I didnt mean offend anyone but a spade is a spade no changing the fact on that. You put the cheese on cracker

No one is impressed by your confrontational attitude, trust me.

Making 1:1 identical reproduction labels harms the hobby, there is no doubt about it. Coming to a place where people are passionate about maininting the integrity of collecting video games and using terms like "collectards" because people are against counterfeits, you wont be around for long.

I think you are taking it out of context and how am I being confrontational? Sorry I treat others the way the treat me. Im not swearing or perosnally attacking anyone singling them out. Whatever happened to people having different viewpoints on a subject matter.

"Label clearly as a reproduction" repairing something that is mechanical so it actually works and disclosing that it is 100% different than replacing a label to try to (possibly) sell something for more.

Is that what this guy is going to do? Most likely not. But to maintain the integrity of the hobby we have to err on the side of the fact that *most* people will probably make fakes to profit off them instead of hoping that no one will end up scamming with them. Even if the end up in someone elses hands, that person may not know they are fakes and represent them as real.

Yes the person buying it *should* be knowledgeable but thats not the point.

    Do you remember this post?

If people want to get in an uproar you don't know how many so called rare NES games I had seen at this past Retro World Expo with shitty repro labels with jacked up sky high prices. This isn't the first time someone has done a video on making replacement labels and won't be the last.
  • Saying that counterfits will only bother "true collectards" is straight trolling.  Playing dumb about it is even more stupid.
  • It's just as much work to make a custom label with a totally different look than to make a ripoff of a real one that will eventually end up being sold as real.
  • I believe our hobby has the unique problem of being about usable stuff. You have the people that collect and want to keep the integrity of the originals (and not having the market flooded with fake stuff), and the holier than thou retro gamers that do not understand people are interested in these games for reasons different than gaming itself.

To the OP, I understand it is your stuff and all, and nobody here is going to sue you (we simply can't), but you can not expect that what you do pleases most of us. We have our reasons (economic, historical, potential counterfeiting, future confusion if your items get in the market, etc.) Obviously you do not care a lot about those possibilities, but your reasons to make 1:1 repro labels are as subjective as our reasons to not liking them. I would not call you names or anything, but what you do potentially hurts collecting so we don't like it. Period.

I am mystified by your position though. You deride collectors (as seen in previous posts), but if your approach was "for gaming only", why care about having original carts anyways? You care for the actual board but not the label? are you a collector of sorts too? If not, why not get a nice Harmony cart or a Power Pak/Everdrive?

Exactly my thoughts....There is even cheaper options of running an emulator on your PC. Running an OEM-NES controller to your PC via a NES->USB adapter makes no difference, I can still beat Battletoads on it, I can still beat Castlevania on it etc...That has to say something about delays.

Of course we weren't talking about NES games specifically but I am sure there is quality controllers to use for every vintage system.

If you want to just play the games, do it that way...Save your money and do something else with it.
  • I just see these co called collectibles are mere objects just after all this time I think I have lost my passion for collecting. I started collecting again a tad over 6yrs ago after seeing the first episode of the game chasers and it resparked collecting for me. Problem for me was games for a multitude of different platforms were coming in too fast to the point it became overwhelming and wound up getting shelved than actually played. I am thinking of getting a few flash carts for certain platforms that readily get played. I deride collectors because I feel a good majority of them not all have their heads stuck in the clouds with no sense of reality. In the end we will all agree to disagree.
  • Nice knowing you.
  • Before the likely cries of unfairness pour in, we did a little digging. Turns out Plumber_of_8bits was a returning banned member. Just didn't catch it till now.

Come to think of it, I don't see much reason to keep this thread up any longer.
