    How did people respond?

I wonder. I mean, if you just want a wall of empty boxes so what?
  • I can't believe I read this whole thread. I need a damn drink.
  • I wish you guys could see the expression on my face the moment before I just started typing. I'm not sure there's an English word to describe it.

     ?

Y'know Trev, that's actually not far off the mark.

  • Guys....I admitted it was ridiculous from the start. I think you're going too hard here.

And I wasn't being fully serious either.

People collect stamps and baseball cards and other junk that has no function either.

If I ever did it, I would only do it because I like the art. I know it's expensive, and I wouldn't "brag" to anyone because there's nothing to brag about.

Plus, I think it would give someone incentive to actually complete their collection. The boxes are fully ready for the game...why not go after it?
  • Lol other junk that has no function?

No when they are collecting baseball cards they are collecting BASEBALL CARDS. Not binders with "1967 Tops" written on the front

Your "idea" was collecting generic cases not games
  • I like the label art, but on the cartridge label. I have no interest in CIB or any sort of box for the games. They look fine on their own.
  • Cheapest way to collect was to buy them 20 years ago when nobody cared about them, and kept them instead of selling them off to buy ramen for your dorm room or to take women out just to have them dump you a week later.
  • Anyone know where I can find a flux capacitor? I wanna go back in time and delete this thread.

While I'm at it I might go back to 1999 and buy a full NES/SNES collection. Who's coming with me?

Oh don't worry, much, much sillier threads pop up.  Just laugh it off

In fact I'm surprised DQ hasn't made a silliest thread poll...

I don't but I can print one out.

  • Man, half this thread sounds almost as elitist as a neo-geo forum post. If i went to someones house and saw printouts of this stuff on the walls, as long as it was done well, i'd probably enjoy it and think it looks cool. If he tried to pass it off as real, that would be weird and awkward, but as long as he enjoyed it, who cares what he puts on the wall. It's one thing to not be into what someone else is into, and another to make fun of them. Likely if you were to show someone else, they aren't going to give a crap about your "collection" anyway, and you can explain why you're into the look, and move on.

There will still be game collector problems to complain about if you go back in time.

"I've found this uncommon game called Stadium Events at Funcoland for $0.29 but no one cares because the real holy grail is Chase the Chuck Wagon"

"What's the next big spike and why is it Tengen Tetris?"

"DreamTR is buying all the NWCs, I can't find one anywhere"

Oh cmon, no one said he couldnt, people are expressing their valid opinion on it just like you just did.

as long as he doesnt call it his nes/snes collection or game collection fine. Because its not a game collection. Its a generic case collection. Well i guess he can, but its fair game to express an opinion. The thing is he posed it from the start as a cheap way for a conplete "game collection"

he is allowed to do what he wants, but people on a public forum are allowed to express an opinion of how dumb it sounds when asked, or their opinion on the matter.

Or anything posted by tubeway. Have you seen his threads?

I got the sense PatrickM was desperate to beat as many games as possible, but wanted to rationalize any he couldn't beat as "unplayable."

I just read his slippery Playstation thread.  That sort of absurdity is right up my alley actually

PatrickM......My God, I got into it a few times with him over the whole emulator, practice bullshit etc.

This is going to sound completely ridiculous, but why not do the following?

If you genuinely enjoy the look of box cover arts, why not?

OP:  far as I can tell you've been here one day and have already started two threads that complain about prices.    It seems like you like collecting but you find it too expensive.    That's fine, but where the thread jumped the shark is when you try spin having empty cases (nothing more than literally pretending you do have them all) with appreciating the art.

If you want to collect games, collect them, if you want to have an everdrive, do that, if you want to appreciate the art do that.   But make no mistake, a bunch of empty fake cases in your room is hella ghetto   How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

Its like stuffing a sock down your pants and saying it's  'because you appreciate the feel of the cotton fibres.'

+1 for the greatest analogy possible for this situation.

    +2 that was fucking hilarious
  • Here's what no one else seems to have mentioned... if these UGCs are on a shelf, like a normal collection, and he likes the box art...

Does he really just like the spine art? He'd have a non-collection collection that he couldn't even see! At least all the poster ideas, you'd be able to actually see the box art!

Are they all going to be facing out and taking a shit ton of wall space? That would be an insane amount of area to cover.
