Rare beer for NES games

Have you ever traded other goods or services for video games? I found a cool guy locally who collects craft beer and video games. I traded a bottle of Goose Island Bourbon County and a bottle of New Glarus Bourbon R&D for the games below. Felt good to finally check some uncommons off the list!

Rare anything to the right person, I suppose. ;P
  • I know most deals look good after a couple beers, but hot damn that's awesome.

Also, as a side note. One day a copy of Thrilla's Surfari that is only moderately damaged to hell will show up, and it will sell for more than a sealed NWC Gold signed by Mario, and Thor.

man I was thinking the same thing. So does this guy have shelves of beer on display?
  • Damn, those are some nice games on that trade. Can't say I've traded non-gaming related for something else and vice versa.
  • Decent lot for a couple of drinks, that is for sure.
  • I once traded a bottle of crown for a CIB Bible Adventures
  • I don't know about getting rid of booze for games. That is bordering on alcohol abuse.
  • How many games could I get for some Natty Light?
  • Nice work Charles.
  • Cool, I never thought that beer would fetch so much but given how other alcohol types can get incredibly expensive, I guess it isn't unimaginable.

I've traded booze, a tiki mask, CDs/DVDs, graphing calculators (traded in at a re-sell store and bought games), action figures/toys, and LEGOs for games in the past. Most of this was during high school and college but I recently traded away some LEGOs that I've slowly accumulated for a couple of PS1 RPGs a few months ago.
  • I laughed at services.
  • You guys have no idea what the world of "rare beer" is really like. That's fucking awesome though. Guess I might have to buy some stuff my my stores back room and trade it for some games

He has a cellar in his basement; basically a closet full of great beer.

The world of beer collecting is similar to video game collecting. Lots of people are "truck chasers" they follow around the distribution truck on days when rare beer releases and buy the full allotment. They might buy 10 beers for $10 each, but the trade value of each bottle could be $40-$50 (kinda like people reselling the NES Classic). Some beers like Toppling Goliath KBBS are really crazy; a 12oz bottle sells for $200 at the brewery but has a secondary value of $1,000 or so.

  • I feel like if I got into the beer hobby I would just end up dead.
  • We don't allow people to buy up whole allocations. We will put limits on beers if people get ridiculous with it.
  • Nice haul. Though I'll be honest - no idea what the beer was worth  . Was this a negotiation or was he just like "hey, here's a handful of games for that beer?"

A Silent Service with a bad label and a cracked Play Action Football.
  • That's some serious tastebuds he's got for beer lol nice haul on your end though.
  • Do they drink them or keep them sealed? Is there a beer grading authority? Beer is meant to be drank!

An inside tip on a complete MMA for Vita?

You would have all those Old Milwakeeny cans to decorate with though.
  • Beer can be quite expensive, and I'm on the newb side of connoisseur for sure, so I can only imagine what I don't know that I don't know.

Dude, I have a bottle of Bourbon County in the fridge right now! I've been saving it, but I guess I would consider trading it, haha.
  • Yep, the beer world goes deep and can get expensive. It's still in its infamy compared to the wine market, so I think there's a lot of room for prices to keep heading north, even though most beer styles won't keep for as long. Here's my main fridge, and I also have a dedicated beer fridge and a cellar with hundreds of bottles.
  • I once arrived to a deal and the kid (like 13 yr old) was short money. I told him sorry but we would need to take a game out. He then proceeded to give me a nice sized ball of hash. Best deal to date!

Hahaha he probably goes around using them as a currency.

I see that you can clear those sour cream and cheese bag to make more room for beers there! Anything from your trip to Quebec in your beer cellar?
