price of repros, hiking authentics?
i notice repros being made and sold for $40-$50 games. i notice the game (authentics) starting to creep into the $60 range.
if people are willing to pay $35 for a repro of a $40-$50 game, it might drive the price of authentics up.
what do you think?

i see youve noticed it too
$40-50 for a fake is pretty crazy
im not real good with writing. what i meant was $35 for a repro of a game that sells for $40-$50
rotfl you damn right! "fuck, ill pretend to read it" lmao!
your no better than me toxie
It's an interesting thought. People might be seeing fakes, decided not to fuck with that shit, and just paying the high bins because it is authentic. I dunno, just thinking out loud here
i noticed two auctions end areound $55 + shipping on a game tgat has run $40-$45.
repros of said game selling for $35.
idk. maybe coincidence...
Game examples? Im guessing they're bigger more popular titles like a Super Metroid or something. I dont see people making repros of Shatterhand
TMNT 4 and Castlevania 4 come to mind as popular ones

theese^ i didnt want to name any because "hype thread" for my own gain.
but its seems like people are willing to pay $25- $35 for a repro, when an authentic version, runs around $45.
anywho, more on topic. are far as buyers go I would think it would drive price down because people are wary to spend their money when they might get duped. However, sellers COULD up prices and use the whole "its genuine not a repro so its worth more than those repro carts pay for the peace of mind you have a genuine cart" thing so many other retailers use when knockoffs start appearing. Which in turn could drive up the price of repros since knockoff makers will see the price rise and say "ooooh now i can charge MORE" then genuine sellers raise it more.... you see where i'm going with this.
Now, I do believe that plays a large part in the natural progression and rise of game prices. That's my point though. Fakes get better, so they cost more, which drives prices of the real thing, which in turn means the fakes can cost more and get better. Cycle of any semi-enclosed economic ecosystem. That and inflation. Prices will rise because it costs more to live/make a living [or even money on the side] for this stuff. Short answer, yes I do believe that repros play SOME part in rising prices of genuine articles, but not the only part.

This whole issue is why I stay away from carts. The only ones I have interest in are genesis. repros can be tough to spot and cost you money. Yea, I know that "seasoned experts" can spot them all the time, but I'm not super human. hah.
Super human?! Its not hard, jebus! Just ask to check the PCB. Now if you were talking a fake box, thats much tougher or sealed games (YUCK) but its not hard at all, just do a hair of research and educate yourself. It'll go a long way. The info is out there.

Seals arent that hard. First step is check for a horizontal or vertical seam on the back, Second step is check if the box has any wear under the wrap.
Boxes are tougher, but you can compare them to other copy's online. Some of the fakes are really good. If I really am not sure I check it with a printers loupe and compare to a legit box

this was my thought. i didnt realize i needed to spell it out for the rest, so thanks for making the point
"people buying a repro for $30 my authentic worth at least $50"

yea that's what I was going for. you see that all the time across numerous markets. It's an incredibly common practice to justify charging more.
