Power Glove Collector's Case
Does anyone know or have any other information on the black Power Glove collector's case? I know Pat the NES Punk has one, and I think he just says it's the "rare" Power Glove case. Also I know a few others have one that are big YouTube personalities(AVGN may have mentioned it), but I can't find anything solid on it's history. Maybe I just suck at Google.
I did find something from an old article that seemed to suggest there was a collector/deluxe case that Toys R Us had that came out very late for the Power Glove. So possibly a TRU exclusive? Here are pics of the case and if you google image search Power Glove Collector case you find more:
It's floated on here before but usually just people asking how much it is, what it's worth, etc. I really want to know the history, when it was released, what it was for, was it official, etc?
I also think it came with Super Gloveball which wasn't released until very late into the Power Glove's life so it makes sense it would be at the tail end of it's availability. I even emailed the Gaming Historian because he did a video on the glove recently but didn't talk about that case and I'm waiting on a response.
Also there's a rumor it had, or some Power Gloves had a white fabric glove to go with the Power Glove, I don't know if that is tied to this or not.

Not much to say. It was for rentals, if you wanted to try out a power glove without buying it, you go to a rental shop and it comes in the case
Interesting, that's the first I've heard that it's a rental. Was it something only places like Blockbuster had? It seems strange it was different then their normal rental cases at the time and doesn't have their stickers/logos plastered all over the ones I've seen.

I could be wrong. Now that I'm looking it up I can't find anything either
Search "Power glove travel case" .... may help the cause. There are a few websites talking about it (older posts either way), but maybe you can find some more info through that search. Seem to be a harder to find item, but there is info out there. Many seem to have sold around the $100 mark earlier this decade
I don't think it was a rental.

Thanks, I'll check that too! I have found a little more searching for that. It seems Travel case, Collector Case, and Deluxe Case bring the most results. It seems really similar in build quality to the early Nintendo Vinyl and Alligator skin game carrying cases.

Yeah, report back if you find some good info!! Seems to fit with the old style of cheap vinyl Nintendo loved back then

Will do! I just found a picture of one with the manuals in plastic and the glove in plastic. That makes me think it may have been a bundle of some sort maybe at the time of release of Super Glove Ball since the glove had been discontinued by then or someone else added it to a bag but why do that and have to find one that fits....
Ever tried looking through the 1989, 90, or 91 Mattel "Boys Toys" catalogues? I could see this being something you'd mail in for before I'd believe that these were actually on retail shelves.
I thought about that too and found this site! wishbookweb.com but no luck yet. You can even search them. This could get tedious... it does have that Nintendo storage cart with Mario on it I've seen a few times.

Yes! Any info? Were you just trying to collect several of them?

I was gonna collect as many as I could. The bad ones people wanted too much money. They came up so rarely I would lose out most of the time. As for info, I've heard many things from traveling salesman to tournament winning prize.
And for the left or right hand, I suppose if you flipped it upside down the left would fit lol.
Do they accommodate both the left and right-handed versions of the glove?
There was never a left handed version. The original developers and designers also confirmed.

Well, what about the girls version with the large controller pad? That would need a slightly different case, right?
I don't think it was a rental.

Well I found some more info, one of the guys working on a documentary coming out later this year called The Power of Glove http://thepowerofglove.com/ sent me some information. He said they've come across this case/information on it as they've researched and that it appears to be a sales sample case. So basically a rep from Mattel would have one of these, take them to a retailer to pitch the Power Glove and encourage it being sold in the store. Given the amount that sold and how fast these were discontinued it makes sense that there weren't a ton of these out there. However, there was a lot of hype for them way before they were released so maybe these were early models to generate hype too. It would be nice to find more information but it still is quite hard to find information on.

Should be interesting to see what comes of this stand-alone documentary. The Gaming Historian does such a thorough and detailed job of covering bits of gaming history, but just puts his videos on Youtube, that it makes this concept seem... kind of pretentious.
Well mine came in and wow! I love it! This thing looks basically unused. Especially the sensor bars, the glove was really stiff and fresh. I didn't realize how huge the case is so I pictured with the large glove for scale.
