Amazon's use of UPS & USPS
Im not sure when the switch happened, or what is going on, but for several years now all of my Amazon packages have been delivered via Fedex. If it was a sunday deliviery it was USPS. There were never any issues. Everything arrived quick and on time.
This year, however, everything is being sent via UPS who then turns the package over to the USPS. Not once has a package been delivered on time. my Prime account says it will be delivered on X day, and then it doesnt get delivered for another day or 2. This has happened several times this year now. I had to cancel my WiiU BotW order because it was delayed for 3 weeks.
The other day I was sitting in my kitchen and I got an email from Amazon saying that UPS attempted to deliver my package but noone was home. I was sitting right there. Noone came. I checked the tracking # and it was out for deliviery in a different town? Turns out that UPS tried to deliver it to the USPS, but it was patriots day so the USPS was closed? I dont even. . .
Is anyone else having issues with Amazon now? Seems like their speedy delivery has gone to shit this year, at least for me in my area anyways.

Logistics.
You don't have to wait 20 years. Amazon has already made an official delivery with a drone.
REAL STORES SUCK!
Y'know... We came a long way since the 1860's when everything was delivered on horseback.

They do. I needed to buy a specific book for a research paper, so I went to Barnes & Noble. $24.99. Got on Amazon and it was $12 with free prime shipping. Ofcourse it was a day late though.
Granted, with the internet it could be cheaper, and you can shop at anytime, and virtually any country... even at 3am in your underwear. However, even if it's a 2-3 day wait (or more if you're an Ebay looser like me, hahaha), you still gotta WAIT. You've already bought it going off pictures, and even pics are sight-unseen 'till you physically have it in your hands. (Still, the longer you wait, the more it feels like Christmas, eh? lol) If it doesn't work or is defective, you have to spend time, money (shipping, materials, tape, ink, labels, etc.) and gas to ship it back (Not so much if you have a mailperson pick it up at your doorstep, but still)
Retail stores are only in one spot, the prices may or may not be a little higher due to rent overhead, BUT-- when you buy something, it's tangible, it's in your hands right then and there, and you can see the condition BEFORE you buy it. If it doesn't work, you just go back to the store, instant refund or swap. Plus, a better sociable interaction with people during the buying process.
Never has it not.
Yeah, online is convenient, but I do tend to like retail stores a bit better.

Are you saying I have to wear underwear when I online shop at 3am? C'mon I like the additional airflow!
Yeah, online is convenient .......... you can shop at anytime, and virtually any country... even at 3am in your underwear.
You don't need online stores to shop at 3AM in your underwear. There are Wal-Marts all over the country. Open 24 hours, and rarely enforce their pants policy.

Well... maybe for laptop users... those things can get pretty warm. lol

Y'know, living in the south, I would totally have to agree with you.
'Cept it's not just Walmart people run around half naked in. Dang, it's crazy over here!
Edit: Also, was the seller amazon, or a third party? That makes a HUGE diffrence in shipping, sounds more like a third party seller to me.
I didn't know Amazon did surepost, the "UPS who then turns the package over to the USPS". I've been a prime member for amazon for many many years, and get the bulk of my shopping through them. Heck, even my toilet paper is a subscribe and save by them. They've been using UPS as their primary carrier in my area for at least 8 years, with the very rare fedex delivery. Only time fedex is guaranteed is a saturday delivery. Are you a prime member using free shipping?

That is what I was wondering as well, I know the Amazon distribution facility is only a 3-4 hour drive from where I live and that is why I get my stuff so fast regardless of shipping option.
However like you said, if a third party seller it can vary greatly.

I can't speak for the OP, but in my situations, my late packages have always been prime packages. I honestly don't know if they were Amazon or third party, but if it says prime, it's suppoesed to be there in two days (obviously not counting pre-order stuff). If it's going to take 3 days to get to my house, they shouldn't list it as prime. And if they are going to consisitantly take more than 2 days to ship, I might as well cancel my prime subscription. The fact that shipping is free doesn't matter because 99% of the stuff I've bought on Amazon had free shiping anyway. I use prime to get it quicker.

The contract changes hands every year or so. Last year USPS had the contract which resulted in them starting to deliver on Sundays. I'm in the shipping business. from what I could tell or have heard, UPS is mostly handeling Amazon returns while USPS is handling the deliveries. As most of us know USPS is slow as shit, barely gets tracking info updated when you need it, and can give a crap if you have an issue. Gotta love them government jobs man. Luckily, our post men around here are pretty good. i have heard some horror stories though.

As I pay for prime, I buy things thats are eligable for prime shipping which is fulfilled by Amazon. Dont remember that last time I ordered anything that wasnt fulfilled by Amazon using prime shipping.
The only issues I have with Amazon is their Prime crap. They hide a lot of stuff behind Prime, forcing you to get it unless you want to deal with eBay. I've also had packages/items come damaged. Special Edition stuff that's limited to a certain amount so I can't exactly get a replacement! To be fair they're not the worst in this...the worst damage comes from Gamestop...ugh I hate ordering Special Editions from them but in some cases they're the only ones who have items left.
Besides, who cares ups is no different than fed ex.sounds like you are getting a ups cosignment service with usps and not really ups. Usps has contracts with fed ex and ups. Its probably where you live.
So, I had great experiences with Amazon, and here I am on Mario Kart 8 release day with no game. Was supposed to be here by 8pm and I can't even track it. I'm going out of town this weekend and wanted to get an hour or two in tonight, so much for that.
This is what happened to me with Zelda. Both me and my son had a stomach bug on release day. Got up and saw a thread on here saying that BotW WiiU games were delayed on Amazon. I checked mine, and it wasnt set to deliver for 3 weeks. I had to go get pedialight for my son anyways, so I canceled my Amazon order and picked the game up at best buy. Took all my will power not to puke in the store lol I was so nauseous. Amazon ruins lives!
Amazon has dropped the ball so many times with preorders and shipping that I don't even bother with them anymore.
The only time I ever use them is to buy video game art books. Everything else I get on eBay or in a brick and mortar store.

Same here. They pushed 3 of my preorders out to 3 months, and that was enough.

As for Amazon, no problems with them except a recent DVD I wanted on release day to give to my niece. They said I would get it two days after release? I always have gotten preordered games on release day so that seemed odd. Canceled and got it for store pickup in Best Buy the day of release.

As a fellower Mainer (Rockland), i felt your pain. i live in the DC/Baltimore area now. i get things stupid fast. especially with prime now. i've gotten deliveres on sunday as early as 730 am. only a few times it was "not deliverable" even when they pulled up stopped and drove away. i called and bitched about it and they hooked my up since they have GPS trackers and can see the drivers. Amazon - well, " looks like he did show up and leave".
