ps. using the term "collectard" is rude and offensive. And not because it's a reference to collectors. The term "retard" is offensive and really outdated.  It shows your ignorance and negatively impacts your credibility.

Don't confuse the poor boy. All he knows how to do is rant the word 'Collectard' over and over. He spends more time on forums ranting about the 'evil collectards' than he does playing games. If you google collectard, you get heeps and heeps of this moron posting his bullshit on every single video game forum. He 'collectards' forum accounts to spew his 'actual facts' aka stupidity.

I also love that the 'proof' part of his post doesn't prove anything.

  • "They cause price spikes with their stupid collecting." - Honestly, I think it's mostly resellers and more people coming in to the collecting scene that are causing the spike in prices. I wish I could get NES games for $.50 each, or hell, even $1, but that's not happening any more.
  • Well, technically, he is correct. Us buying up all the damn games caused the prices to go up.

I think there are still some gaps in objective knowledge that are filled here and there as they are discovered.  The DS game + book combos.  That paperwork Acid had for Gradius or whatever.  etc.  At this point I think we don't know what we don't know.

Maybe we should all pick a day of the week to buy games. I'll take Monday, Loxx can have Tuesday, Mr. Wunderful, Wednesday, etc.

    That'll solve it.

No, we all pick one common game.  We all buy that one game up to extinction.  Then slowly trickle them out.  I call Combat for Atari 2600! I want to drive that sumbitch to Samson heights.  Then that joke Pat made in the AVGN NWC episode won't be so damn funny, will it?

Is it bad that we're already to satire or parody of what makes us terrible?

Under My Home, last tab = Foes.

Holy shit! hahaha... I talk to someone in PMs for weeks about this and us always saying we had made no progress.  Thanks, Paul.  You're a swell guy.

Post in the help thread next time. It is forum related and people will gladly help out. I couldn't figure out how to multi quote and learned by making a thread.

Isn't that when Kirby sends you off the screen with that damn hammer?

  • Nah, man. It wasn't that serious. Since we were talking about ignoring what people say and all that in this thread I was just curious. It was more a joke between another user and myself.
  • I have to say, this thread had its tiny heated moments. But i am impressed it didn't get to a point where it needed to be locked so far.

And it always nice to hear opinions from both sides of the fence. Not everyone has to walk away from this thread in agreement.

As for what Jone said above about not coddling people. You don't need to hand hold or coddle anyone. Who is asking for that?

But if someone asks a question that is obvious to us, the first response shouldn't be to poke fun or make them feel badly. Unless they are being rude, cruel, or obnoxious and perhaps deserve it.

We are not saying to baby people, but there is definitely a certain etiquette that should be adhered to so we don't look like jerks who flame any newcomer that might have an obvious question, or a differing opinion than ours. Debate and have heated discussions, they are healthy. But to be blatant jerks, and i have been guilty of this myself in the past, to newbies just isn't cool. Again my 2 cents.
  • there's "obvious to collectors who've been at it for years" and "obvious to anyone who spent 5 minutes on google". most of the real dumpster fire threads revolve around someone new making a post in the latter category and making a big scene when someone scolds them for asking a dumb question for the 15th time.

I was waiting for this response lol.

Not everyone wants to refer to google for everything. Sometimes it is nice to have a conversation with actual other human beings and not just read everything off a web article or wiki. It isn't being lazy, they took the time to sign up here, make the post and have a friendly dialogue with other collectors.

As for making a scene, those are a handful of members that i think we all know the names of. This is the bigger picture here which happens way more frequently IMO.

And even better. IGNORE THE THREADS if they bother you or don't want to answer. Instead of berating them becauase they didn't use google. Why be a dick?

  • There's a fatigue that comes with repetition. Seeing the same question over and over, especially one that doesn't warrant much discussion, gets aggravating even if you're not participating. Obviously this is different for everyone and everyone has different tolerances for certain kinds of questions. I'm happy to answer questions about repro making and repairs just about as often as I can, as long as the OP doesn't turn into a dick at some point. But people starting threads about verifying games, especially when they're making ridiculous assumptions to justify it, is annoying. Even more so since there are a couple of very good old threads here that turn up when doing any kind of research.

Yep, we're on the same page again xMaGuSx.  There's a reason why posting "let me google that for you" links has been banned in progressively more and more Subreddits--it creates a toxic environment.  I always try to make sure I hit up Google first, but there have been lots of times when I didn't know enough about something to get any useful/meaningful results when trying to search on my own and needed to just up and ask.  Having seen how the internet at large reacts to people asking questions these days, I always try to make sure I mention that I tried searching on my own first, but I still frequently get "google" as a SUPER USEFUL (/sarcasm) 1-word response.  Why don't we stop posting reasons why we're justified in being dicks to people and, y'know, start just not being dicks instead?  If you're in doubt about how we'd be taken, imagine your mother reading your response and think about whether she'd be ok with it or get pissed off and leave.
  • This is starting to remind me of the Jersey post. Maybe NA suffers from NJ misidentification.
  • darkchlyde you are not at all the type of poster I was describing. do you really get that type of response here?

I definitely agree that "let me google that for you" type responses are the single most insulting thing a person can post.

  • I honestly wouldn't be insulted by a lmgtfy post. If I'm posting a simple question, I'm generally looking for it to maybe start a discussion. I try not to start threads like that, though. But maybe a discussion within a relevant thread. Like someone said, it's more fun to interact than google.
  • This thread needs a shift in tone. What can everyone agree on? Safety. Definitely safety.

Here, no, not normally, although I've had folks "look" at me like I have a second and third head before.  And lots of instances of little to no response whatsoever.  I was using the LMGTFY as an example of toxicity in the video game community in general, specifically where people just respond "Have you tried Googling it" as a first response.  A more polite way to get that across would be to just provide a link to whatever it is they're searching for and phrase it something like, "What did you Google?  I found it by searching "xxxxxx," it's the first/second/third/whatever result."  You help someone and educate them to have better Google-fu.  I get being tired of seeing the same old questions over and over again, but lashing out at folks who ask those questions (who likely don't realize that the question has been asked 100,000 times previously) isn't the way to keep the site's self-stated reputation of being friendly and welcoming to all.  I say self-stated due to the amount of bad press that NA gets in virtually every other corner of the internet.  That bad press is mostly undeserved, but as anybody who's worked with the public can tell you, a person who has a good experience might tell 1-2 people about it, but somebody who has a bad experience will 10 or more, making bad press much more common and pervasive than it ought to be based on the actual ratio of good to bad experiences.

I call BS!  I remember a thread that went something like "Why isnt Goonies in the NA database", because a 2 second google search would have addressed this issue.  There was no intent to start conversation, but people just asking questions.  Which is funny cuz id say going onto NA and loging in with a question is more work that just looking it up.

  • They're mad bigjt_2 doesn't post here anymore.

I got called out for being stupid by 2 different people pointing out Goonies was Famicom only.  That was fun, right?  For the record, wasn't my thread.  I thought it was a homebrew, though!
  • Well I guess you should do your homework too
  • Goonies rears its head again.
