SNES - Final Fantasy II - Upside down label

image

Scored this little misfit on eBay last week. Not mint, but it has its charm. Auctions main image was poor and there was no mention of the error in the title, didn't even notice it myself until I clicked to check condition. At that point, had to have it. Haven't seen this one before. Pretty sure it was a rental, found magnetic tape on inner shell. Cart only.

  • Oh, shit. Mind if I ask how much you nabbed it for? I'm incredibly jealous!
  • Very cool man!

Only weird thing I see is a "lift" in one of the corners, not saying it isn't legit or anything but it is very odd that is the only thing damage wise to it.
  • Nice that's gotta be rare

It was actually in pretty terrible shape when I first got it, it took almost 2 hours to clean properly. There was sticker residue on both sides and there's still a good amount of marker in the shape of a #2 above the back label, as well as crud in some of its crevices. The label is actually in fair condition at best, there's still some lightly soiled spots on it which I don't think are worth cleaning and possibly fudging it up more. There's definite wear on this thing. Couple small nicks where the top label meets the front label. Good amount of scuffing. Pins have heavy use but still look okay.

I'm pretty sure that corner lift was probably from the original owner. It looks like some dad or some rental employee or whoever initially opened this thing was curious to see if they would be able to correct the positioning of the label, but then quickly realized they couldn't, said "fuck it", and stopped before they had half of a label. I know if it were myself and this game was brand new at the time period, I'd want it to look like everyone elses and I'd probably give it a shot.

The seller I got it from had like 5 games and a beat up but working SNES seperately listed, and still has a copy of starfox and the console up for another 3 days. Other than that, maybe a watch and some clothes I think. Not a dealer is my point. Probably a closet clean out. Low quality ebay images as well.

Tbh there were a few other bids in the last few seconds and I really thought I'd have to pay more than I actually ended up getting it for. It's not in the best shape, but I don't think that matters too much. If it were a normal cart, I would say I paid around the high end of average, if that makes any sense.

Totally, thanks for the info! I hope I can run into something like this in the future for myself!

Yes, exactly. Mines a touch better looking than that but you can totally see what I mean about someone originally trying to correct the label. I'm just glad they stopped where they did, it still looks pretty decent

That's it! You can kind of get an idea of the condition prior to cleaning, but believe me, that picture doesn't do it justice in regards to how filthy it was originally. Its probably the only instance of a seller labeling something as "Very Good", and me not minding that it was "acceptable" when I opened it.
