I wouldn't doubt if someone is playing the market. There is a videogame/magic card dealer who had a hand in several other titles jumping in price like this.
Did this guy happen to hoard zanac and godzilla for NES? If so, I know who you are referring to.
Man that guy was a piece of work. I ended up buying some shit from his recently, made out like a bandit
Any market can be manipulated but I don't believe there is some fiend out there driving up the price of video games, but I could be wrong.
No, there is. Many in fact.
Yeah, from what I've seen there's speculators in every hobby, at every level. A little bit is not a bad thing, if it gets to the point where there are more speculators than collectors then that gets to be trouble. So far though our hobby is so small dollar wise compared to the older hobbies that it really doesn't attract any significant speculation money.
I mean... someone increased the price of rampart for gameboy by $10 for a couple months. Who fucking cares!
these threads are idiotic. If you havent paid attention in 3-4 years and even then it was expensive, then you shouldnt be allowed to post a shocked at a price thread.
I missed out on this one about 3 years ago for around 100. I tried like 3 times and just missed mainly due to timing on na. Luckily I snagged cowboy kid for decent around that time.
It only took a few year's but now more people are finally accepting the reality that the market can be manipulated.
If people can manipulate the stock and gold markets (which have laws and regulations in place to prevent it) was the ability to manipulate the market ever in question?
Didn't you say it can not happen not too long ago? My point was it can happen and we have a few case's of proof. Whether or not it last's forever is not the issue, Dragon warrior had this same effect and the super collection collector even admitted it, it was not his intention but it happened.
Same thing with Jurassic park, these are a few we know about and i did not forget the Indiana Jones game for nes either.
TLDR, the market can be manipulated and more then enough information is out in the public now.

Sure it can happen. Your example just didn't explain well enough how they were doing it.
Sorry about that, i have been looking at this for a long while now and can forget not everybody is doing the same. No hard feelings, i just keep seeing thing's like this happen and it does bother me a bit.
It can be hard to tell when it is an organic change in price and when something else is going on, not that any title i mentioned mean's anything to me but i have been keeping an eye on this stuff.
Obviously i could have worded thing's better and i apologise for not being clearer about it.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me at all if they want to speculate on it with their cash that's their money and they could do with it as they please. Does it suck for us that just want one to play and hold on to for nostalgic purposes, yes, but it's a free market. I collect just to play good games, I don't have the intention of making any real money off my carts 40 years down the road so it doesn't matter to me but there are shitty people in every hobby.
Obviously no one can police this and i said so not too far back in this thread.
I am not losing sleep but like i said it bothers me when i see thing's like the Indy scenario or a few other's i do not need to mention here. It sucks and at the same time nothing can be done about it.
Manipulation of a title is something that can be done and just do your research on a title you may be getting ready to buy, if it is currently being hyped, be vigilant and find out why.
It could be organic or engineered, possibly just bad rarity information.
Gee, I sure like a thread hyping a rare game that's already being hyped
In all seriousness, this one is in a group of non-Taito rares (Kid Klown, Dragon Fighter, Cowboy Kid and Zombie Nation) that had to get to this price eventually. I was actually looking for Cowboy Kid and Zombie Nation until recently because I knew those would skyrocket at some point, and it looks like we're finally at that point. Unfortunately I held off Kid Klown for a little longer as I felt it definitely is the weakest entry in this group. And here we are again
This is my personal belief on this but I don't think that kid klown is that rare as it is uncommon. The only thing that has risen the value of this game is the fact that yes it is the demand and the hobby has grown. I keep going back to this example of "Chrono Trigger and Seacret of Mana" not very rare game to acquire but it's he fact that these games are so good that people keep them. Kid Klown isn't a common game to find by any stretch but I wouldn't say this is a rare game either as i've been able to find copies in the wild around 9 or so years back in stores just not as frequent but fairly often. Try finding zombie nation or any of the other titles mentioned in stores even once in a few months time at your local game store.
It is really interesting to see the market go up on so steady pace (basically many games doubling their value in around 2 year cycle, starting from 2010-2012 or so) - To me it does not matter anymore since I got my set locked down. And to be honest, I don't care anymore what the value of the games are going to be, it does not matter to me if the collection is valued at 30k or 500 bucks, it is my full licensed NES set, and that's what counts to me. I love looking at it, playing the games (on my everdrive of course, since I don't want to destroy the collection carts) and I just love it. All the way, from gaming to collection. But I was amazed to see Dragon Fighter becoming one of my top 15 expensive carts since I bought it in 2014 for around 90 bucks...

Disagree 100 percent. Zombie nation is more common than kid klown.
Not just from personal experience, just from online availability as well.
But if you want to use accedotal personal experience like you did, ive found/seen 5 zombie nations. Ive seen/found 1 kid klown and that was 6 years ago when it was worth 30 bucks. I traveled all over snd went hunting non stop for quite a few years. Way more than the average NA user. I went on long game hunting trips and im located in apparently "game heaven" region for finds.
But kid klown has always been more scarce than zombie nation
The fuck? I literally sold a copy of this for like $150, and it's doubled that quickly?
if you mean yesterday, you gave someone a stellar deal.
I meant to say back in February
avg loose selling price even then on game value now was 218. So you gave someone a great deal evern in february
looking at the history of this game trend wise. Looks like its spiked about 50 each tax season. Makes sense. Its the best selling time for stuff like this. More people are going after those second level rares since the top are so high. Tax season last year this bumped from avg price mid 100s to high 100s and steadily climbed all year to about 200. Then this tax season it went from low 200s to high 200s.
Makes sense to me. Not really a dramatic overnight thing
Aw just like Rampart on gameboy. I remember a few year's ago being told you could not manipulate the market by buying everything up and putting them back up at a higher price but here we are.
You can't.
First you have to buy everything up and then sell back to yourself with several different ids for higher and higher prices.
Not true. Sculptor's cut, wacky races, chubby cherub, wayne's world, zombie nation, run saber, and stunt racer 64 are great examples. Here (http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=101466) is a thread from 2013 that I started after I had been stalking SC for months to snag a copy for under the going rate (like I was successfully able to do for majority of the rare NES titles I still needed at that time), when suddenly all were bought that were listed on amazon, ebay, and other online vendors. It is and has happened over and over again.

Proof?
funny enough the OP posted about rare titles last year..... look how many of us said Kid Klown
http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&thr...
99% of the OP's posts are "What's a rare game for system X? What can I buy?" His sig says it all. Never wants to do the legwork.
He just wants what you got. that's all.
He can't have what I got.

Is chubby cherub still listed as an R4? Haha

Lol true, I'd wish I would've seen this earlier. I happen to collect for rare games it's what I like.
I feel great! I'm way ahead of the curve on this one as I expect it to be a $2,000 game in a few months.

I just bought this game on eBay for the killer price of only $450.
I feel great! I'm way ahead of the curve on this one as I expect it to be a $2,000 game in a few months.
Do you really think so?
