Xbox One Exclusive Games
There are currently two Xbox One exclusive (ignoring the PC) games I am interested in
Cuphead
Ori
Any other great and/or exciting upcoming games that would make the purchase of the Xbox X worth it? If the X is backwards compatible with nearly all 360 and original Xbox games, that would be pretty fabulous. Regardless, I still wouldn't spend $500 unless it had some exclusives that are "must play". I can't seem to justify a purchase on just the two aforementioned games, but I haven't been keeping tab. What else?

Was going to say the same thing.
I can say why I prefer the Xbone over the PS4 and try to convince someone with that, but your needs may be different than mine. The online experience is still light years better than Sony, and I still don't trust Sony with credit card info to buy anything from their online store (prepaid/PSN cards are a no go as I don't like having a remaining balance lingering that can only be used by a specific service).
The games I play are mainly RPG's and Rock Band. Since online is better overall with XBL, and my content already exists on Xbox, I stuck with Xbox. Rock Band users got shafted more on Playstation than Xbox users with content and Sony being difficult to pass entitlements down to the users (and Europe got shafted even moreso). Rock Band was just a failure IMO anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter
Other key points:
- Microsoft locked out the USB ports so most older peripherals and controllers will not work. There are some exceptions, some even using additional hardware, but you'd be best to lookup the compatibility
- Backward Compatibility exists on Xbox One (and I guess they just added original Xbox games to that list as well). Unsure about the BC on the PS4 (no need to use it for that as my PS3 is hooked up, same with my PS2)
- Controllers are actually good this time around. The d-pad is still a little wonky, but it's better than the 360's. PS4 controller is still the best (well, PS2/PS3, the touch pad on the PS4 feels weird IMO)
- Xbone's interface is much better than the PS4's - let's face it, Sony sucks at designing GUI's (Xbone's isn't the best, but it's much easier to use than the PS4)
Aside from that, they both play games, play videos, stream online services, etc. It's all really what you want out of a game console and the games you want to play, as well as how practical it is, especially if you're switching over or just buying it for 2 or 3 games.
However, the Xbox one's controller analogs are indeed amazing, and I'm glad they added the 3.5mm headphone support on newer controllers. Plus if the battery packs stop holding charge, you're not out $50-$60 like the PS4. All you need is another recharable battery pack which is around maybe $10-$15, maybe even less.
As far as the interface, I'll have to agree that XB1's is more... "smoother"? PS4 isn't bad IMO, but when compared to the Xbox, it's not as streamlined. The PVR-style capturing on XB1 is also a bit better (although still compressed compared to capturing from a PC)
The new XB1 X sounds pretty cool, especially hearing about some games running 60fps, which is pretty nice.
Overall, personally I'm a PS4 man myself, and the only reason why I got it was because of the games that were on it. Not just exclusives, but PS4 seems to be more in-lined with my "collector mentality" since I am able to get more physical games on the system vs. XBOX's more digital-esq platform it's got going on. (LRG FTW) I also love that they finally made it to where you can set your own BG image and external USB 3.0 HDD support.
As far as BC, there is none on the PS4, at least right now. So far, in order to play PS1,PS2 or PS3 games is though the HD remasters they release or via streaming services. So yeah, you gotta rebuy them. There is no option to just throw any old disc in and play it.
XB1 is lacking in the games department compared to PS4. Forza I think is their best exclusive. Plus the install times on XB1 are way worse than PS4.
This, if you aren't getting Forza or Gears just get a Switch instead. To me Playstation has dropped the ball on PS4 (I'll get crap for this statement), ever since they charged $40 for the Gran Turismo Demo I've disliked Sony and since the PS4 came out they have yet to impress me (not to mention the credit card hacks). At least you KNOW Microsoft is greedy...
Is that true for the upcoming X, that if you lose Internet connection you will be unable to play your games offline? If so, a 100% pass.
That's true for most current Xbox and PS games NOW...it really sucks but offline play is dying.

I don't see how that's true for Playstation? Dark Souls 3, Rime, anything I've seen in between, can all be played offline. Nor do you have to update your PS4 online, since updated are on disc.

I second this! Ori is Great! Rare Replay is cool. Didnt play much of Sunset Overdrive but i will some day. Raiden V is the last game i got and its cool but single player. The directors cut is coming to ps4 which has multiplayer which makes bone version obsolete. Other than that i haven't had many good experiences with the system. Hate the UI, bought the system to play Halo 5 campaign and couldn't even get through it.
I would wait until that new new console comes out. Then you should be able to snap up one of the first kind of Xbone used for around $100.
But as stated, there are downsides and I would stick with playing stuff on the PS4 if the game is released for both.
KI looks cool, that's the only exclusive game microsoft has that I would want to play
Im not all that into it. Was one of the few games i was really looking forward to since i was a big KI Gold fan. Compared to somethin like Mortal Kombat X or Injustice 2 it doesnt really hold up. Really enjoying Injustice 2! The level up system, Multiverse and all the suit upgrades keep me comin back. Have nearly everyone up to level 5 and a few at like 8 & 10!
Still though, don't buy it. XBOX ONE X.....XDUMBX....more like it.
Halo 5
Cuphead
Killer Instinct
If you have a gaming PC or PS4 already, its tough IMO to justify the cost of another console.
Don't buy an XBOX One. It's not worth it.
The bonus original KI arcade game is not available on PC. That pisses me off as I want to play it.
I really don't follow Microsoft that much, but I thought that the "always online" thing was abandoned a while back. Is that a thing again? If so, why would anyone even consider such a thing?
This was my understanding as well. After the backlash with that and the Kinect being required I thought they backtracked on that. This thread is the first time I'm hearing about games not working unless you're connected online.

AFAIK, you just have to make connection to the internet once a month, past that, I've never had any issues playing it offline, not connected to the internet.

The only reason you'd need to update a PS4 is to play online or to update a game that don't have all the current updates on the disc. So in other words, you can live out in the sticks and play a PS4.
XBOX Ones (Original, Slim or the new X) however, you need a "good" interenet connection to update it just to get into it to play it offline to start. It's constantly heavily reliant on those updates, and it won't allow you to access the main dash without a mandatory update first.
The Xbone is sweet though, I really have no complaints, and I genuinely think the system and controllers are the highest quality of them all. Given the fiascos with the unreliability of the X360, I think they went overboard on the Xbone and it was claimed at launch that it could run for something like 30 years non-stop reliably.
I definitely prefer the UI of the PS4, but probably since I don't play the XBone often. I was on it last night with the kiddo though, and had a really hard time navigating through the UI (so much crammed on the screen with Windows-esque slides of sorts) - the PS4 UI is really straight forward, similar to the PS3 with the up down left right navi.
For purely gaming, if not worried about 4k, I'd suggest the PS4 slim (you might even be able to get the limited $250 gold one right now). If you want a single console for the house, you might want to consider the Xbox One S/X, as I believe those are the only consoles with an actual 4K Movie player - which shockingly Sony even left off of the PS4 Pro.
Games are usually a hair cheaper on XBone as well, but I don't think picking Xbone for the exclusives will cut it. Forza is amazing, but Gran Turismo is better. Do you play online? If so, what systems do your friends have? Xbone to some extent will or is supporting cross-platform playing, while Sony is not (I believe I read that recently).
Tough choice if you're going to get one or the other, consider what system your friends play online with the most, and consider the list of exclusives. Financially, the Xbone can probably get you a better bundle out the gate, but PLEASE get one with the biggest HDD you can - 500GB is nothing on these machines - get at least 1TB or more.
