I think the bigger factor is there are so many people doing exactly what you posted about elsewhere online. Everywhere you look online these days people are plugging their latest project or asking for money through GFM when they are in a tough place. If I donated $1 to every GFM page I see online I'd be broke by weeks end. It's tough when it's stuff that means a lot to you personally like your music or your families situation and isn't responded to as you expected.
Perhaps, given that to you're an older member, you do have a sense of "family" when it comes to the NA forums. But honestly, even since I joined in 2011, most every member that interacts on a daily basis is a "new" face. Many of the people that you originally befriended / were close to likely don't frequent anymore, or at least don't post regularly. Hell, I hadn't seen your avatar in forever prior to seeing this thread!
At this time, you ask your "community" for help, but in a lot of ways, you're really asking a bunch of "strangers" for help. It sucks, but time does that.
The community is different now, there has been turnover and some old guys stop posting while newcomers fill their shoes. Naturally those newcomers won't know you if you haven't posted much.
We support those in the community in times of need, but I personally don't donate to Gofundme's unless I know the person well or the situation is extremely traumatic. Last two I donated to were JosephLeo (son passed away in sleep) and a co-worker of mine who's 4 year old daughter has been battling cancer for over a year. He's made the 2 hour drives each way to Children's Hospital more times than I can count, sometimes in the middle of the night after rushing to the local ER. Those are some life altering events.
While unemployment or natural disasters can be extremely devastating, you can always replace physical things. If a good friend of mine was going through it I'd help them out, but I don't have money to contribute towards all the random internet people I know. I have my own bills and family to care for, and no one should EVER be disappointed when others do not have funds to contribute to their cause. They should be absolutely THANKFUL for anything they receive instead of criticizing others.
While Del01 is right about the community changing I am with Pheidian, This is generally where I go when I want to chat it up with fellow collectors since I dont get the oppertunity to nerd out locally much anymore.
It was easier 6-7yrs ago to let go of a $5-10 game and ship it to a forum buddy just for giving you a winky face , Since the big boom in the Retro Market its not so easy to let go of a $30-40 game and do the same. (From my perspective)
If you step back and look at the Big Picture Nintendoage is still a Great Community. Yeah, Things arent as cheap anymore, Deals are hard to be had. But atleast If you drop a Thread about some 20-30yr old "Object" We will get you a freaking blueprint with detailed NINTENDO FOR YOUR EYES ONLY Information on it from an awesome community within only a matter of Hours or Minutes. We still scratch each others backs, Share Knowledge and help each other out. I cant say the same for PlaystationAge... *Cough*
Oh yeah and you cant forget we still have JoneBone :
Also think the age base of NA has changed. The long term members are getting older and the new comers tend to be early 20s and younger. No need for excuses but trying to help make sense of why things are the way they are. Everyone goes through shit and not everyone reaches out for help. Think breaking down what happen and if the member was an active one would have gotten more traction. The fact he's not active and a gofund page was tossed out didn't strike any cords with members who could help.
It's very impressive to finish a project- and then go through the process of publication- well done!
I personally don't do a lot of "everything else" (mostly cause it's a pointless semantic jone/arch argument over tone or some logical debate club nonsense that doesn't contribute to the hobby), but khan is right: keep it positive, give us the info, and let the chips fall where they may.
I think part of the problem is the gofundme link is buried a couple posts down in that thread. Del, you would've had better luck updating the initial post and title that a gofundme had been started.

