum. I have a PSP, a Wii, a tablet, and a PC with every game I could ever want to play. Or, I can buy something I want on my shelf.

I think its cookie-cutter, because buying a repro of a game just because its expensive doesn't make sense. If you are going for a set, the point is to complete the set by getting all the games. A repro of Little Samson would be the same as writing "Little Samson" on the front of a copy of Silent Service. Neither really count towards the set because neither are 'real.' They are just a proxy of the real thing.

On top of that, this proxy cost $30-50, is less functional than an everdrive, and at the end of the day, is just a fake.

I see it like buying a t-shirt "I ran the Boston Marathon" without having even taken a single step.

  • I understand the reasoning, even if it doesn't appeal to me. I like having physical copies on a shelf, and NES repros of famicom/hack/etc that doesn't otherwise exist are a good fit for that. Having one just due to expense doesn't do anything for me.

the flash cart thing is the standard reply because people usually try to rationalize their counterfeits by claiming they just want to play on hardware, which is generally see-through bullshit. rookie isn't using that argument so the flash carts don't really factor in.
  • No one can tell you what is worth collecting for your collection

Unless you collect fake shit, then we will come burn that mother down
