Baby is coming in a few months. Might be the final nail in the coffin.
I've got too much shit anyways. How could I ever play over 3k games? I can't. Ideally I'd like to downsize to each console with maybe 10 or so games for each. I'd probably sell my collection in bulk to a local store owner.
I did this before. Then I realized even if I couldn't play everything, I was still a collector at heart. Don't sell the games you love!
I've mentioned this a few times before, but one neat thing to keep in mind when you're having a kid is if they would like those games. Now that my daughter is 3 she's taking more interest and she often asks to go play Atari games with me. Then I think about when I was kid and I didn't have much of a collection. If my kids grow up to be into video games, they'll love this stuff that I've gathered over the years.
Unless we're talking space constraints because that adds a little bit more of a struggle. Luckily, we have an extra bedroom that I use for the majority of my games.
The systems I play most are different than the systems I collect for most, so collecting and gaming are pretty much two separate hobbies for me at this point.
Goes in waves for me. I have periods of time when I'm "ON THE HUNT!" and I'm trolling for items all day every day. Then I take a break for a while and don't even look at NA or ebay etc for weeks.
Thats exactly how it is for me. When I'm on it I'm searching and buying everything.. Then I'm ghost for weeks, months. I stopped keeping track of the actual money I've put into all this stuff a while back. If I have the extra money for sometihng I'll buy it. I don't have to get a deal on it, I'll pay retail, if I want it, I want it now. I think not getting caught up in the actual dollar amounts (within reason ofcourse) helps me just appreciate what I have.
I've slowed down alot and have been fixing and cleaning up games I already own. I still will snag up a loose cart from time to time to play when I get bored. Plus I just fixed my Nes copy of a nightmare on elm Street that my wife accidentally broke. So I'm pretty stoked about that at the moment!
I think for most people collecting has an ebb and flow, and focus can shift as a result of many different priorities: available budget, change in career, relationships, kids, major purchases like a home, or emergency purchases like a replacement vehicle. Likewise there are those times you just get inspired by something or someone and crank the collecting hobby up to 11. Being dedicated to any hobby can be hard work and time consuming -- and sometimes you just need to step away for awhile. I don't think there's anything wrong with needing a vacation from your hobby. Sometimes I think it can actually help promote one's interest and enjoyment in the long term.

The systems I play the most see the ones I have the least games for.
I'm not collecting much of anything right now, but I did make some splashy purchases which left me 'fatigued' recently. I figure I will buy very little until late in the year at which point I might buy another pinball machine. Decemberish I'm thinking

We were playing co op one night drunk and she was switching out games and managed to drop and crush the cartridge and bust her ass all in one swoop lol!
Yeah, I have toned way down on collecting games; I snag the occasional game if it's a good deal, and mostly that's if I come across it at work, where we sell games. Like others, I think I definitely have a collector gene, though, as I've funneled my energies into collecting Star Wars and Evil Dead stuff the last six months or so. I'll probably end up downsizing the game stuff a little, as the walls are closing in a bit, but only for things I don't have the passion for in the first place, like SNES (don't worry, keeping my favs and the SD2SNES, ha).
I can't see ever liquidating entirely, though, as I do love to shelf watch and play when I get the chance (mostly arcade titles on the 7800 or the rare modern game these days).

Sorry. I am talking about that drunk story. It sounds like something my family would do.

Oh yeah we were blasted! Lol I still don't know how in the hell she managed to crush the cartridge and not obliterate the board in it. But miraculously somehow it survived!!
The only problem I have now is trying to find a reproduction sticker for my replacement cartridge and can't find one anywhere which is a bummer. But I'm just happy to be able to play it without wasting my money on another cartridge and to top it off I found it in the wild for 5$ which was pretty cool.

I wouldn't normally do that, but it would be nice to have a nightmare on elm Street replacement sticker or even a 8 bit Freddy to put on the cartridge.
I've completely stopped buying, I haven't bought anything retro for roughly 6 months. I've been selling off games that I realized I haven't played in over 2 years... why keep them then?! I've been going through my backlog and beating old games I can't believe I haven't played through.
I have around 300 retro games across all systems and it still feels like too much. It's odd, about a year ago I hit a point where I had bought kind of everything I wanted, and my buying habits have kind of petered off since then.

The ultimate distraction.

Want to do blow off hookers? Diablo 2.
An addiction far worse than collecting games lol

I honestly restart from scratch every time I play......But I have a 96 Sorc right now that I have been playing for maybe 2 months now.
Ladder reset last week and I already have an 88 Sorc up that can run Hell Baal.

Lol Damn I missed the reset again haha. How's the east NL community? It's pretty dead on west, I usually would make 2 -3 character per season
Summer really kills any motivation for gaming. I feel guilty sitting inside when its so nice outside.