also, play metroid!!!
You and your Metroid... More like play The Incident!
Are you disappointed in the community? Or are you disappointed that people didn't contribute funds to your two recent threads? I ask this not to be sarcastic or insinuate you are greedy but to try to help with perspective. In both the thread about your album and the thread about your brother, people responded with messages of support - congratulations for the album and well-wishes for your brother. I suppose those could be viewed as empty words, but not for the people who took the time to respond. I try to stay on top of threads around here but I have a lot going on and have simply overlooked those two. I try to be supportive as much as possible, and I have given financially to causes both from people on here I know well, and to complete 'strangers' with whom I have no connection and just wanted to help out. And when I don't support financially, I try to be supportive in other ways if at all possible. But it isn't about me and that's not my point.
If you want to know about this community - and this thread seems to be directly asking about this community, then please read the following thread - not only for answers to your question but also for perspective:
Threads like the above are continual reminders for me, not only about what is important in life and how we should try to be thankful for what we have and not angry about what we don't, but also great reminders about how supportive this community is. We are continually reaching out to others and helping build each other up when we are down. I have seen this time and time again. I have supported others and seen support on here for people who were robbed, people whose houses caught on fire, people who have lost loved ones - children, parents, friends, and then just general messages of support and answering questions that have NOTHING to do with video games at all. And this isn't all just what happened years and years ago. Some of these have been recent and ongoing.
Edit: I try to look for the good in things when I can - and I think there is still something special about this place. Maybe it isn't the way it used to be, as it has grown and people have moved on, but the sense of community and friendship is still here and strong, in my opinion.
A mixture of frustration and nostalgia is probably the best descriptor.
Del, I get that you're frustrated that more help didn't come RSA's way. Good discussion has evolved; I just think that the title was the wrong way to go about it (and honestly injecting your recording woes piles on to the "wrong way").
Makes sense. I personally Never can remember any of RSA's posts (still sorry to see about him having to go through this stuff) and only recognize Del from the sellers forum.
Hopefully this opened up some eyes for del's record and RSA's GFM
I'll be honest OP i recognise your avatar but this thread is probably the second activity that I've seen from you, like a few others I like some music but im not a fanatic and I have my paticular things I like thus I probably looked over your album thread which I am sure is awesome and was well worth your time putting together but I'm not here for music purchases or awareness.
As for your friends unfortunate situation I did see the post and I had no clue at all whom he was but it did not mean I didn't care nor felt bad for him and his family i don't find any pleasure in anyones misfortunes from being attacked by shelving up to loss of a family member and if I am able to help I will but a lot of times all I can do is keep them in thoughts and hope along with them that things get better soon.
Yes things have changed a lot and will continue to change here at NA and really the only ones I flat out recognise are though consistent activiity on the forums or homebrew scenes. There isn't one of you chuckeheads I know personally off these forums but I come on here and it's like I know mostly who's who and feel like I am at my cyber home away from home. Hell I was actually suprised and rather pleased that I was missed over my last hiatus. and most of the time I am here I'm terrorizing threads and members.
Hey yall. I've had a good night sleep and yes my emotions had the best of me. I thank all of you for your patience and yeah it was actually cool to see that I didn't get lynched.
I'm glad to see many old school faces still around and I can understand all the reasoning here as to why things got overlooked.
It's nice to know people still help one another out around here sometimes even though we might have outgrown family size manageability. To those that know me and still like me. Thanks for understanding . To those that don't .. Yall better axe somebody jk
You seem like a pretty cool dude, and I can understand why you may have been disappointed. Maybe if you hangout a bit some of us newbs will take the time to get to know you
This would be like driving back to the town you moved away from 25 years ago and then being pissed that everyone doesn't know you like you used to. This is a big place, and people change their usernames so much you can barely tell who is who as it is. I've been here 4 years and never seen you post before.
This isn't the same community it was when I joined or lurked. Members took advantage of that attitude and saw others as suckers with money. The result was people feeling used for stuff that was under developed, over hyped or falsely limited.
Guy you have 1300 posts in like 7 years of being here.
I didn't even recognize your avatar or name and since you just about never post I had no idea who you even were. I wouldn't really call you active here......
And like jone said above. We can't give to every single person who needs money with a GoFundMe. We only have so much money ourselves. I know I have seen a Ton of instances where people rallied for someone here though so to say this place has changed is a bogus and unfair claim because someone didn't buy your CD.
On that note be grateful for every dime you get because no one is obligated to give you anything for any reason. I'm sorry to come off callous but this whole thread came off entitled.
You seem like a pretty cool dude, and I can understand why you may have been disappointed. Maybe if you hangout a bit some of us newbs will take the time to get to know you
This was my line of thinking also. When I joined in 2011, it seemed like the regular posters were a lot smaller group. There's been a lot of turnover and new members so that could have something to do with it. I'm happy to help out anyone when I can even if they are a total stranger, but things have been rough on my end over the past year so I'm sure people just not being able to help is a factor as well.
This isn't the same community it was when I joined or lurked. Members took advantage of that attitude and saw others as suckers with money. The result was people feeling used for stuff that was under developed, over hyped or falsely limited.
Examples? Which stuff was under development, over hyped, or falsely limited?
I see comments like your pop up occasionally on the forum, and being myself a relatively newer member (since just about 3 years), selling my game designer work to other members, I often wonder if what gets criticized is also the "new wave" (not coming from collectors) into the homebrew niche market.
This would be a fair opinion, which I would respect, and it would not make me angry or anything to quit proposing new NES games to people; I do like to design NES games. I do consider it a "job", and I do make some money out of it (edit: and this it is written into my tax papers).
If I sell my work to someone adult and perfectly aware of what he/she is buying, who is accepting the deal, such work can be judged poor or whatever by others, this is fair criticism, and someone will like, and someone else will not like what I design: fair enough! Perfectly acceptable.
I like my work to be appreciated, I am fine with my work being criticized, as long as it is about the quality, style, or whatever other attribute concerning my work.
And I wish that, if that feeling of some members taking advantage was diffused within a wide chunk of the community, and was also about what I do, the community had the braveness to state it clearly.
I do have moral integrity and I do care about it; so, the day that I discover that the morality of my activity here is put in question by the community, I mean if statements such: Members took advantage would include also the activity I do and what I sell here, it is the day I quit designing games.
And, that day, I will say thank you to who makes me understand it clearly. Because, honestly, I am pretty confused about the issue at the moment, and this is a bothering incertitude that I have since a while now, because of enigmatic posts like yours.
Edit II: and, just to make sure: I am not angry at such posts, I am concerned by such posts, wondering if they point the finger also towards what I do, putting it into question.
I hope that my English is good enough to express myself correctly and precisely here.
This isn't the same community it was when I joined or lurked. Members took advantage of that attitude and saw others as suckers with money. The result was people feeling used for stuff that was under developed, over hyped or falsely limited.

I'd be surprised if he's referring to actual homebrew development.
Rather, there was a period where there were TONS of reproduction/bootlegs being made with "limited edition" boxes and all kinds of other things.
For homebrew, I always thought it was well understood that the limited editions were pretty much the only thing that made the releases financially worthwhile for the developers.
And as long as there were enough standard release copies to meet gamer demand, people didn't have anything to complain about.

There was definitely a glut of that for a while. I'm glad to see that trend over with; I think that really took focus away from the things homebrewers were doing.

Yep Arch hit it on the head. Timewalk closing shop and RetroZone discontinuing reproductions didn't help the frenzy.

Don't expect anything from anyone and you won't get disappointed...
Having faith in people will always lead to disappointment... You can be hopeful without expecting anything and in the end it makes thing easier.
Because people will let you down, maybe not every time but most of the time...
