Would you turn down a game cause of its condition?

I called, asked and the lady checked for the game and she said it was in mint condition, like new right out of the plastic. Now to this point I've been trying to get this game for going on 3yrs now (I don't trust ebay). I show up to get the game after driving 30miles out of my way, the so-called manager shows me the game and upon inspecting it, this was the worst possible conditioned game I've ever seen since getting back into collecting. The case looked like someone stuck it in their ass, the manual was completely hard as a rock from someone using it as fishing bait and the game had scratches so deep they went through to the other side of the disc thus completely destroying any possibility of actually playing the game.

I asked the manager: "Where is the copy I had reserved with my name on it? The mint copy I had your associate reserved for me?". He said: "I'm sorry, we sold that one yesterday, but I can resurface it if it'll make you happy"

I called back today and talked to the lady and according to her, the little punk-ass manager took my name off the mint copy and sold it to himself 30mins before I arrived and apparently he didn't know the store had the game and the copy he tried to sell to me was his personal copy he traded in because the lady said he was talking about finally being able to play it 10mins after I left.

If I had bail money and money for gas, I would go back there and bitch slap that manager across one side of the store to the other.

Wow that sounds like a real douchebag manager. I would email the headquarter and notify them about this, uou should also leave a 1 star review on Google etc.

There are a few game shops I visit every once in a while, and even though I'm picky I still usually come home with a few games. I buy a lot of stuff on Ebay. It's okay with me if I have to buy less games. It'll take longer to complete my collection, but that's okay. The process of finding VG/NM games is fun for me.

Interesting. If you're buying on eBay, it makes sense.

But I learned a long time ago to never leave a video game sitting in a store. You never know when you'll see one out in the wild again.

At the very least, to trade for other (more "minty") games.

But hey man, whatever floats your boat!

I got in contact with the District Manager through another employee from a different location. He said that isn't how game exchange is ran at all and that this isn't the first time he's had problems coming from this location from customers and all these complaints are situations involving management.

Hopefully the little prick loses his job because what he was doing is essentially stealing from the company by trading in games he knows don't work.
  • I used to not care as much, but I've come to realize that if the outside wasn't taken care of, the innards probably aren't either.

Seems like any game I've picked up that had a discolored ripped up or otherwise gross label or case either won't save, or had issues running or booting up.
  • theres a huge difference for me between "gross" and "played with". Generally I actually like smalls signs of wear on high value carts, as it makes me feel better about authenticity, which is becoming more and more important. As long as there arent large portions of the label MISSING, I'm usually ok. But straight up neglect is another thing. soda/water damage, smoke, etc. No thanks.
  • That roach lived his life in there. It was his home that he died in. That's history in itself.
  • With cart games, I always get them. They are hardy sons of birches, and they are made to last. The only thing that would scare me is if it had a rattle, because sometimes it's a broken chip, and sometimes it's just a Frito-Lay corner. Disk games though, I only buy with cases and in good condishion, I would never want a broken case or scratched disk, because of how easy it would be to break it after that, a scratch can always be buffed. A case someone stepped on can't be fixed.
