Interest Check -- Mike Tyson's Intergalatic Power Punch

OK guys I am sure most of you have seen the thread DreamTR started about his protos.  What I am wondering is do you guys as a community want to try and get this game released via ROMs.  He is asking $2000 for it to release the ROMs.

So how many people would be willing to pony up at least 20 bucks to get this game released for us all to enjoy.  People would be encourage to donate at least 20, more if you can spare it to get the game released for the community.  Keep in mind that all this $20 gets you is a copy of the ROMs playable via emulator only, and NOT a actually game cartridge.  (I am sure a certain silly rabbit named bunnboy would have a physical cart release of it though if this happens).  If there is enough interest then we will pursue the project, if non one seems to care then the game will remain unreleaed.

Also as an added bonus to hopefully get more people involved.  Anyone who donates at least $20 bucks will get a sexy boxing glove icon by their name for all eternity! image  These icons will only exist for people who donate, and will only happen if we can generate anywhere near 2k.

As some of you know, this game is quite similar to PowerPunch II which is already released on the NES.  MTIPP has several different image and sprites, and a different title screen of course (seen below).  The game play itself is close to the same.  I don't think Dream has played to far into the game to see how much stuff is actually different though.  I think this is an important piece of NIntendo history and I for one would LOVE to see it get released.

Please post and LMK if you are interested in donating to the project in this thread, and for how much.  Please don't say you will donate 100, and then actually only send 20.  And if you don't care about the game at least you can get a new sweet icon that most people aren't going to have, lol imageDonorsimage

  • 50 for your cause Jason. I hope more jump on board!
  • I'll donate $50 for now, probably more once I get more cash image !

  • Put me down for $20
  • great idea.. but i'm not sure wether i got the money for this

i dont play roms and i dont really care about protos.. so 20$ for an icon image

i'll be following this thread, but great initiative Jason
  • I'll donate $40.
  • Goin for the 20.
  • This is the true sequal to Mike Tyson's Punch out! $20 is a very small price to pay to keep alive and spread a valuable piece of Nintendo History! Keep 'em commin' guys image
  • I think it's great to get unreleased stuff out there, but some things are better left alone.

I don't think you could pay me $20 to play MTIPP, let alone throw down cash to have it dumped. I'm not huge into emulation, so it would have to be a real gem to get me to donate. If it were War on Wheels, I throw down $100 without hesitation. Good luck regardless. I have a feeling a lot of people will be interested.
  • BeaglePuss is right I want to withdraw my $50.............HA.

    nah.............make it $60 image

    Why not make it $100?

I'm not against people donating and getting the game released.  It's just not something I'm interested in.  The released version of the game isn't exactly a master piece.  I would imagine I'm not the only person the boards who isn't amped about a possible release of a terrible game.

well we have to start somewhere as a community if projects like this are going to work.  We could always try and do other games later if this project is a success.  Would be a great way to get history out to the masses.  We are wanting to preserve history here so it isn't lost forever, nothing more nothing less.  I understand this isn't for everyone but some games will NEVER be released unless $$$ are gathered to get them released.

Most unreleased games are terrible though, that is why they weren't ever released lol. image  Happy Camper and Ditka both aren't exactly gems in the NES library hehe.

Well, Dream could just dump em.

  • I guess it depends on what kind of timeframe you want, NGD. You can put me down for a guaranteed $20, but if the timing is right I may be able to up that.

That's fair, but I don't necessarily know if this is the game to start with.  What about something like Robin Hood?  The early version is suppose to be drastically different with some great added features (including an archery mode).  I would assume it would cost less to dump, and it would have a great deal of potential as well.  As unmemorable as the Robin Hood game was, I think it's head and shoulders above MTIPP.

I currently have a hand in three unreleased prototypes, all of which I hope to release some day.  I'm by no means against the preserving of such materials.  In fact, I'm all for it.

  • Oooh.. I special icon!

    I'm good for $20.

I really enjoyed the release of HC though for a number of reasons.

    1. It had been talked about for so long, and assumed MIA.

    2.  It was unreleased in any format before.

There was so much history behind it that it made it more alluring.  The
fact that no one knew what to expect made it exciting to play.  MTIPP
is missing most of the things that made me look forward to Happy Camper.

  • I will fork over $30.

Happy Camper is kinda fun though, at least.

I really hated Power Punch II.

  • damn, now I really do agree with BeaglePuss. I want Robin Hood as well, I actually liked that game!

    Word.

NGD is right in the sense that is would be a great step in the right direction.  I hope this goes well so other games (Like Robin Hood) will see a future release,

  • J for you $0.01

    No really $25

You can only start with what you have a chance to get image  These things don't grow on trees after all.  Robin Hood is already dumped... I have had the ROMs for it for years now.  There are only a handful of games that are still unreleased and undumped, so I think this project is as good as any of them.

  • No kidding? I had no idea that Robin Hood was already dumped.

What other titles do you have in mind then? Outside of War on Wheels and MTIPP that is.

Well said sir! This is mainly about preserving history more than anything.
  • NGD, im in for $20. I want that in my M82 under Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
  • Exerion 2, War on Wheels, Secret Ties, Hit the Ice, Crossfire, Mini Putt

I think a few of those might have ROM dumps but most of them don't I think. Those are some of the ones DreamTR has, but I am sure he wouldn't want to part with some of them, and I can't say I blame him. How many of us can say we have something that no one else on the planet has image hehe

please keep posting if you are interested in this project guys, good discussions like this are key to the success of projects like this.

This invariably comes up in every thread Dream starts, lol.  I don't see why he shouldn't make some money off his rarities.  It takes a lot of work to find them, and once a game is dumped, the value of the proto drops through the floor.

200% agreed nesguy!!!  This type of stuff you don't just luck into finding (hardy ever).  It takes tons of time doing legwork to find anything like this.  Making contacts who have contacts.  If I found a SE CIB for 20 bucks, would I be expected to sell it for that same 20 bucks, NO.  How do you put a value on a piece of history?  Is it worth 20 bucks, 100 bucks, 1000 bucks, who knows?  Time, effort, energy, dedication have to be worth something.  Plus the value of this games goes from about 2-3k for the actually cart down to about 600 or so once it is dumped, and that is a pretty big hit.
