strange Dragon Warrior booklet question

So i have a CIB Dragon Warrior but I wanted to know if the Explorer's handbook came in the box or was a mail away? I can't see any way it would fit in the box as it's just too thick. If it does anyone got a good tutorial on stuffing it in the box?

Comments

  • It did not come in the box, it came with some other extras with the Nintendo power giveaway.
  • Glad I asked before trying to stuff it in there lol. Everyone must have kept these but not the manual and poster for the game as I somehow ended up with 2 of these. Come to think of it i have a lot of doubles of manuals. I appreciate the help.
  • Its the full size styrofoam block that makes it hard to fit in the box. Dragon Warrior 3 and 4 had big explorers handbooks packed in the box, but had a skinnier styrofoam block.
  • Looks like they learned their lessons eventually as not many games used them other than Dragon Warrior of Final Fantasy.

My (free) Nintendo Power copy of Dragon Warrior must have come with the skinnier styrofoam as well, as my adventurer's guide, etc., was inside the box when it arrived (and was kept that way until I stupidly squirrelled all of my boxes away in my parents' basement, inadvertently allowing them to get ruined).  As nearly all of my earliest games were CIB, everything for my copy of Dragon Warrior went back in the box when I wasn't playing it and it never bulged.  I wonder if there were multiple runs or if late-comers to the promotion ended up getting standard copies that they pulled from back-/store-stock and added the bonus items in the package (since they wouldn't fit in the OTC copies).
  • The box had the standard size instruction book, and the explorers handbook was for the mail away if I recalls
  • Yeah the guide definitely wasn't suppose to go in the box. If you use box protectors though you can slip the guide in the back behind the box to keep everything neatly stored together.
  • I'll give that a try. Right now all the spare and oversized manuals are in heavy plastic storage boxes with dividers. I hate stuffing NES ones into the dust cases as it just seems like asking for trouble.
  • Yeah, there is no way all the original DW stuff can fit in the box, I wouldn't even "want" to make it work.

Just do what DarDar said and put it in the box protector, your best option.
  • I made it work once. Stretched out my box a bit and gave it like a fat bubble in the back.

Yep, it is.  I was thinking about a childbirth reference instead, but I wasn't sure if you went C-section which would make the box stretching comment irrelevant.

haha so yeah I hear double entendres are a thing ...

  • I'm not used to forums where those are allowed after the last one I hung out on. They were pretty uptight about anything and everything and catered to the eternally offended.
  • Good lord that thread would have given that other forum a heart attack. Guess we should be glad there isn't any games featuring beavers or that thread would just explode.

Was it a Golf forum or an Equestrian forum?

  • It was a forum about collecting movie props actually. It was a pretty laid back place when i first joined but got a bit more up tight as time went on.
  • Is that RPF you're speaking of?
  • ...wait, why don't we have games featuring beavers?!

    Nope

Yep.  It fit, without bulge.  It came in a little slippery non-sealed baggie, but the stuff was in my game's box, right behind the game, sleeve & regular manual.  It always took a little jiggling of the case to get the maps, explorer's guide and "tip card" (or whatever it is/was) to slide down properly, but it fit without modification.  I've seen at least one more copy where everything fit inside nicely, at my local retro games store last summer.  They'd bought a bunch of CIB games and were wondering if they had everything.  When they dumped the non-bulging Dragon Warrior, all the Nintendo Power goodies slid out.  I confirmed that everything that was supposed to be there was there (including a random Nintendo Power ad), then showed them how to shake the box side to side slightly to get all of the larger items to seat properly to the bottom of the box, behind the styrofoam insert, game, etc.  There's tons of crazy rare few-offs talked about commonly on here, I don't know why this one seems to meet such resistance at acceptance.
