Do you guys think if this scenario happened, not saying it would, but would game hunting in the wild just disappear due to stuff presumably being so easy to obtain at that point?

Yes for the people who get a high off of rarity and only care about that, not for player's who want to discover new game's to them.
Perfect example.
If limited run game's did not have rare title's, the speculator's and people who care about having something that few people can own, would jump ship. The people who just want physical media to play will stay.
This is basically the question in which the actions will determine who you really are: a gamer, a collector, or an investor?
As a gamer: you would carry on, and keep playing them
As a collector: you would still collect, but probably be put off massively due to everything being so easy to find, but ecstatic that the $10,000 game you've always wanted is now readily obtainable.
as long as i could still play my games, i'd be happy. if i'm not selling them for the prices they command today, why would i try selling them as fast as possible for a buck or two?
I wouldn't sell anything as I don't own anything just because it's "rare." If anything, I'd go on a buying frenzy. SNES prices I've noticed have started to dip slightly (maybe just my experience) and I'm finding myself buying more of those than anything.
I'd buy a ton more games if the market crashed. I really don't care much if the market ever crashes honestly. I'm not in it for an investment or for the value. It would likely just make my collecting easier.
Thats How I look at it. Im not in the market anymore to make money off of the hobby.
Sucks for those whose primary invested or something similar.
This is such an old reoccurring topic, I cant say it enough if youre waiting on the fence for a game to drop
just quit being stingy and just buy it and enjoy it while you can or else you're just praying that in sometime in your
lifetime (Like soooooo many others) are just hoping its going to just drop off of everyone's mind and just become worthless over night. youre fooling yourself.
Video games are not like Beanie Babies, Baseball cards and comics, they serve multiple purposes as there can be Collectors out there collecting a certain set for Different reasons.
Like...
Play-ability = Classic, Nostalgia or just someones favorite game to play
Artwork = Yeah some people collect Boxes, Manuals and Carts just for the sweet 1980s artwork. (looking at you Metroid Classic label)
Value = VGA, RETIREMENT? Small Investors for whatever reason will play the hobby like the stock market.
Reproduction = Carts are being destroyed, (a bit less in recent years) for repro and or Homebrew.
Alot more use and variety of collectors than just a Typical "Card Collector".
the only thing that would cause a drastic drop has already happened
in the early days of emulation back in the early 2000's. (Back when prices were still affordable) Emulation continues to get better with almost
every title on the home console market already available to be emulated 100 different ways. And even with that we still see the price of games going UP! and UP!!!
Remember when Earthbound was fionally brought to the ESHOP??? Yeah, the impossible happened and it was finally released and we all thought it would have an effect on the price. NOPE! The opposite happened. went from a $100 game to $200 in a matter of months and has remained there.
Basically were not going to see anything in our lifetime, maybe our kids? Once were all old geezers and we "NintendoAge" Generation are dead, then maybe the next generation wont care about collecting such things. As of in the near future Unless Nintendo somehow destroys their brand and all credibility the market will continue to go Up! and UP!!!
Well if anyone owns high-value games that have just tanked, they probably don't need the $2 enough to sell their copies of Little Samson or Dino Peak for it. I imagine the realistic answer, adhering to your hypothetical conditions would be, "keep my collection and be pretty bummed about the value".

I'd have to move into a bigger house to make room for all the new games I'd buy.
Me too! LOL

I love having my collection, it makes me happy and my wife doesn't argue lol

I'd keep everything I own and probably buy more because then they'd be cheaper.
This precisely. I buy these things because I like them, and intend to play them. I'd probably just collect... faster.
