Restore 3DO game boxes?

I won an auction for two CIB John Madden footballs for the 3DO knowing they weren't perfect.  My issue was I couldn't tell how dirty they were but I was mainly just trying to get at least one look decent with all the materials.  Hah.  I'm ok with it since they were cheap but I'd love to see about trying to make these look their best.  It does look like both have at least a small amount of water damage?

Any ideas?  Pictures attached.

  • If you care about condition, you're better off just buying better copies of this common title. It's really not worth the trouble. But at a minimum, use some Goo Gone to remove the stickers and writing. And if you can remove the cardboard from the plastic without damaging it, try spraying it with a little bit of water to soften it up, then sandwich it between some wax paper and put a stack of heavy books on top of it to flatten it out. But it's not going to look even remotely new.

Thanks for the tip on how to flatten it!  Will the water damage the cardboard any further?  What about cleaning off the dirt?  Any solutions that won't damage the cardboard that can brighten that part up a bit?

While this may be a John Madden football game it isn't exactly common since it is the 3DO we're talking about.  Plus I got 2 CIBs for the price of one.     I was more concerned with getting the discs in pristine shape and having all of the included materials inside the box than the box condition.  Especially if I decide to use www.thecoverproject.net to print out some inserts for DVD cases on the games that I'll get that are disc only or only in CD jewel cases.  If I can make the boxes just a little cleaner then the effort was worth it if not no worries I got what I paid for.

  • You can also get some 3DO box protectors. If you stick them in those it will help retain their "normal" shape, and they will also look in better condition than they are.
  • Anyone know a good place to get 3do box protectors? I see a listing on ebay but rather not spend $2 each.

That's as good as you're going to get. Even the biggest site that carried them no longer does. Nobody is currently producing more as far as I know.

I know and it is sad.  I missed out getting some in bulk from that seller.

  • I would be very cautious about touching 3do boxes with water. I've had mold issues with more than one.
