Who has stopped hunting for games in the wild?

That is a great system and all you need is a little bit of imagination, ton's of great game's to play.
  • Oh yeah, I absolutely love it. I had one as a kid and now I'm 'rediscovering' it. I did have a plug and play as well.   But I'm totally loving getting 2600 games. It's mostly from NA, though.
  • Retro games in New Zealand? Don't make me laugh. Quite literally the three thrift shops I used to go to have the same disk only of PS2 FIFA games, that have been sitting there for well over a year now.

Online is stupid now, too. My favorite stuff to collect (boxed GBC and GBA,) are now too much for me to do. I can't justify paying $50+ for a boxed game. I might if I had a full time job, but at 16, that is too much money.

Thankfully, I've started collecting modern games exclusively now, and the deals online are much, much better and more abundant. Finding Sonic Generations on 3DS for 10 dollars complete? Yes please!
  • I still look when I can. I am able to get solid prices on things if my timing is right. I actually stumbled into an Action 53 Vol. 2 CIB with a small lot of CIB NES recently for $30, roughly $50 cheaper than buying from INL as a Canadian. Grabbed a CIB Dragon Strike for $40 too. I don't expect to find stuff for "give away" prices any more, but if I can get deals like that vs. buying the same items online, then to me it's worth a look.

Modern stuff can be found cheaply and traded for good credit at a local shop, however lately it has been tougher. I will ride that wave as long as I can. The retro you might find there for $10 worth of modern trade fodder can be worth it.

With our dollar tanking, and shipping costs so high, it's hard not to want to try and pull whatever you can locally.
  • I don't hunt in the wild anymore. They either want eBay prices or they're resellers looking for a sucker. Every once in a blue moon you'll find that one thrift shop or the old lady who's grandkids had Nintendo stuff in the attic. Totally like hunting for a needle in a haystack.... I'd rather suck it up and take a hit on eBay or Etsy.
  • I still hit yard sales but I don't do it with games in mind anymore seems like its been years finding anything game related in the wild and if I do its usually common fodder like xbox360 sports shit or the like. Way to many flea market resellers and horders here so any mention of games usually are long gone before the sale starts.
  • I stopped going to yard sales years ago. People really don't have any retro games at yard sales nowadays but when they did and advertised they did you got people there an hour to 30 minutes earlier looking at the stuff (resellers). It wasn't worth my time or gas. I have been going to flea markets, swap meets and retro stores but everything is overpriced and way more than Ebay. It's not the same as 15 to 20 years ago. People have caught onto values and are charging double if not triple what games are worth. Super Mario Bros. 3 at a flea market somebody wanted $25.

Funny, I stopped today at 4 garage sales, just because I was feeling Lucky.

Protip: Don't look games up on eBay on your phone in front of the sellers and other patrons.  You look like a Grade A rookie douche.  Either know your hobby, be super slick about it or make a gamble.

I put some kid on front street about this today.  He was browsing some PS2 games, and just standing there looking that shit up on eBay.  I come up behind him and say

"Yeah you are just looking them up on eBay like that?  Thats a rookie move bro."

He was so startled and scared that someone knew what he was doing.

^^^This reason right here is why garage sailing isn't fun for me anymore.  If someone legit beats me to a game lot (which people have many times) its all good.  You got it fair and square.  But if the first thing you care about is the value of some 5$ PS4 games?  I hope a spider lays eggs in your b-hole
