I call BS! I remember a thread that went something like "Why isnt Goonies in the NA database", because a 2 second google search would have addressed this issue. There was no intent to start conversation, but people just asking questions. Which is funny cuz id say going onto NA and loging in with a question is more work that just looking it up.
I got called out for being stupid by 2 different people pointing out Goonies was Famicom only. That was fun, right? For the record, wasn't my thread. I thought it was a homebrew, though!
I had that thread in mind when typing up an earlier response. OP started a thread without doing any research then got shitty when people made a couple dumb jokes amongst the real (and more or less polite) answers. But I don't see anything negative in there directed at you specifically.
I dont know why, maybe new members not getting enough attention? little rant: my FS threads get no attention since i dont post much on NA anymore unless they are like 20% under game value at least.. so i am a little upset at that, rant over. It seems new members come in and start interacting with the same old guys that have been posting for years, then new members go away and others come in, every few months it seems, not sure why NA gets a bad name though apart from that, most things about NA are awesome.

Because he came across a homebrew and thought it was a legit game. It was an honest mistake. Just because you wouldn't make it, doesn't mean he was an idiot.
And things don't just have to be about discussions, you should be able to ask for help and not get attacked. Maybe he googled like some of you are so fond of, and just couldn't find the results. Who knows.
I think his response was extreme considering the responses were mostly playful of course. Nobody "attacked" him in this example. But his question was still valid.
Like i said, his response was bit extreme calling people dicks, but that is hardly as bad as what we have seen from BOTH sides of the fence over the years. And he even says exactly what we have been discussing. That not everyone knows everything about everything in this hobby. It was an honest question for him, and he was hoping to get an honest answer. I thought the jokes were playful. But again, if you are not a regular here, you might not take it that way.

To those other snarky responders, you guys should brush up on your communication skills. Its not cool to be a dick"
Ask a silly question, get a silly response. I have no "sympy" for it or the poster. Same for me, if I ask a dumb question, by all means pile on. The information is out there for you to find out, and if you cant find the answer, by all means ask.
I wanted to add, I also see threads in Price Check where right before you post it tells you to do research before posting and people sometimes post stuff that could be found thru ebay past sales. Or sometimes people post things for no reason to create discussion, because they need attention. In a word, its annoying.
I'm going to share some brief thoughts for now because I could write a gigantic post about this (I may later we'll see haha):
* Pro-collector does not mean anti-gamer
* Don't judge the whole community for specific actions or comments
* I think overall this is a great place - but we can always do better and we can always improve.
There are some ridiculous haters with unfounded resentment out there - I'm going to ignore that.
In terms of legitimate comments - let's just focus on these and the ways we can improve. Acknowledging areas where we sometimes fall short is not a sign of weakness but actually a sign that we care and take pride in our community. There is nothing wrong with admitting we aren't perfect. And none of us are.
You are the most level headed person on this site. I really enjoy your posts.
I'm a big fan of sadikyo. You can tell he's a genuinely caring, tolerant person who embraces diversity in real life.
I can assure any new collectors or veterans of the hobby that NA isn't able to control or even move the market. This forum has several hundred active members and several thousand somewhat active or non-actives. The retro game hobby has 100's of thousands of collectors. So anyone suggesting that people here are responsible for price spikes should take a moment to reflect.
What are the "actual facts", and would be a reason for this "clowning"? Really... what good reasons do they have?
ps. using the term "collectard" is rude and offensive. And not because it's a reference to collectors. The term "retard" is offensive and really outdated. It shows your ignorance and negatively impacts your credibility.
Don't confuse the poor boy. All he knows how to do is rant the word 'Collectard' over and over. He spends more time on forums ranting about the 'evil collectards' than he does playing games. If you google collectard, you get heeps and heeps of this moron posting his bullshit on every single video game forum. He 'collectards' forum accounts to spew his 'actual facts' aka stupidity.
I also love that the 'proof' part of his post doesn't prove anything.
Yeah man, you're right. I've seen some of his posts from Digital Press? If that's what it's called.
Haha, why provide proof? That's just crazy talk guillavoie!
You are inside the bubble of the collectard community mindset, which makes you unironically post things like this without the awareness of the actual facts or how such statments are viewed outside NA.
Proof: there are several communities that clown on NA with many members who in fact have full sets, CIB, etc, but have been in the hobby for decades, and think the modern collectard environment is cringeworthy, as well as its affect on the overall hobby is negative.
Gentlegamer, I know you have been warned about your offensive remarks in the past. This is your second and final warning regarding such terms. Hating on people here and how they collect, whatever I guess if that's your thing. Don't derail topics and you can state your opinion. Just lay off combining "collector" or anything with offensive words. Making this public so people know what's up, because now....
PSA -- Offensive remarks like "collectard" or whatever you guys want to come up with will be grounds for strikes and eventual bans going forward. We have been too lax on this. This aligns with the name calling part of our site rules. And it's just basic respect.

If people on here were happy with collecting, why would a word like that offend them?

Because its offensive to people with disabilities? You do realize that it stems from "retard" which is an insult? And just for the record its not up for discussion.

I like dogs. I'm not ashamed of that fact. If someone called me a dogtard I'd find that just as offensive.
What's not up for discussion? What counts as an insult?
Can I put "ism" on the end of certain words?
The rule that name calling is grounds for discipline is not up for discussion. What counts as an insult is up to our discretion. Rule of thumb: just don't insult people.

Thank you for addressing this. We're better than that.
You'll have to excuse me, I've had a long day and sometimes I have a morbid sense of humor. Don't take me too seriously...
I was taught asking questions is a good thing. What's bad about acquiring knowledge?
Asking questions is fine. This is an instance where a person of authority says 'Hey don't do this' and your response is 'What if they're being a tool?' I get that some things are hard for you to understand online and I don't mean that as an insult. Don't get yourself banned questioning mods, alright? At the end of the day, they decide what and who stays or goes. Say what you want, do what you want. If they ask us to stop let's just say alright. And if it's a serious thing you don't get, just give a Pm or something. I know you said you dont like me, but I'm really trying to help you out here.
The whole issue is negativity in this thread and calling people names is negative.
I don't go out of my way to attack people, but some people do attack me and it gets discouraging at times... I'd like to know what a mod would do about someone being "unpleasant" towards them. Am I supposed to just foe people constantly?
The mods have said before they're just users like the rest of us, I have this odd hope that they're more human than police officers and lawyers.
I probably have a worse issue with rage than other people, but I try hard to not direct it towards people, just inanimate objects. Last I checked, I've been relatively stoic around here. I just don't believe in lying about how I actually feel about a subject.

I've been here 7years and for the most part people are great. I dunno what other people think about the community or why, and I don't really care. It's been great here.

Ok so I can ask what's an insult? Does "collectorism" count? That's a way of describing a situation or phenomenon, not a person.
Why are you questioning the mods? Just don't call people things as a negative connotation, whatever the word is.
I was taught asking questions is a good thing. What's bad about acquiring knowledge?
