Help my wife and I reach 5k goal to get our wheel chair van fixed

I feel like I can lean on you all for support. More than a month ago my wife and I were driving home from a normal weekend out when all the sudden we heard a metal clank noise and the the van was smoking and leaking oil. She pulled over on the side of the highway and waited for my dad to drop off my moms suv so we could get home with my newly acquired Sega CD model 2 and some games. Eventually we got it towed  home and it's been sitting in the driveway ever since. We believe a rod was thrown, but we aren't sure. This van is essential to my independence because I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy which limits the use of my legs, so I am in an electric wheelchair.

Anyway this van is modified so I can take that chair with us when we go out. As of now my wife pushes me around in a manual wheelchair, which is not ideal for either of us. The gofundme was started by a very close family friend of mine, the goal is $5,000 because we are gonna get the whole entire van looked at (new engine things like that). As of writing this we've raised $1,820 so far, I could really use everyone's helping spreading the word or doing a small $5 donation that would really help us out. Our goal is to have this taken care of by August because my wife and I have been taking a trip up to Columbus Ohio for the past few years for an anime convention. Without the van and my electric chair this trip will be alot harder on us. Thank you all for reading and I appreciate any help given.

  • Hey man, sorry you are having some bad luck. I am all about helping people with disabilities and helping out those in need. I dont know you or your situation or what you have done to try to help pay for the new van...but I hope you have at least tried to sell off some of your video games to help pay for a necessity like this. I only say this because I am going through a hard time myself...I have my health, but going through a divorce and I am very strapped for cash. So I have turned to selling a lot of things in my collection and other areas that I never thought I would part with...just to be able to afford a place to live with my son and pay my bills. I will admit I did recently buy a Majoras Mask poster, because I understand no matter what is going on, we all need a little joy. But I have been selling tons of things, including non-video games things that I didnt want to sell.

I understand we all need to have activities and things that make us happy, that is why I have kept certain items and made do with little in other areas. But when I see you are trying to get this done by Aug to go to an Anime convention...it seems like maybe things like that should be put on the back burner until you get the van fixed...and sell some of your games. Saving the gas money, hotels, etc from the convention alone would probably be a good chunk of change. It is hard to justify when you mention you came home with a new Sega CD model 2 and some games, so you are clearly buying new items for your collection. I know it wasnt you who started the gofundme, I am glad you have people in your life that are there for you and trying to help. But I would assume even they would be wondering why they are raising money for you when you are buying games and attending conventions. Like I said, I dont know you, so if I am totally misinformed, then I apologize. Just trying to think of other ways to help you get the funds you need. Maybe you are currently doing this, but if so I would add that to your post.
  • To be fair the day it happened I had already planned on buying the sega cd the day it happened and I didn't even start the gofundme a friend did. I didn't want to do one and neither did my parents. I Just forget I posted then someone can close this if they want
  • Like I said, I wish you the best, I am not trying to call you out or say to close the thread. Im just saying I wouldn't be asking for money from strangers with parts of my story including new things I bought and trips I have planned that arent necessary. If you said you really needed the van fixed to take a long trip to go see a special doctor, that is a way different story. There are a ton of members on here in bad spots with personal problems, there was just a whole thread the other day about this. You might get some blow back by asking in this fashion if you haven't exhausted all options yourself to raise the 5k hole for the van. My parents offered me money to help get me through the divorce, but I didnt take it. I couldnt take it when I have 15-20k worth of video games sitting around me everyday, which I dont really need to survive. That is all im saying, nothing more, nothing less.
  • PSA coming up to address stuff like this. Please look and read when it does.

    Closing thread for now.
