Any Comic Collectors Here?

Hello friends.

Back in the 90s, the good ole days when I was launching blue sheels at my friends and jumping into the Koopa Troopa Beach tunnel shortcut, I also collected baseball/football cards (lol 90s cards value) and comics.

I have quite a few items in my comic collection that I am looking to trade or sell.  I never actually read them or opened them and they are all backed and boarded.  Very good condition.  Just a few listed below.

Spawn #1 - #50 all first editions I believe

Various Batman Comics

Various Wolverine Comics

Superman Death comic - Still in white bag

Various X-Men Comics

If anyone is interested or would just like to discuss comics in general shoot me a PM or post here.

  • I have most x-men, new mutants, x-factor, x - force, uncanny x-men, x-man, wolverine, cable, and punisher.

Supermans death was in a black bag, his rebirth was the follow up which came in the white bag. It reveiled four possible rebirths.

What are those comics worth these days?
  • Wheres Dan?

I dabble in and out of story lines i find interesteing. Got really into millar for a while.
  • I've never "collected" comics in strictest sense but I did have several periods where I bought and read different comic series and still have most of the issues I've bought.

I believe for the most part, anything from the 90s is worth next to nothing, except a few choice issues like the first appearance of Deadpool if you have that. The 80s have a few more gems.
  • I have a largish collection although I would love to gt rid of most of it.

Mirage TMNT vol 1 and vol 4 complete are basically the only comics I want to keep. I still want to track down vol 2 and 3 although they should be easier to come by. vol 4 seems like its impossible to find now so I'm glad I was in on the ground floor for that one

    I also have

    uncanny xmen 140-end including crossovers

    all of gen13

big run of conan and a bunch of black spider man comics

and a bunch of other random stuff in a big filing cabinet

More recently I just bought the entire cerebus digital collection from http://www.cerebusdownloads.com and am working my way through them. Highly recommended!
  • I read them digitally but don't collect hardcopies probably the second thing I actually prefer having digital aside music its kinda kickass reading them on my tablet.
  • www.cerebusdownloads.com also has the first 2 volumes of cerebus available for free.

(although I warn you it's good and you will want to buy the rest like I did)
  • I'm totally still a comic guy

Go to cons all the time and been on a hunt for books ( more so than games nowadays)

Next month I'm going to Vegas for another comic con, got VIP package For mcfarlane/ Eastman

I still pick up new books on Wednesday ( been more of a DC reader than marvel, also image has been kicking butt )

I think I have the first appearances for just about every x-men character minus Wolverine, characters from Giant Size #1, and the first issue.
I was talking with a guy on the subway today who was all about comic collecting. He was mentioning a lot of first appearance and issue one comics that I had thought werent to valueable but he seemed to think they were.

Those would be from the 60s or 70s.  marvel and dc (and image) from the 90s were overprinted like crazy.  particularly the "double bagged" "first edition" "holographic" "first issue" "first appearance" comics

Sweet! I've near forgotten about this series, a guy I was in middle school with had a few issues (80s) hadn't seen any since.
  • I used to collect comics, although I was more of a reader than a collector. I just happened to be into it during the era of Knightfall story line for Batman and the Death of Superman story line (I was obviously more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy) Those were some pretty epic stories that still hold up today. I got out of it sometime after that when I started to loose interest. If I was going to read anything today, it would probably be more graphic novels, or something where I have the entire story to read at once instead of waiting to find out what happens next week.
  • I like to collect the Marvel Comics Presents, cause I enjoy the Wolverine parts and various super hero stories. Read an issue of the Secret Defenders, and that was cool, might want to get more of those or the earlier Defenders.
  • I don't collect, but I have 'inherited' a couple tubs of bronze age comics with some notable issues such as X-Men Dark Phoenix saga, Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars.
  • Also, when I was in college during my junior year, I had to take a "popular literature" class (even though I was an accounting major  ).  When I signed up for the class, I had a few choices:

    • Fiction
    • Non-fiction
    • Science fiction
    • Poetry
    • Comic books

I saw the list and was like, wait.......what?????  Comics??????  Of course I signed up for the comic class.  It was actually a lot more work than I expected.  There was a lot of reading and writing for the class, but overall, I don't regret it.  Among some of the comics we read were Maus, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and The Daredevil Visionaries graphic novel.

  • I tried collecting comics but it instantly takes up obscene amounts of space, so I use Comixology now. I'm not into rare or key issues or anything, I just like reading them from time to time and it's hard to not go through some stores catalog and adding 40 cheap books to my order. They sure take up a lot of space and it's not like I ever go back and read them more than once, there's so much new stuff to read!

    Cerebus is fabulous

  • Just recently got into it. Only new things. Not really "collecting", just buying things I want to read.
  • I ran out of space. I gave up on reading marvel since the storylines just alienate me. Only shit I still pick up isdarkhorse for the Aliens comicsand Spider-Man. I've been buying some Batman stuff from the 80's here and there.
  • Here is some of my cooler stuff. All available for trade

Yes and when I say first 2 volumes that's around 50 issues he has put up for free.  No downside except you can't stop at 50 mwahaha

  • For a bunch of years I collected Daredevil comics and trade paperbacks. It got expensive so I stopped. I have the full collection of new Daredevil comics (2010 to 2014 or whatever) and a bunch of older ones from the 90s/early 00s, as well as paperback collections of the really early stuff. I would never say I was a collector but I just really enjoyed Daredevil and the comics.

Oh man Cerebus! I remember looking up something about aardvarks one day at work and somehow ended up at Cerebus and started reading a bunch of comics online and really got into it. I forget where I stopped but that is a quality comic!
  • If anyone's interested I do have an Amazing Spider-Man 300 (first appearance Venom) up for trade. Only seeking out video games for trade however.
  • I have a couple. The only one I really wanted was World's Finest #142, but I also have Superboy #66 and a couple odds and ends including the Superman from the Month/Year I was born.

Curt Swan is a "local" guy, hence the reason for the Superboy (and World's Finest to an extent.)
  • I'm gonna hit the 10,000 mark on comics this year! I am definitely running out of room though which kind of sucks.

What are ya looking for PM hehe
  • I was starting to collect casually for the onslaught saga (X-Men circa '96) and when they released the 4 volumes all together I quickly stopped. I have a few (like 10 to 20) I keep for reading but probably 30 to 40 (fantastic four, Lobo, x-force, daredevil, batman even Gen-13 and others) that I'd just like to pass on to someone else for next to nothing. I never read them and not really into collecting them.
  • I went to Wizard World Comic Con - Minneapolis, and there were only a couple vendors actually selling comics, but I realized how addicting it can be to rummage through an entire table of various comics. It was pretty fun actually.

I can appreciate an old comic just the same way as I can appreciate an old baseball card or car, for the craftsmanship and vintage feel, so being "left alone" with a table full of comics (some as old as the '50s, like my Superboy) was pretty awesome.
  • If anyone is interested in comics / comic art , I really recommend Felix Lu's podcasts:

    http://felixcomicart.libsyn.com/

Especially good is Episode 17 with Glenn Danzig (who is both a comic publisher and comic art dealer/collector in addition to being the well known musician from The Misfits).

The David Mandel (Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm writer) episodes are also great.
  • I had thousands at one point. All from the 80's and 90's.

Lady Death, Evil Ernie, Purgatori, Spawn, Batman, Xmen, Superman, Spiderman, and a bunch of other stuff.

Anything by Brian Pulito i loved.
