Would you turn down a game cause of its condition?

Like this one time I went to a retro game store and they had gilligan's island game for the Nes. The thing is it was in nasty condition, the outside was dirty and the inside there was a dead roach and some dried up roach poo you know freaking gross. I wasn't gonna get it at first but then I thought about it like this is one of those games you don't see too often, I know it's not rare. So I went and bought it but I cleaned it real good and sanitized it. Sometimes when I'm at a flea market some cases for ps2 games be tore up and beat up condition most times that stop me from getting it. How you guys feel about that situation?

  • If it looks disgusting, yes. If there is just wear and tear to the label or something I don't care. I'm not going to put something that is filthy in my system... or touch it.
  • I try and only get games in good condition. Nice clean labels is a must. If theres sticker residue or whatever i dont mind cleanin it up as long as the sticker isnt stuck to like the actual insert of a wii or ps2 game or whatever. That drives me bananas!
  • Usually just about anybody would refuse to buy a nasty game unless it's severely discounted, dead roach would've been a deal breaker for most, I hope you didn't pay much for it.
  • Being a little beat up is one thing...but I'm not bringing something "gross" back home no matter what it is...
  • Torn label is fine, marker/stickers are fine, but when you start talking about gross shit....no.

pretty much my thoughts. Depends what it is. If I see a little Samson for 5 bucks at a flea market, but I had to extract it directly from a dog's anus, I'd probably still get it. If I'm paying a lot for something, it better be nice, if it's dirt common, I'll find it somewhere else.

Thats terrible! Why is it in the dogs ass!? I would definitely be making a strongly worded phone call to some folks after safely removing the game and purchasing!

  • i try to get only games with roach carcasses and poop in them. not only do i like the smell but the taste is good too.

seriuosly tho i love the price of shit, bug, hair, smoke resin filled games.
  • Lol I seem opposite of everyone here. Gross is okay, as long as label is decent and cart is full intact. Torn label ill pass. Im going to clean it anyway.
  • What Bert said.

If you find a gem in a dogs butt, pull it out. If it's a SMB/Duck Hunt, leave it in there.

Haha... but really... if it's a great game/I don't have it, I don't care THAT much about condition if I'm buying it on the cheap or found it "in the wild". But if I'm paying a good price, then the cart should reflect the value.
  • I would consider a discounted bullshit-condition Stadium Events for a few thousand dollars discount.

Otherwise, the price difference between a crappy condition game and a nice condition game is almost never worth it to me. I don't even want to deal with Goo Gone-ing EBgames stickers anymore. There's no reason to have games like that stinking up my shelf, let alone dealing with how much more difficult they are to get rid of if you ever want to trade them.

    torn top label, NOPE.

Agreed, I clean and sanitize all my games anyways so it does not botter me if they are dirty, as long as the label is not torn

Kinda makes me wish there was a place that offered cheap rare games for doing weird shit. :/ how weird would someone go for a deal?
  • I see what everyone Is saying on here, if it's a rare game like earthbound, mega man x 3 I most likely wouldn't even care if it is in a little gross condition. As long as the game still works fine and the label is not all screwed up I'll clean them up the best I can, still much better than paying over $200 for them lol. Oh and plus I didn't really pay much for gilligan's island game in think only $3
  • If it's a game I want, as long as it's cleanable, and held to geather I'll take it, if I don't really want it but it's a deal, I'll probably turn it down if it's not in good shape.
  • I'm not a collector but I can't see having a problem with snatching up a good deal on a less than common game regardless of if it was a little stinky as long as the label was OK. I'm not afraid of a little elbow grease to make things shiny and new again.

    try me.
  • Its its for my own collection? Always. I have very few games I still need for my collection, mostly just high end manuals.

    To resell, most likely not.

  • I like it to be mint as possible, and will try to get an upgrade cart. I just got one yesterday that was a mint upgrade to a cart that had minor label issues.

Label damage in particular irks me as I don't want to put on a repro label. Marker/sticker residue I can clean off is okay.
  • Depends... I hate that im a bit picky (but not totally). I never wanted to be, but when I started getting rarer games I was lucky that they were always in great shape, so the common stuff always stood out...

If its priced really well, I would probably pick it up, and then wait for an upgrade (if theres a bit of a nick in it, or yellowed). If its ripped terribly I wouldn't. Or if its really cheap and beat up, why bother? Theres tons of em.
  • Always clean your used games when you get home. You never know where they might have been.

  • I'm not picky about condition.

I am picky about obvious visual contamination -- mold, mildew, bugs. Not bringing that knowingly into my house, where it can not only sully other items in my collection, but also create a potential health issue for my family.
  • It depends on the game honestly. I buy them to play them, I don't care how rare they are they get cleaned before they go into my console anyway.

I usually have pretty high standards for carts but every once in a while I go slummin'. I was glad to pay $9 for this one. Gotta love that wavy label. It's even uglier in person, and it's a 1%-er, that shit is all stuck on there like a tattoo. But Im in love with my pin connector so everything gets cleaned to the point of ocd no matter how long it takes. I look at carts like this as placeholders, I'd much rather have this for now as oppose to nothing or a reproduction.
  • Yep, I pretty much turn down 95% of the games I look at due to condition. I don't even need to list all the things that need to be right, they all need to be lol.
