Movie Music

What film / movie had the best soundtrack, in your opinion?

Maybe something from your childhood that sticks with you? Maybe you never saw the film but saw the soundtrack listings and was sold.

Once again, my stupid golden rule is in play (I need to seriously stop it).

Comments

  • For soundtracks, (as opposed to scores) I liked The Crow, Trainspotting, and Pulp Fiction
  • Three that I have always liked:

    Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis

    Streets of Fire

    Sliver

Honorable mention to Midnight Express for "Chase" (composed/performed by the aforementioned Giorgio Moroder.
  • Conan The Barbarian sound track is just epic.
  • Goodfellas and A Bronx Tale are two off the top of my head
  • star trek2,conan,bttf,rocky,
  • It Follows is the most recent amazing score I can think of.
  • The Fog I thought always had the perfect music for the film.....It isn't overly crazy or anything but it nails the atmosphere and adds a lot to it.

Then again Carpenter did that a lot.
  • Anything by John Williams. Although if you held a gun to my head and forced me to pick one, I'd have to go with Raiders of the Lost Ark. I mean, the theme to Indiana Jones is probably one of THE most recognizable movie themes of all time, right up there with Jaws and Star Wars. (Which, speaking of, second place would definitely go to any of the 7 Star Wars movies he's been a part of.)
  • For pure music, off the top of my head...Lord Of The Rings...any of them. I usually play Elder Scrolls Online with the music off so I can play the soundtrack of LOTRs in the background lol. It fits the game well

Back To The Future has some great songs in it. The Matrix Trilogy has some really great high pumped music in it. Oh and Tron Legacy as well.
  • Office Space.

I'll have to think for a bit about film scores though.
  • Tron: Legacy. I don't even like Daft Punk but that soundtrack was just perfect.
  • Drive

    End of Days

    New Jack City
  • Pretty much the only correct answer here is anything by John Williams
  • Heavy Metal 2000 had a great sound track of exclusives songs.
  • pyscho - best score

    tie for soundtrack -

office space and dazed and confused

Only song I remember is "Wishes" by Coal Chamber but that song is awesome.
  • Rocky IV just epic music
  • I think that the soundtrack for the Star Wars movies is what made me fall in love with them as a kid. The music is just so powerful and emotional and makes the films timeless.

Favorite pieces are the Binary Sunset (basically Luke's theme), The Battle of Hoth, Return of the Jedi, and Into The Trap.
  • Hackers

    Dazed and Confused

    Rocky IV
  • Eddie and the Cruisers, Amadeus, Almost Famous, Superman, Dazed and Confused, Forrest Gump, The Doors, I Am Sam, Into the Wild, and many, many others I can't think of right now.

    Yes sir!  That's the winner.

  • I know I've posted in here before, but I've actually been listening to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack while playing Atari and I've listened to it at least twice today at work. So good.

You need to thank Daft Punk for that.
  • I can't stand them outside of this soundtrack, honestly.
  • Star Wars, Inception, LotR, Castaway, Dances with Wolves, Jurassic Park, The Dark Knight (Batman), Avatar. I'm sure I'm missing some, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. When I was in college I would listen to soundtracks while working on homework.

Their Random Access Memories album got me into them. There's some really awesome songs on that. And then this (Tron) soundtrack helped. I found RAM was about on par with the soundtrack. You might enjoy it. It's a departure from their older stuff and includes more "songs", with well known artists.

I'm not into ALL their music, as some is VERY repetative and just not my style, but they have a lot of songs that I like.
  • I actually bought Random Access Memories around the time it came out a few years ago. Listened to it once and never went back (this was after liking the Tron soundtrack and disliking their older stuff). I ripped it to my computer and sold it to a coworker for $5.

If I remember correctly, some of it was decent but wasn't really my thing.

Edit:  What I really like about the Tron: Legacy soundtrack is the almost 80s style synth mixed with orchestra.  Their old stuff is just super repetitive 80s synth which gets really old to me.  And then RAM was more mixed with pop and funk, right?
  • ... but I suppose these are pretty great too
