Nintendo Classic Mini - Does it have any seal stickers on the box?

Ok, I'll keep my complaints/comments to myself regarding this little device but it looks as if probably the cheapest a new unit is probably ever going to get is, with considerable searching, is $150.

Since the "history" of this unit has been so crazy, I'm actually considering hunting down an unopened copy.  But, here's the thing, I really want an unopened/unpacked one if I get one.  The only way to know that for sure is if these items were sealed with some type of official sticker/tap on the side of the box where the flaps tend to be.

So, are these things officially sealed, or is their nothing initially holding the boxes shut.

My main beef about this today is everyone now sells these with eBay titles like "WOW NES Mini with 8,127 Games! Oh, my! MODed!" ...and all of that junk.

I want a pristine, unopened, untouched NES Classic Mini.

Can this be verified?

  • I don't believe there was a sticker seal and I can check mine but it's in storage atm....
  • I held one briefly before giving it away as a Christmas present. I don't remember seeing anything holding it shut.

I'm sure a few dudes here have unopened units fresh from retailers and will enlighten us.
  • There are no stickers or seals. It's just a cardboard flap.
  • Ah, dang. Well, that makes me less interested in this thing.

This experience has been a true rollercoaster of desire.

Can confirm, this is the case.

  • No seal. opened mine and played it for a few weeks and then sold it as new/sealed. Put all the bags and twist ties back on. You'd never know the difference. Honestly, unless something is factory wrapped I would be concerned about it. Anything with those clear sticker seals can be opened without detection.
  • Well, I'm not sure if it's possible but I'd want to find one in practically perfect shape and send it off to VGA. I don't care about VGA much, but this thing was so limited and EVERYONE was cracking open these things by the end and reflashing them, the untouched ones should be rather rare. But, if you can't tell it's been unopened, there's no real point.
  • I can confirm first print, second print and the Famicom mini do not have a seal. I want to mod my Famicom mini so it's in English with all the games.

I would agree there is no point in this situation. Id actually be interested if someone filled a classic box with a similar weight of filler and sent it to VGA... Unless they literally x-rayed the box I don't see how they'd be able to verify contents. I don't know if it's this sites heavy moderation on VGA subjects but it really seems to be less popular these days.
  • I bought mine at Walmart and it had the transparent circle seals over the edge of the box where you open it I had to cut that first.

I bought mine at Wal-Mart at the midnight launch and it didn't have any.

  • It would make sense to me that some stores would add tamper-proof tape when rhey have policies where they will take back only unopened stock.

In fact, for that very reason I'm surprised Nintendo didn't tape these shut. I guess they really didn't expect this little device to be such a hot-ticket item.

Question #2: Are the OEM controllers sealed in any way? We all know the truth that those things are what are really impossible to find.
  • I believe the controllers were bagged and twist-tied. Consult an U boxing video to see for sure. A real one, not one of those "I put it back in the box for you to watch me remove" unboxing videos.
  • I found a single NES mini and a single official controller at retail a couple of Tuesday's ago around 3:00pm but literally had no cash on me. I called a friend that I knew had been looking for them since release, but by the time he called just a few minutes later somebody had already bought them.
