I'm very disapointed with this community right now.

  • Don't know the OP or the guy OP mentioned...and I'm on SSI so yeah...two good reasons not to give my money to a rando.

    No offense.

It isn't easy out there...I'm struggling to get by every month, so I know. Hopefully whomever he is, he gets luck on his side.

  • I am disappointed with the amount of drunk the beers I had purchased gave me, I guess it is my fault though.
  • Had I known you had music up on NA I would be at least gave it a listen. It sucks to hear about your friends situation. No one disserves to have to deal with that, especially when so many assistance programs are still available. Has his situation improved ?

NintendoAge has always had a decent community with its contests, secret Santa and there is constantly content. I know that sometimes life gets discouraging and wish it could change (I made a thread for my wife's custom doll business here w a zelda doll she made that got 1 view). Maybe those reasons were the kind no one had control of (bad timing, flooded by fs threads etc).

Still lots of cool peeps around here. I miss old school chat and the Del show, haven't popped in for awhile, probably since the last time BA stopped over.

The tale tells he was pouring beer right through his a-hole = drunk guaranteed!

  • Yeah sorry I'm new and have no idea who you are. I saw the guy with the flooded basement but he didn't ask about cash for a kick starter or anything like that and I had no idea you had a album release ( I don't really listen to much music anymore bit for 1 dollar US I would give that to a bum on the street let alone an NA member if anything to increase the number of downloads to foster interest for those who do.
  • There's good people here, sometimes threads just fall through the cracks.

Hate to say it, but true charity is giving without expecting anything in return.
  • Nintendo Age is awesome. Although it sometimes goes against me to say this, it is true.

I remember NA before it was created, was on the list to order a Garage Cart (but backed out at the last moment, due to being a poor kid), and had even offered to help Dain (Giskard) with some scans for the database, years gone by. I don't remember if I ever scanned anything or not, maybe a Smurfs box, lol.

Signed up for NA in January 2008, then (from my memory) was mostly absent until around 2011, when my interest in gaming resurfaced, stronger than ever. 2008 was a bad year, I was severely depressed, and I don't remember much at all from it.

When I first revisited NA, I acted like a jerk. For one reason, I was frustrated as I had a huge knowledge of Nintendo stuff, yet I (and my previous contributions) had been largely forgotten by the community. Then there was the whole repro game thing, I had joined at just around the time repros started becoming the rage, and I got sick and tired of seeing local indie / unlicensed programmers' works getting ripped off and sold as repros, by greedy repro makers. In all fairness, part of this frustration was because I felt these repros lowered the value on the original (imported) carts I was trying to sell, but it was also about respect, and I hold those programmers in high regards. So I was antagonistic, did some really douchey stuff like bidding $0.10 or something like that on one of KHAN's homebrew games. But then SoleGooseProductions had messaged me, and we had a long chat about various things, and he really opened my eyes to a lot, and although we do not know each other overly well, I consider him a friend, and someone I am always excited to hear from, when we exchange PMs.

From that point on I changed my attitude on NA, and aside from an occassional drunken post, have been trying to make a lot of good contributions. I also contributed a donation to Joseph during his tragedy, and when participating in the Secret Santas, I always tried to be overly generous.

I don't expect freebies and handouts, but over my time here, I have experienced the NA generosity time and time again. Someone had sent me some prototypes, another kind person sent my brother with autism(who doesn't even participate here... I worry if he has thick enough skin or not, lol) a mint Mega Man figure, since that is my brother's favorite game series. More recently, I had made a post about cleaning my apartment and taking my Mario Kart toys into work (I work in a school), and then having my students race them and play with them, and another generous member messaged me and had sent me a few racers he had picked up, donated to these kids as well.

I'm in the process of cleaning the apartment again, and I have a lot of crap I want to get rid of. For sure, some of it I hope to send to interested parties here on NA, just passing on the generosity, rather then seeing it end up in the garbage.

I agree Del, community is important. Some are in it for the money, some are in it just for the info, nothing wrong with that. At the same time, those that contribute in other ways, word quickly gets spread around.

On another note, i listened to a few of the songs, I'll listen to the rest later. I like the music as a whole, the vocals are not my favorite but are not bad either. I never played a record in my life, and I shudder as to how much it would cost to send something like that to Taiwan, but I am also a musician, and love this sort of thing. I'll check it out more later, if it is reasonable, maybe I can get one.

friendship, community and support. I've seen unbelievable things happen here to help people in need.

Recently I posted about my bands album that we released. I know this is not a music forum but I'm sure a few of you listen to music and to my knowledge not one NA member downloaded it. I wouldn't expect anyone to purchase the Vinyl even though that was the goal of the project but man I thought a few of you would at least check it out for a buck a song Canadian. Oh well. I don't really give a shit if you support my music or not. There's always somehting more inportant to support and I'm not a charity.

