You could find the 'theatrical cut' versions on DVD. Those are just the laserdisc versions on dvd. Although, I own the laserdisc set and I enjoy flipping them over.
Edit: Holy shit... that link to the THX versions. I've got like 4 or 5 copies of that set and I paid like $1 each for. They're not sealed... but damn.
Star Wars, empire and jedi back to back with all the credits cut out on a single extended play grainy ass old vhs just like how I to watched it..
Then take a break and get a soda.. go to the washroom, etc.. then watch the whole clone wars tv series (bathroom break), then you can watch rogue one.. pretend the prequels don't exist and watch star wars again again right before episode 7 so you can point out how they are exactly the same movie except that the original didn't have keanu reaves.
Edit: or a respecialized edition of star wars with Keanu Reaves superimposed over vader!
Don't own the prequels, and I'm putting off having to rewatch those for as long as possible.
That said, these are "unaltered" releases in the sense that they are the "De-specialized Edition" (i.e. cleaned up film, but none of the stupid add-in scenes from the re-releases)
I want to watch those in that form. I saw Return of the Jedi on cable this week and for the first time saw all kinds of stuff that wasn't there before like all the extra scenes of musicians and dancers in Jabba's palace. It added nothing and only made me change the channel before I saw anything else that shouldn't be there.
Am I the only one that always thought that labeling the original trilogy as episodes IV-V-VI was completely useless? Okay, it puts them chronologically in order given the time of the fiction. So fucking what? It is a fictional story, the important order is when they are told, not when they take place in their fictional time. They were intended to be watched in order of release, how could it be otherwise?
Not that you can't watch those produced so far in whatever order you want. But the whole idea of labeling them in chronological order by the time of the fiction always seem very silly to me. The first film produced in the series is the first episode, cause it is the first piece of narrative in the whole series.
First time through, I think you've got to watch them in release order. The plot reveals in IV, V, and VI would be ruined by watching I, II, and III first.
For those who haven't seen Rogue One, I highly recommend it. I thought it was fantastic, and it was cool to see how the Rebels ended up with the Death Star plans in the first place.
As for the prequels, I was 9 when Episode I came out, and I loved it. I also thoroughly enjoyed II and III when they came out. Since then, my tastes have changed (matured?), and I prefer the original trilogy. However, one thing about the prequels that is often lost (ignored?) is that the overarching storyline is much more complex and intriguing than the original trilogy. Hear me out.
The original trilogy is a scrappy, lovable set of underdog good guys against an enormous evil Empire. A pretty standard storyline. There's some wrinkles with the father-son dynamic, but overall, it's not a very complicated plot. It's how it's told that is brilliant.
Contrast that to the prequels, where a good government system is being torn apart by someone on the inside and very few people notice it. The line in Episode II (maybe III) by Padme after Chancellor Palpatine is given emergency powers is fantastic: "So this is how liberty dies--to thunderous applause." The people are excited about this overthrow of their ideals because they don't realize what's really happening. The Jedi can't even fully comprehend the situation until Palpatine basically shows his hand to Anakin, but by then it's too late--the Jedi's "best, new" weapon has been turned against them. He even got the Republic to buy his army for him. It's really a great storyline overall. However, the execution is so horribly, tragically flawed that you almost can't follow it. The directing, dialogue, and acting get in the way too much.
The correct order by far to watch and play Star Wars!
A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Shadows of the Empire, Return of the Jedi, Ewoks TV show, Droids TV show, The Ewok Movies, KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Star Wars Christmas special (this will make episode one seem good), Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Republic Commandos, Clone Wars animated, Clone Wars CGI movie, Clone Wars CGI TV show, Revenge of the Sith, Force Unleashed, Force Unleashed 2, Rouge One, A New Hope Remastered, Empire Remastered, Jedi Remastered, Jedi Academy, and last but not least The Force Awakens.
Not sure about Rebels as I have not seen it yet. There are other games that should be on there but they jump on time to much.
^^^ Don't blame Hayden's acting, blame the shitty direction.
Even Natalie Portman comes off as flat and terrible and she's won Academy Awards.
That speaks to the direction being the problem (along with the writing).
Good point, I agree the director ruined it but I think he was terrible.
I saw a fan theory video on YouTube about Hayden's awful acting being a choice. There is a line in IV where Obi Wan says there is so much of your father in you. Good pilot, Jedi, treats droids like people blah blah blah, but one thing this video brought up was how whiny Luke is and how whiny Anakin is and played clips side by side of the two acting the same. Its really funny and by no means is it serious, but it is food for thought (just like Darth JarJar).
I'm surprised no ones mentioned which are the best copies (or what we call variants in gaming world) to watch the OT in. As has been mentioned, the OT was edited and completely destroyed by Lucas by adding additional scenes. Unfortunately, if you want to see the IV,V & VI in their original splendor, you have to search for the first-release VHS tapes. I'm not sure if there are Betamax copies but they would likely be better. .
If anyone would like to know where you can purchase the Uncut Star Wars Original Trilogy on DVD please PM me and I will let you know.
Sorry. It just bothers me when people use malapropisms in their spelling or speech without seeming to know they're doing it. I'm a teacher--my students do it all the time--so it's kind of a gut reaction. (Worst offender, as I teach history, is cavalry and Calvary. I always have to tell my students, cavalry is mounted soldiers, and Calvary is where Jesus died. The army did not have 3,000 places where Jesus died charge the enemy.)
Anyway, again, I apologize for my little side rant.
Carry on. (And feel free to ignore me. Just wanted to get this off my chest.)

I'm no expert but I thought Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, Judea at Mount Calvary. I've also seen it written as Calgary, but then again I am no theologian or historian. As far as cavalry, I think European knights, like the Knights Templar during the Crusade. I guess that is why I stick to the sciences.

Calvary and Golgotha are the same place. Different name springing from different languages and interpretations of the geographical features.

what you think about 7?
That bonanza link rlh posted.
oh nice, I was really excited for a sec and thought it was the laserdisc....
Why not the normal order?
What's the normal order?
III, VI, II, V, I, IV.
This is some Quentin bullshit. What other series does this?
I just realized ive only seen the original 3. Didnt even know there was a #9
You're probably better off if you keep it that way. Madness awaits those who journey beyond the boundaries of the Original Trilogy.

Guys...
It's Rogue One, not rouge.
Rouge is red makeup.
Rogue means rebel.
