Monaco Grand Prix for n64?

What's the deal with this game? I'm nearing my full loose collection for the n64 and this game is something of a black sheep. There are hardly any floating around online and the few on Ebay are asking for $20+... some as high as $40. Is it rare? I can't remember if I've ever seen one in the wild either - though I have certainly been looking.

I took a chance on an un-pictured copy on Amazon the other day for $10 in 'acceptable' condition. As I wipe the sweat from my brow, I'm happy to report that is in great condition by my standards. Still, anybody know anything about this game? Did it have low production numbers? etc

  • It was a console choc full of other racing games and it's the F1 game that didn't have licensed cars, teams, and drivers. Americans aren't exactly the #1 fans of F1 racing either. Other F1 games in the US have skewed towards the uncommon side of racing games... Fastest Lap, F1 Pole Position, F1 2001, etc. It also went up against Gran Turismo 2 a few months later... I'm not even a big racing fan and I bought Gran Turismo 2, that game was freakin' huge.
  • It's pretty uncommon. It probably didn't sell a whole bunch during the N64 life cycle.
  • I think, over the last year or so, N64 collecting has reached the point where uncommons are being recognized and jumping in price. I have had duplicates of Monaco GP so I haven't experienced it but it may just be one of the more uncommon of racing games for the system. There arent really any 'Rare' games in the library so you never know what the next Stunt Racer price jump will be...

I agree I found it easily when I completed my 64 collection a few years back.  Stunt Racer was quite hard to find even back then.  Although nothing is rare when compared to the NES there are titles that are much rarer when compared to thier fellow N64 titles.

  • I don't think the cart's too hard to find, but Complete's a bit of a thing, especially because it has a reg card

There's lots of Rare games in the N64 library. Most people consider them some of the best games on the system.

Your opinion isn't fact and neither is theirs, so get over it.

My goodness, sometimes you guys frustrate me to no end. This whole "arguing over petty crap" thing, gets so very old.

  • We used to get tons of these in, especially when N64 was in the Dead Zone during the 2000s. These days we don't see it nearly as often.

I apologize if this was directed at me.  I thought it was a joke, that has been made on NA before, referring to the company Rare that made games and not the term to describe video games that are hard to find. It's a quirky joke that repeatedly strikes my dry sense of humor.

  • Wow that one went right over their head.

I'm so sorry, that was completely my bad. It gets so very tiring seeing posts criticizing the N64 library of games, so I assumed that your post was of that nature as well.