But then our Brother Shannon (RSA2000)

Has a flood. Fucking 8 foot of water. He's getting married in 10 days and is having to stay in a hotel and travel back and forth trying to rescue his shit.

He had to hold his hand out and ask for help and that's not easy to do. So i post the story and a link to his gofundme and you know what $0 raised for our brother Shan from our NA family   I'm hitting the food banks up in the past couple months myself but I still sent $35 american.

I'm not sure who is still here and what this place is all about anymore

I'm confused by this.. are you saying that YOU didn't donate anything either? Cause it sounds like you may need to take a long look in a mirror and start the dissapointment from there.

The sentence right after the part you bolded suggests that he donated $35

smh boy did I ever miss that.. Thanks

Also as other people here have probably already stated (did not go back and look) most people do not like to donate to things like this... yeah it sucks but its the truth.

If its for digging a random hole just for the herp derps then yeah people go nuts and send money, but when its to actually help out its much harder to make people care.

I really aprreciate you taking the time. As I've folowed up on in the thread I understand how things went the way they did. I did not chage the thread or anything I had writen but since I was feeling less emotional about it all I'd certainly wished I'd went about it differently. I was feeling like a bit of an ass but the thread trurned out to be a really great discussion and helped me come around to not feeling so bad about what I'd come home too. You sharing about how you were antagonistic and still turned it around made me feel a bit better knowing that people forgive if anyone is upset with things at the time.

Hey if they forgot how awesome I was then they will forget how I got a little upset too.

I also reconnected with some cool folks on here that I was wondering about.

    Thanks

  • Depending on one forum is never a good idea; if you're marketing creative work maybe try casting a larger net?
  • Sadly communities on forums change and not always for the best. I was on a custom action figure forum that made it on G4's Attack of the show and suddenly we were flooded with scammers and people begging for handouts. In the end most everyone over 25 left the site and the owner turned it into a glorified ebay forum. Had the same happen on a movie prop forum, when I joined i had to sign up and wait 6 months as they only let people in once a year. Then the owner saw dollar signs and did away with that and the quality of the projects vanished, we had rip off artists come in, we lost people who had been with the site since the start and it got flooded by cosplayers. We can only do so much to keep forum communities the way we like them but unless you go and personally okay every member things are going to change.

You definitely have my agreement vote on people begging. They are subjects tough to be patient with: I mean, do, offer, propose, something you put efforts into, instead of begging, asking, whining, being lazy, and such similar attitudes.

Instead, I will disagree on cosplayers. I know several cosplayers, and I must say that there are few not so cool, but also many cool guys and women within them, also excellent artists in several fields, from theater recitation, to music, and such!

  • In response to OP's original post:

I'm not saying this to be a douche, but never, ever expect people to give a shit about your music. I was in bands for twelve years; several signed, funded, and well-promoted bands with a budget - and nobody gave a shit. It's hard enough getting people out to shows in 2017, let alone download your stuff (regardless of whether it's free/for a small fee). This is just the reality, my man.

    With that said...

The community here has definitely evolved/devolved, depending on your perspective. I've seen some insane support on here for things. It just might be a low point. The economy is always an easy excuse, but I tend to think it gets more complex than just said explanation.

I'll be back later when I have more time

  • Yeah... I'm sure we've all had some low ass times in our lives. An most of us won't even bother sharing them with complete strangers on a message board. Don't get me wrong the community here is pretty damn cool and I seen members do really nice things for other members but most of us are just faceless strangers whom all have a common interest. An I'm sure there were people who felt bad for your friends and couldn't help. It happens.

Shit, I've spent two years in a legal battle with my job over a nasty injury. Had to do the food bank and rely on peoples kindness to get by. It's not fun being on the edge but it happens and those closest aided me. Never even though I mention it here... Anyhow, these people here are good but they can't be the source of a aid every time something goes down in our lives.

As for your band, that's cool you have a band but some people may just not be interested or they can't download anything at the moment. I don't think anyone is here to diss you.

With respect to your friend, that's terrible and kind of embarrassing that no one donated. I know he set up a gofundme , but I would have tried telling more of his story and raising money on NA thru PayPal rather than just linking a gofundme; I know I'll help fund a need on NA but something that asks me to go offsite for someone I didn't realize was a member got skipped over.

I'll be happy to send 50 bucks to his PayPal or yours. Can you post the details into the OP ? Give people a reason to care, and make it easy for them to help, would be my 2 cents. Good luck to your friend, that kind of flooding must be awful.

You're squeaking more loudly now, and you have more people's attention, so let's use this opportunity to get your friend some help. Who's with me?

    Hey Del,

This thread is all over the place but I'm not sure I got an answer to this.    The gofundme part turned me off - I don't want to sign up for yet another site.   If you want to pm me your paypal details or his I can give that 50 bucks for the cause that I promised above.
