I think they are pumped up kicks if we are talking about fads, I mean one hit wonders combined with shoes works even better!

I thought that song sucked until I realized the lyrics were about a kid shooting other kids, then I liked it....not sure why, that's pretty damn messed up.

Magic Eyes are so easy. Your eyes need to GIT GUD.
  • Pogs for sure. Back in 1997 when I was at the Art Institute it was hackysacks and yoyos.
  • I was going to say the Snoopy Sno Cone Machine, but apparently it is still being made and sold.

I also remember I had a Pog Maker back in the day. You basically just put any picture or piece of paper in there, it cuts it out into a circle and sticks it onto a cardboard back.

"A scooner is a sailboat, stupidhead"
  • I'm from the 90s so...

    - Drawing those stupid "S" symbols EVERYWHERE

    - HitClips

    - Video Now

    - Color changing stuff (mood rings included but I mean the stuff you wore it was all shimmery?)

    - Making glue bookmarks/putting glue all over your hand, letting it dry and then peeling it off like skin from a bad sunburn.

    - Slap cuffs

    - Bedazzler (at least in my school it was a huge fad for the popular girls to have a shit ton of "bling" on them)

    - Hot Topic goth/emo pants with cuffs and chains on them (think Jnco but baggy vs flared)

Dog tags were popular at one time, as well as pictures that you had to stare at cross eyed for ten minutes before a blurry image would appear.

I was obsessed with those as a teenager in the 90s. I had several books but the generic 3D scenes always felt kind of lame.

Years later I even downloaded some software circa 2007 or so that let you create your own, though it was painfully outdated even then. Can you see the nekkid ladies?  Nine Ladies - Stereogram by stardust4ever

EDIT: Wow, nintendoage really destroyed the aspect ratio...
  • Yo-Yo craze of 1998...I was very caught up like every other boy I knew...amazing how something decades old became a huge craze again
  • "No Fear" being posted on walls everywhere with graffiti paint, and D.A.R.E (which is D.E.A.D now).

gimp!! Hahha oh shit I was a bracelet making machine back then
  • This one was a bit before even my time:

  • Going back to middle school era, we would all have Five Star binders and use White-Out pens to decorate. Also loved Yikes pencils.

  • Trapper Keepers.
  • How about Starter jackets?

    Mossimo shirts

    And 1

I actually owned a pair of knock off pumps without even knowing it. A friend of mine asked what they button was for on the shoe and I said I didn't know. I started pumping it and got super excited. It even had a release valve. It wasn't the name brand, but at that age (I'm guessing second grade), I didn't care. I don't think they held air very long.
  • In a few years fidget spinners are going to top every single one of these lists.

Those are just clothing styles/fads, I don't think that's the focus of the thread, or it would be near-bottomless. I just thought of 200 laughable clothing fads while I typed this sentence, nevermind just things that were popular and have now totally gone out of style.

Well, if a clothing fad was super popular/crazy and short lived, it seems to me it would fit in this thread very well.  Especially any fad that took place in my younger years since the majority of the members here are in a similar age group and probably lived through the same thing.

Actually I also developed a new appreciation for that song once I realized it was about the Columbine shooting. The song is so happy and joygul sounding while singing "All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks better run better run, outrun my gun/faster than my bullet", adding a sort of twisted element to it that I for some reason am drawn to. If I found out the song was about going to the beach in the summertime (which it sounds very suited to) it would be completely forgettable.

  • Wow, what a fun thread to read. Definitely JNCO jeans here, pogs, tech decks, trapper keepers, garbage pail kids, dial-up internet (boob pics would take a long time to load   ), and while I wasn't cool enough to get Pumps, Pumps.

    That's awesome haha
  • Mighty Max/Polly Pocket was huge for a while, my stepsiblings seemed to have every single set
  • Mighty Max was pretty cool. I had tons of the small sets and one that was the main bad guy's volcano lair. Played with that a lot.
  • Hypercolor Shirts, Monsters in my Pocket, Crazy Pink/Cyan/Purple graphic themes on EVERYTHING, and Orbits (the drinks with those floating gummy nodules).
  • being respectful.

    Listening to your parents.

those all seemed like short lived crazes considering the shit I see everyday nowadays!

There was another one in the mid-80s. I remember Duncan Yo-yos were pretty heavily advertised and more than a few kids picked them up, myself included. I think I had about a dozen at one time.

I wonder if I can still walk the dog.

I had the Nike ones (David Robinson), two different styles.

According to Retroscribe, I owned the Stadium Events of sneakers and didn't even realize it!
