Kid Klown NeS spike

I was recently looking at some of the prices of my nes games and one that I looked up was Kid Klown. I payed $30 for this cartridge back in 2010/2011 and now the game is on eBay auction for upwards inbetween $300-$600. I knew this game was uncommon but I don't get why it's this expensive. I never would've thought this game would hit these prices. Loose carts have sold on average for $300-$350 why so much?

  • I think its that the games that were legit rare that flew under the radar are finally catching up. Zombie Nation, Kid Klown, Dragon Fighter, Cowboy Kid, etc. If anyone did their research like I did a few years ago luckily, you were able to catch it before the huge spike.
  • Great, I kept passing up CIBs because they were lacking poster. Won't be paying the new price.
  • A strategy I go for is to buy the box+manual+cart and get the poster later

    Yep this
  • I wouldn't doubt if someone is playing the market. There is a videogame/magic card dealer who had a hand in several other titles jumping in price like this.
  • Aw just like Rampart on gameboy. I remember a few year's ago being told you could not manipulate the market by buying everything up and putting them back up at a higher price but here we are.
  • I think it's a combination of the above. It's a genuinely hard to find game, but I expect some funny business is going on.

Did this guy happen to hoard zanac and godzilla for NES?  If so, I know who you are referring to.
  • I blame the fucking YouTubers!!!! What pisses me off is these guys promote all these classic games and shit and cant even really beat said games or play them worth a shit.... Sad faces....

Yeah, there's a number of games that I think are still out there that are rarer than you'd think but still pretty cheap. Don't want to start a run on them by mentioning them.

    You can't.

First you have to buy everything up and then sell back to yourself with several different ids for higher and higher prices.

  • I know Pat and Ian have mentioned it before in there podcast

Truth, what ever happen to just playing the game because it was genuinely a good game or because not every one wanted games like little Samson just to be a fan boy. I get all the hype but I especially don't appreciate the fact that a lot of these games on the nes are very costly and it's all due to the fact that YouTube personality over hype these titles good or bad and because people are willing to pay these crazy prices. But with that said you wouldn't have the world of collecting in the first place without these "bad" elements.

I doubt that would cause a run. They mention tons of games, some pretty rare but cheap, and they haven't budged. Plus, it would have to have been awhile ago as Kid Klown has been pricey for a comparatively long time.

Usually it takes a let's play, like James and Mike. Even then some of the games they spiked have come back down (Sky Kid, Krazy Kreatures.)

Thats why I didn't  .  If people really want to know they can do their research, we are probably thinking of the same games!

  • Yep, got my dragon fighter when I was still hunting dragons. Not no mo though!

I agree to some extent but these resellers watch all these YouTube personalities and think hey well if these guys are mentioning how these games are sought after we can raise the price to whatever. It's bullshit...

They can only raise the price to what people are willing to pay, or run the risk of them gathering dust. Some dipshit listing a game at $500 when auctions end at $50 isn't going to force it higher.

Honestly, this has been a problem for awhile. I've never seen a Pat or AVGN vid on Little Samson, and that's the poster child of the hyped game. Sometimes it's just being in a hobby without enough to go around for everyone.

Don't blame the resellers, blame the buyers.  They are the ones driving the prices up - however in this instance I don't think it has anything to do with "youtubers", it has to do with legit rare "decent" games.

I don't think the YouTubers should hype shit up on games especially some that aren't even that great! Then you got people like MichaelBthegamegenie talking about great games for under ten bucks that's going to straight boost the prices after you make your video. Just because you got a wall to wall collection, don't fuck it up for the rest of us.

maaaan 8 bucks? Crazy spike that is.
  • I want to play the games, I don't want to shelf collect. I have no desire whatsoever to collect CIB or any of that. I want my games in pristine condition and playable that is all.

That one I think did get spiked up to $30 or so a few years ago by one dude buying about two or three dozen copies.

Nice to see it's come back down.
