Original Xbox, after MS announced Backwards compatibility
This! I wonder how good the games are gonna look. My OG Xbox running composite looks meh but my Xbox running Vport on my RCA "Xbox ready" TV looks beautiful!
I agree with Jone, genesis is gonna blow up on the "quality" games (renovations, rpgs, punnisher/contra etc) AND the fact that they are super easy to find CIB are a recipe for a strong increase.
My specialty is PS1, and there are some significant price increases for a lot of titles, but not a general swelling yet. Certain black label games have exploded in demand, scarcity, and price...weird, you'd almost think these three things were related . Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot 1, Tekken are a few I can name off the top of my head.
Plenty of the more rare titles have really been climbing recently, most notably Persona: Revelations. P5's release seems to have bumped that game from a hard to find $90 CIB to a hard to find $175 CIB. This is just a recent example, but a lot of the more rare big name games are starting to climb up. I could see PS1 continuing to climb, but don't think it will get to the craziness of NES/SNES.
I concur with my other xbox collecting brethren the OG xbox is cheap and most of those cheap games are really fun games. Come to think of it when the Xbox one X drops going to do a stream showing system link through the OG xbox vs the Xbox 360 vs the xbox one

I know what you mean relatively by saying "super easy to find CIB" in the grand scheme of CIB collecting, but getting Genesis manuals, ESPECIALLY in good condition, comes with a very large premium over CB.
PS1 and N64 have already seen pretty sharp increases in the last few years. I feel like that boom has been here for a while. You don't find deals, at all, like you used to. But, with that said, I just don't see anything rising in price like NES, SNES and Genesis. Even with Xbox backward compatibility, so many console gamers have gone all digital and probably couldn't give two shits about physical copies, not to mention, even though a lot of OG Xbox games are still quite nice to look at, current gamers are so used to their over-the-top flashy visuals, that I don't see people running out in droves to snatch up original Xbox games. Will prices rise a bit, sure, that's how everything goes. But, I don't see it being a boom, not even close.
I am not sure if there will be, I think NES/SNES/Genesis etc are just going to be the ones to collect.
I see it on here, younger/new people joining to collect the NES/SNES and I bet in the next years to come the same thing will continue to happen.
Other systems just don't have the same appeal.
I think NES has an appeal that no other console does. Its got a 687 cart fullset, and yet, SO MANY PEOPLE are trying for it. Even as the years pass, I see more people jumping on the NES bandwagon than the SNES bandwagon. Its not like the 720ish SNES games are that much harder to get. Especially not with so many NES games inching towards $500...
I don't think even the SNES or Genesis will have the same market appeal. Something about Nintendo controlling 95% of the market during the NES era makes the NES timeless, nostaligia-wise.

Oh my God yeah, even in the last year they have gone up like crazy dude.
When I got a lot of my Genny stuff I checked out prices and was like damn......When I went to go sell maybe a year or two later I was like DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN
Gamecube started two and a half years ago, PS2 started a year and a half ago and right now its Original Xbox and with youtube channels slowly starting to look for Xbox games by this time next year games you can find for $5-$10 will be $15-$25.
As Dream said, it will most likely be WiiU. There are already a lot of collectors for it, so it'd be no surprise to me if the rarer titles go up in value.
That and, the set is the shortest for a Nintendo console, so it's likely going to be sought after for that reason alone.

I had almost forgot about the Wii U. You Could have something there, I jumped on that as soon as the console was discontinued. I only need 4 more, Monster High Ghoul School, Just Dance 2016, Shantae and Steamworld Collection.
Some of the games on the system have already gone past retail used. (Hello Kitty, Croods, Turbo Mario & Sonic Olympics to name a few) Since there were only so few systems sold the quanity of games will be just as scarce. Think Virtual Boy but Mainstream. Its gonna be something interesting to watch years down the road. Im betting HotWheels and devils third will be Climbing up in price here soon.
I agree with many points made above. The true collectors will go after what they enjoyed, and as they get close to complete on current set they are seeking, will think what's next? And what's the best strategy to get the next one. Gamers/ moderate collectors, these are the not complete guys and gals. They seek the best games, top 25* like myself because I don't have room anymore!
When I started I had no kids, now have 3 awesome kids. And 2 of them are gamers to the core. They both beat multiple nes, snes games and love playing retro, but always live for new age stuff.
So what's next? It's going to be what is realistically available. Not the price. Cause goals are goals and you can be creative in acquiring the heavies, trades, layaway at stores, saving or straight up credit cards. Well that's my 2 cents, happy hunting.

The ratio of games that are cheap to that sytem don't really exist. The sports titles are expensive. Going to GameStop and finding games there = a mystery because the selection is so low because of the amount of titles produced. When they are taken off the shelves at GameStop you watch....it's already the highest at this point of any other Nintendo system. Absolutely going to go bonkers eventually. You already have numerous titles +70$ in value.

I don't care to speculate since I am deep into collecting for all of these systems, but I'll make a few observations anyway.
I agree that PSP will become expensive ... some day. Especially if someone makes something like an HD console that dumps UMDs*. The library has too many exclusive quality RPGs and SHMUPs and too many NeoGeo/Dreamcast/TurboDuo-like games to be cheap forever. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Dreamcast is well on its way to becoming like Sega CD.
PS1 is on its way up too. Really helps that it has a stupid number of RPGs, games are in fragile jewel cases and in some instances, cardboard, and it is definitely one of the strongest libraries out there right behind NES and SNES. Plenty of hidden gems and people are sponging up the good stuff every day.
N64 has already been booming but may have already reached near its ceiling. There was a 'collect the full set' fad/mentality going around for a while ... but the posts related to this around the internet have died down significantly. Good condition CIBs will continue to hold their value and go up, because cardboard. If nostalgic MDs are going to spend money, they are going to spend it on nice CIBs.
People still seem to be moving over to the Genesis ... so while it's been enjoying a rise in value, it will continue to rise more. Genesis cardboard releases in good shape will someday stop being the same price as their hardcase counterparts and skyrocket.
Wii U seems tough to find, esp. for decent prices right now ... so Dream is probably right on that front. I admit I still have a hard time caring about collecting much for the Wii U ... especially with some of the same games getting re-released/remastered for the Switch and 3DS. I'm sure a lot of folks feel the same way as I do, but assuming people change their minds about Wii U, it could easily explode someday. Despite being a Nintendo product, it feels awfully niche. That may be the flock mentality right now, which means once somebody manages to start selling Wii U titles for double/triple the prices we're seeing now, people could easily get obsessed with it -- As shallow as it is, rising value increases the desirability -- people may wish they didn't sleep on these games when they were 'only $50.00 a pop'. Does that motivate me to go buy a bunch of Wii U rite nao? Nah. I'm sticking to my credo and only picking up Wii U games I care about if I see them for cheap.
IMO DS, XBox, PSP, GBA, GB/GBC and Wii are some of the cheapest systems to collect for right now, therefore the safest bet if you're speculating (they can only go up from here). It's very possible to get every 'good' game in these libraries on a shoestring budget ... and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
*Understandably, this will be many years from now.

GB, GBA, & Vita. Excellent library of games for each system and still relatively inexpensive to collect for.
Still waiting for game boy to have its day. Large libraries of great titles been collecting myself for a long time

You can't display them all sexy on a shelf. Who wants little cartridges you can't even brag about having entire bookcases full of!

Wii U. Small amount, and rabid Nintendo fanboys. No brainer on this one.
Exactly what I'm thinking too. Prices are already kinda high for a last generation console.
