Jersey

  • Well,

A typical driving experience on the NJ Turnpike would be...

    - Drive AT LEAST 90 mph in the slow lane, have a car inches from you on the side at all times and a car inches from your back bumper at all times.

Everyone drives in tightly packed groups to avoid getting a speeding ticket fom Troopers.

It's like the zebras you see on the Discovery Channel huddling together to protect themselves from lions.

Most of the folks I know from New Jersey are great - however some strangers I've met from there were horrible.

I'm betting that 95%+ of the people on this site couldn't afford to live in the part of NJ I live in.  Rolling horse farms, excellent public education systems,  2 beautiful reservoirs teaming with wildlife, short commutes (less than 90 minutes) to either NYC or Philadelphia.   Yes, taxes are high, but the quality of life is hard to beat.

New Jersey isn't just Trenton, Newark or the Jersey Shore...

What county are you from? Sounds just like up here in Warren county, horses, hills and wildlife. I just got a video from my dad yesterday of a black bear climbing up a tree up the street from our house
  • Itsuh Jersey thang.

Thats income, not median home value. Plus it looks like that list is a bit out of date. Hunterdon looks pretty nice though.

I guess living in a highise you tend to avoid the sidewalk what with uber as your chauffeur.

NYC is genuinely disgusting when the weather is hot.

And when the weather is cold it is horrible in its own special way.

It is an ok place to visit for a few days in spring or fall, though.

The summer in the city scene of Great Gatsby sums up how I feel about hot weather there, though.

For contrast, none of the summer when I lived in Atlanta were ever a quarter as gross as times I have visited NYC...

I've been to Atlantic City a few times for bachelor parties and what not, but I'll never go back as it gets worse each year. Casinos have been legalized in lots more places and we have some nice ones in Maryland now too. So there's no draw to Atlantic City anymore, and each year it gets more barren and ghetto. You walk one or two blocks past a casino there and your in dark alleys with grass growing through the pavement with no signs of life. It is not a desirable place to be.

No argument on the shithole that is AC, but MD casinos are filled with trash too. I'll never set foot in MD Live again. I wouldn't call MD casinos "nice." Even the Horseshoe and that's pretty new. In terms of the people you find, that is. The casinos themselves are fine..

In terms of casinos "filled with trash", I would expect that to be the case anywhere other than SE Asia or Monte Carlo.

If Vegas is full of trashy people, and you have to book flights to get out there, I would imagine that all of the "local" casinos on the east coast are going to be just as bad, since they are cheaper to access.

Foreign casinos tend to cater to a different set...

  • I'm trying to book a little beach vacation for my family to wildwood in August and it's crazy expensive. I think trip advisor just ranked it the #1 hotspot in the US for 2017.
  • I'm not a fan of Jersey as they are right across the river here mocking me and all that I stand for.
  • People hate us cuz they ain't us.

The first solo outing I did with friends after I got my license was to Seaside Heights and we ran into Kevin Smith just wandering the boardwalk. This was right after Mallrats came out. I didn't even know who he was I just said what's up. All my friends were like " Holy shit that's Silent Bob". Michael Graves was the singer from the Misfits original comeback album and one day he showed up in the punk record store that my girlfriends dad opened up in Seaside. A few years later, after he was done with them, he was my waiter at IHOP one night, it was awesome

Sounds like you live in Colts Neck. Say hi to The Boss for me. I think that's the only house he still owns in NJ.  My uncle also lives there only a few large blocks from Springsteen, say hi to him for me too.

The Jersey shore stuff doesn't bother me because every state has their form of parasites. It's the fact I have to go through NJ to get home from NY if the George Washington bridge is shut down. Fuck the tappan zee bridge.

You must be hanging around to many public restrooms or waste facilities. I live on the Jersey Shore and unless ocean air smells like shit???

Whenevr I hear someone say Jersey smells like shit, it's usually because they were either driving through on the Turnpike or going to the Meadowlands were all the oil refineries and marshes are. I don't like to admit it but that area does literally smell like shit. Must be Jimmy Hoffa's rotting corpse.

  • I can think of at least 10 states that I'd avoid more than New Jersey, and I live by like... 3 of them.

  • Thanks for these answers. I wonder if England has a place like this. Knowing my luck I live in it!
