Samsung's curved monitor

I first saw the picture with the game and thought, "eh, kind of cool."

Then I saw the picture of it with Excel and thought, "Can I justify a $1500 purchase order?"

Comments

  • Sweet, now to just convince my employer that I need those for all of the Excel work I do
  • Yeah, I could load all my terminals on that screen when I use multiple at work.
  • I want one
  • A couple of those monitors would be ideal for people designing a racing/flight/space-sim cockpit.

I'd rather spend the $1500 on an array of 4k monitors...

Would 4k need more processing power from the CPU?

Doesn't really matter with decent modern hardware.

  • I could actually really use that monitor. I spend 90% of my day using very large Excel spreadsheets. I've already converted to using 3 monitors at home. Still working on convincing them to get me a third monitor at work.
  • Yeah, seeing Excel as one long unbroken spreadsheet is this thing's main appeal.
  • Resolution's nice. Dunno how I feel about it being curved (gimmick?)

Would be cool for racing games or if someone can figure out how to configure the Ninja Warrior arcade game, that'd be cool.
  • Curved TVs were a gimmick a few years ago, until people realized they only had one decent viewing angle. Makes a little more sense for a monitor.

I don't consider it to be a gimmick for a computer monitor, but for a regular TV, yes that would be a joke.

    ***EDIT***

When most people use 2 or 3 computer monitors, they usally have them lined up in a curved fasion.

  • I've got the Dell U3415W at work:

Definitely not as nuts as the one in OP, but sorta similar. Really like it. This one has a more subtle curve, and I really can't recommend it enough for day-to-day work. Don't know how it'd fare with gaming from personal experience.

Yeah, that's how everyone here who has multiple monitors arranges them. Our scanning workstation (ten feet away from me) has two that form an slight angle. One unbroken curved screen would be even better.

    Nice.

I'd much rather have two of those than one of those ultra-ultra-wides from the OP.

Hmm, I see. TVs are slowly becoming PCs, and PCs are becoming the new TVs... the fine line between the two is starting to blur. So what makes sense for some may not make sense to others. Just depends on how you use it and how your lifestyle is I guess.

However, the point on the curving of the screen because it's like how people have their dual-screenie set up, I will have to agree with.   Much more practical for a monitor in that regard....

.... despite it still feeling a bit gimmicky. lol

For most work tasks, I'd actually rather have multiple monitors, based on how the edge-snap features work in Windows.

  • All we need now is a new fish tank screen saver, but one that's 3,840 pixels wide. lol
